CO2 Dragster idea

Recommended Posts

well, for my ITD (industrial Technology and Design) assignment, we are to create a CO2 dragster, (if you need more info on what they are, just google it or something), but for those of you who do know what they are, here is an image of the design i am planning to create, any feed back would be really handy so i know what i can fix up or add to it to make it the best in the class... and just so you know i am only in grade 10

Are you actually gonna race that thing? If its the same CO2 car i made in grade 9, then i would suggest a design that is more arodynamic, ie. put mor bumps and curves on it to make it have more eddies, which make it faster. Also make sure there are no pointed edges.

Actually, from the side view it looks fine, just make sure to kep the pointed edges to a minimum.

From what I noticed of the other classes that did this (I didn't get too :( ) is that aerodynamics didn't really make that much of a difference. Worry mostly about making it strong enough, and light. And make sure it drives straight.

I had fun doing these in like 8th grade.

It looks good, but more than anything, just make sure it goes straight. :P

We built bridges (not to scale :P) in shop class too, and mine could be stood on without breaking...I think the strongest one, a friend of mines, held about 350 pounds of pressure before snapping in the little machine. Mine was like 200-ish. All that from balsa wood and some wood glue. :P

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

We did the exact same thing, but only used popsical sticks and glue. lets just say it didnt last very long :(

Add a little nook for the back wheels so that the disrupted air from the front wheels don't mess with it's rotation.

Also, fins can help by giving it downforce, and that will keep it from flying up and off the track.

The middle doesn't look like it will hold out. One twist on the track and SNAP!

Keep the front sharp, so that the vehicle can cut it's way through the air.

i'll get a 'perspective view' drawing of it soon and post that here, and if your wondering about the middle being weak, dont be, its a peice of 4mm wire holding the 2 peices together...

when i make it i will might try to get the fronts of both peices to a point, but this is just a rough idea that i wanted feedback from...

but thanks for what you guys have given me so far, and aswell the crosses are for the axle holes (for those who dont know) and there are smoothed out wheel arches covering all the wheels which will leave about 2mm for the wheel to freespin in, and dont worry about it not going straight, 90% of the time these things dont touch the ground...and we have to have a peice of fishing line going through eyelets somewhere on it to keep it down and going straight...

i'll get to work on that perspective drawing...

I remember making those in highschool. A girl in my class had one that was as thin as yours and hers ended up snapping in the middle.

Good luck

I'd advise making the middle part juuuuust a bit wider. Plenty of people in my class had theirs snap like that. Also, make the back a bit smaller, because its a little unwieldy right now, from the looks of it.

The code in my sig should say 1032 not 0132.
