Which CPU???

Featured Replies

I was wondering what CPU to put in the computer I will be building some time next year. The Intel Quad Core, Intel Core 2 duo, Intel Core 2 Extreme, or AMD AM2.

The Intel quad core offers well...4 processors in 1 plus i beleive a 1066mhz FSB and 4mb cache and around 2.9 or 8 ghz clock speed

Intel Core 2 duo and extreme offer same FSB and cache as quad core but extreme has same clock speed and duo has 2ghz to 2.7ghz

and the AMD AM2 offers 2mb cache, 2000mhz FSB and a 2.7ghz clock speed

i just cant seem to decide which is better cache memory or FSB, would someone mind telling me which is worth more and why

oh and btw, ill be using this cmoputer most likely for gaming

and other than telling me the better of cache and FSB also point out a CPU and give me a reason

thanks :)

My suggestion is don't decide anything now for a computer your building next year. Every processor by then will be something totally different than now.

Such as AMD coming out with there "true" quad core processor, 65nm process. On Intel's side they will be releasing main stream quad cores and they will preform better and will be cheaper.

If you were buying this in a month or so I would go with a Core 2 duo or if you had the money the quad core. Core 2 duo over AMD because it's a newer processor and preforms better.

Well. That's pretty much down in the first bit.

You can't choose what now for a comp in a year.

At the moment A core 2 duo would be best (assuming you're going for a gaming computer with at least a 1,600 USD budget)

However there's no telling what the future holds and if AMD will spring back. They were afterall better beforehand and only recently Intel pwned them. I somewhat stupidly got AM2 recently, but I don't think it's all that bad (I had silly loyalty ideas. But heh...i like my loyalty). I've money for upgrades once the next gen AM2 come out :-)

kk, ill check up on processors next year when i get the cash then

-.-, now i have to concentrate on getting my job at sobeys :XD:

You can wait forever waiting for the next new chip/card. As soon as one comes out another is shortly to follow. Saying u are going to wait is a bit stupid because new stuff will always be coming out making it obsolete eventually
