a system linking computers to accounts to reduce hacking!

well, i don't know about you but i only play runescape on one of 3 computers: my laptop, desktop and my work computer. also, the runescape "hacking" or stealing of passwords has been a big problem lately. so i have an idea: why not have a small down loadable file, that when downloaded on to your computer would "link" that computer to your account? you would be able to link as many computers as you want to your account and the service would be entirely optional. you would need to enter your password, your bank pin and ALL of the recovery questions into the system to link the account with the computer and you could choose 1 of three options when setting (or resetting) the system for security:

LIGHT: allows any computer to access the account minus a "safety deposit box" of 10 or so items (more later on this)

MEDIUM: allows any computer to access the account with NO bank access

HEAVY: allows no non-linked computer to log on to the account

linking a computer would be done by a button on the left side just under the recovery questions box and would be done to prevent account stealing. this would work by assigning every account a ten digit credit card number type thing (cannot read on your own, hidden) that would be copied into the downloaded program and when the login is complete, after the system checks this program to see if the numbers match. if they do, then your on if not then your not on or your on but with reduced privileges.

note this whole thing is entirely optional!

rate hate or otherwise flame, i dont care :D :D

What if you got a new computer, change your internet provider (getting youa new I.P) thats why you have a PIN recovery questions and password to keep hackers out, if you really scared of getting hacked make good recovery questions THAT YOU WILL REMBER a good PIN thats not 1,1,1,1 and a password with numbers AND letters this way if some one did 'hack' you you would have all that, also if you next to a bank then you log take all your stuff off and put everything in your bank, so if some one hacks you they cant get your stuff all they can run around

Remember jagax doesn't have to make anything to reduce the hakers. IT all falls on to the player. IT is your responsibility to protect your account.

Also what about family's with more than one person who plays on a single computer. Then you will have to download mulitple programs for each one to link to their character.

well, first of all its not your i.p address and also, when you get a new computer and put in all the infomation and bang! your on again and also you would just add each account sepraly to the program for instance it would say:

(when you open the program)

runescape accounts linked to this computer:

snipersas

ilikefood

sniperassin

the theroy is that if you dont know the little number, you cannot be stupid enough to give it away

p.s i have never had my account stolen in any way

Eh? The whole attraction of RS (for me anyway) was that I didn't need to download anything. And I agree with randomnameless, it's up to the player to protect their account. If you're stupid enough to give out your pass and you get hacked, haha it's your fault.

My tuppence worth...

The only part is, there is no code in your computer you can't read. It's easy to get into the Hkey register of your computer and find out the number.
