is there a disadvantage to using controlled attack?

Featured Replies

I understand how the exp works but. . . . on rune scimmy...the slash bonus is high, but the stab bonus is low. Controlled attack uses the stab attack style. Does that mean that using controlled with the scimmy is not effective? Or does the hp hits the same ? Is the max the same and the average hp hit lower?

Little help please!

training controlled with a rune scim is not very effective, i'd know.

i'd say the best weapon to train controlled with is a whip, if your not p2p or dont have 70 attack, your out of luck.

why isnt it effective?? Just because the stab bonus isnt as high? So im better off training seperately?

i'd assume the +X value is how hard it hits, the exp has nothing to do with how hard it hits really.

i understand that. But it seems to me that i still hit 15 with scimmy wether im using stab or slash. Can anyone tell me for sure that the average hit is lower with stab?

Actually, the strength bonus is how hard it hits, the +stab or slash or whatever just means how often it hits.

Indeed, the +X is the attack bonus, not strength

I think that the controlled max damage would be one less than that of the aggressive, as is all the other styles. But the +bonus is the attack bonus, or increase in you're chance of hitting them.

But overall, I haven't really seen that much of a difference between the two when using them, besides the fact that some of the xp is being spread out, which i really dislike.

The scimmy has a very low attack bonus in "controlled stab", so is likely to miss more and hit fewer maximums unless the target is very weak to stab attacks.

Training each stat seperately also gives the benefit of a gain in one stat, sooner than controlled style would.

Some weapons cannot train all 3 stats individually, so then controlled is the only way to get XP in all, if you prefer that weapon.

Some basics about combat styles:

Accuracte (3/4 of xp to att, 1/4 to hp)

+3att

Agressive (3/4 of xp to str, 1/4 to hp)

+3 str

Block (3/4 of xp to def, 1/4 to hp)

+3 def

Controlled (equal xp (1/4th each) to att, str, def,hp)

+1 att, str, def

stab, slash, crush, ranged and magic have nothing to do with how much you hit, only with the chance of hitting.

each weapon also has a str bonus.

fighting controlled gives you a higher chance to hit than aggressive but a slightly lower bonus to str, so u will hit more often but less damage (although you probably won't even notice the difference).

The one BIG problem with fighting controlled is:

you train all 3 stats at the same time, so you lose the advantage of having 1 stat levelled up while training the others. Also it takes 3 times as long to get a lvl, on the other hand when u get a lvl you get lots of lvls.

People in p2p actually use a d-scimmy to train str because the abyssal whip (a better weapon!) doesn't have a str only option. training with controlled is simply too slow :P

if you really want to train controlled the best option is to use spears, spears have nice overall stats, also spears have all attackmodes so u can attack some1 with stab, slash, or crush (whatever his weakness is).

Don't use controlled with scimitars... use slash it usually gives u more chance to hit (so you also train faster).
