judgment_al
I will guve you two senarios and you tell what happens in each 1. christmas day: all preivious discontinued items have been re-released for all the people that missed out. 2.A completely new rare alltogether is released both are f2p I dont care about the fact it wont happen. Answer anyway  Merry Christmas 1. People with banks full of rares would be up in arms and would threaten to boycott runescape. Jagex would back track and make the new items untradeable like all the holiday items are these days. Even with this back track, the tradable rares would drop so much in price and the depth and interest in runescape and its economy would diminish. It would be like discovering 8 million new Da Vinci paintings hidden away in a bank vault somewhere. 2. If a new item was released it wouldn't be a "rare" because everyone in the game now would have the chance of owning one. There are new things introduced every now and then that are hard to obtain like dragon wc axes, which are highish in price but will only go down. If you mean a "one off tradable item that only a certain amount of people can obtain" then eventually the price would probably reach the same levels as phats (depending on whether you can wear it or not, because wearing a rare is a sign of wealth and experience in the game). The reason rares exist is because tradable items were released then discontinued. At the time people didn't know how much they were going to worth in the future and just collected them for novelty value, some people probably even dropped them for bank space. Then jagex discontinued tradable holiday items and the price rose. This is because more people started playing the game and wanted to own the items that other people just saw as worthless novelty items. Luke
1. christmas day: all preivious discontinued items have been re-released for all the people that missed out. Lots of people get angry and quit Runescape. 2.A completely new rare alltogether is released Everyone tries to buy as many as they can, 10k each, hoping one day they will be 100M each, which would never happen. Ts_Stormrage
First of all, I think the title is misleading... Having that said, lets analyze whats happened recently: New Treasure Trail items. What has this done? It has stopped prices of things like Saradomin trimmed armors from falling, if not pushed them back up in value, because the chances of getting one are so much slimmer now. Add to that that they have now added armor that is bigger, better, and cheaper to maintain then only the highest levels of armor (which are not uncommon enough in my opinion), and you have got yourself a new "rare". Since creatures are unlikely to go ahead and drop clues more often, and since the ammount of items you get from them is ever increasing, and since the value of these items can vary greatly, I wouldnt be surprised if the new stuff (3rd age armor, Cloaks, Stoles, Blessed Armor, and all that jazz) will stabelize at pretty high prices, especially when prople find out exactly how rare these things are...
