myself117
ok, so i have about 5mil to spend, and i wanna use it to make even more money, i've done some calculations on knives and it came up to make alot of money, but i want to know does it really? i havent worked with knives before so im not sure how the prices are heres my calculations, please let me know if something is wrong, cuz the numbers didnt seem right to me 5,000,000 divided by 100 = 50,000 ores i smelt them all using ring of forging then i smith them all 50,000 times 5 = 250,000 knives [each bar makes 5 right?] 250,000 times 35 = 8,750,000 gp Goals:Str: 86/90Hitpoints: 85/90Fletching: 96/99Fishing: 74/80Prayer: 61/70Woodcutting: 82/85Magic 80/

transcript80
You let out the cost for buying rings of forging. I have no idea on th price, but you use one per 5 full load (5*28=140 ores). So on 50K ores you use 357-odd forging rings. Add that to the costs and your profit will be lower. Unless you have 358 cut rubies and gold bars lying around and have the crafting level (and time) to make them yourself... Other data was removed when acoount got hacked... myself117
that is true, i was actually planning on just doing all the smelting at the blast furnace, just find a crowded world where people still use it, note my ore and take some cash, go in, buy my ore back, smelt it, when it comes out just take the bars to the anvils and smith them there, seeing as knives stack i'd never need to go to bank =] plus with furnace, 100% smelt rate with no rings required  Goals:Str: 86/90Hitpoints: 85/90Fletching: 96/99Fishing: 74/80Prayer: 61/70Woodcutting: 82/85Magic 80/
curmudgeony
Make sure you take into account two additional factors, the cost in unnoting your ores--plus the risk of ore thieves. I'm not sure how much noting and unnoting cost, but you have to factor it into your figures. Lets say its only 6gp per ore. Those 6's add up, for 50k of ore that is an additional 300,000 of cost eating into your profits. Also, don't forget the time cost. Smelting and smithing that amount of ore will take time. I am unsure about the blast furnace, but in a regular forge, it is about 90 seconds to 2 minutes to smelt a load of ore, not counting smithing time. Therefore, with your load of 50k just to turn raw ore into bars that is roughly 1250 hours or 52 solid 24-hour days of work. Add to that the time to get the iron ore, the selling time, and your looking at it being well into spring before you make your money back and see a profit. It seems an awful lot of work for about--after ore costs alone (not counting noting costs)--3.75 million profit.
kdb148
It's not nearly that long. In a regular furnace, you can do just about 1k an hour, making it 50-60 hours probably to smelt them all, then another 50-60 hours to smith them all. The blast furnace will be much faster if you can find people to run it with you, but slower if you have to solo. Check out this cool browser gladiator game! jessy87
you realize the time to smith the bars to knives will be and endless task? personally, id round out that 86 fletching to 99 with yew longs by selling the longs for 550-570 ea. to buy more stuff. you should make a reasonable amount of $, and by that time you should either be satisfied with your profits and sick of fletching, or dissatisfied but still in aw of a lvl 99. smithing 5k+ bars is time consuming... iron bars sell for 200 ea, and if you can smelt them with the blast furnace at a minimal cost(say 25 coins) you should end up with a reasonable amount of cash like you planned for. so im thinking, if you got 99 fletching and with the profit(lets assume 3mil) then you have 80k iron ores to smelt you would end up selling the 80k bars for 16mil check my math tho.
