Computer monitor totally shutting down?!?

Featured Replies

Ok, I recently bought Guild Wars. I downloaded it onto my computer and everything, worked fine. I created my char and everything, logged into the game. After about 1 minute of play my monitor shut down completely. I tried turning it back on and off several times and it was like it got disconnected from my computer, nothing would come up. So, I restarted the computer, monitor came up fine, logged back onto GW and after about 1 minute of gameplay, the same problem occurs. A friend suggested try changing the pixel resolution. I tried that, same problem.

I am wondering if this is account to a bad graphics card or is it the monitor itself doing this?

Any ideas or responses would be greatly apprecitated!

Does this happen with any other graphically intensive game?

Never had any other problems with the card?

What kind of card is it?

Latest drivers for said card?

Try to get another monitor and hook it up to see if it is an internal computer problem or a monitor problem. It could be forcing the monitor into a mode that it doesn't like. It may also help to check all the cables. If you could borrow a compatible video card you could find out if it is that too. Check the output on your power supply too since that could be causing it.

Do you still have sound when the screen shuts off? if so it might be the resolution. It could also be youe video card. The same thing happend to me with the game halo for the computer. Everything would load up untill i got into a game, in which case the screen would go totally black (i would still have sound though) I figured out that i had the out dated video card patch. When I upgraded it worked fine. Just make sure you have all the requirments for the game.
