Because of the new update I would say mining granite in the desert, but now you can't unless you have some one running water skins for you. The fastest way would be Power mining iron ore, just find a place with 2 rocks and no one else, mine on, then mine the other, then drop the 2 ores, be the time you droped the second one, the first rock will be ready to mine.

Mine coal untill you get close to a level, then go (power)mine iron.

 

 

 

The coal will eventually help you getting a higher smithing level also.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also I got a tip for you: don't only focus on the mining and smithing or you will get bored. Try leveling other skills to get your focus from the constant mining (like woodcutting/firemaking).

Well i would say the best and overall would be al-kharid scorp pit where the three rocks are mine three drop three heard that was the fastest also bring a chisel and cut gems then drop alot of gems come i got over a hundred from 60-70
