Poopingman
In light of the recent lifting thread, I'd figure I would ask for some assitance. I've always been very active, I'm quite tall, and thin. However, I've always had this lingering fat around my midsection that honestly, makes me embarrased to be seen without a shirt on. Its noticable in the form of slight "love handles" and some fat that just won't go away around my belly button, the best word I can describe it is "underdeveloped" looking. I've been staying as active as I've always been, always playing basketball and the like, but if anyone has some tips on how to combat this midsection-specific fat, let me know! Centuramage
Physical fitness requires more than just being active. Yes, being active is a big part of it, but to get the most out of your activity, you need to be taking a better look at what you're eating. The basic idea, as everyone knows, is to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight. However, much more detail is involved. Take a look at what you eat every day. Chances are, you can afford to cut back on some of the "empty" calories. Do you drink soda? Do you eat white bread? Do you eat chips? Eat cookies? Drink beer? Drink boxed fruit juices(IE Hi-C or Caprisun)? If so, they are probably contributing to the extra fat you carry around. I won't bore you to tears with a pages long post about this, and frankly, if you're active and healthy, you shouldn't be all that concerned. People try too hard, I feel, to model themselves after the cut and svelte figures they see in the media, but people come in all shapes and sizes and should be more comfortable with themselves. That being said, the way toward trimming down your body fat percentage, if you already are active, is to clean up your diet. I can specify further, if you'd like, but I won't post that much information here, PM me if you'd like to discuss the matter more.

Viktorkrum77
Sports work your legs and arms, not your abs. To work your abs try crunches. Do fast crunches, the faster the better workout. Crunches are honestly one of the best ab workouts, better than sit-ups even. Me doing staff.
Celluzion
You can't reduce fat in one area, you have to do cardio, and clean up your diet. Do not do abdominal exercises if you want to lose them fat, all you do is build up your abs and make you look fatter, since ab work doesn't make you lose fat, all it does is build up your muscles. Or try bulking up? ;) Known formerly as Ameoba3000. Now known as Vigoss.

Crunches are honestly one of the best ab workouts, better than sit-ups even. Crunches build ab muscle, yes, but they don't eliminate abdominal fat specifically. This gentleman is looking to remove fat, therefore the best solution for him is to consider dietary adjustment. Furthermore, I contend that sports do work your abs. In fact, your abs (and core in general) are active in most movements throughout your day. Granted, they don't provide the same targeted muscle work that crunches do, but sports aren't an ample substitute for bicep curls either.
Bubsa
You could be yeast intolerant. Not very likely, but there's a chance. I have it, and fortunately for me all that seems to happen when I eat bread etc. is that my tummy swells like I'm pregnant. ^_^ This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you. lordkrohn1626
I am a cooper institute certified physical fitness specialist, and I do consulting on a daily basis. Dont read Muscle and fiction magazines and expect to look like that after following ronnie coleman's workout for a month. Either pm me or reply here if you want, your short term/long term goal, an example of what you eat, how much and how often, and what you do for physical fitness at this point. If you want to bulk up, cut up, get fit, lose weight or whatever I need to know that also. Couple tips for everyone else, whether you are over weight or under weight a hard gainer or weight retainer...understanding how the bodies metabolic system works is the key, along with knowing when and what to eat, and how to workout. Example....someone who wants to lose weight needs to cut out everything fried, and don't eat ranch dressing, sour cream, blue cheese dressing, cheese, or mayo because they are 100% fat. one tablespoon of mayo is 100 calories, and all 100 are derived from fat. 3500 calories is a lb of fat. Fast food is generally about 55% pure fat, so stay away from them. They also need to eat 6 times a day..oh my god if I do that I will get huge...um no...when you eat, your metabolism (calorie burning rate) goes up. If you only eat one or two times a day, your metabolism slows down, and thus when you do eat, most of it gets stored because the body is in a fasting mode...it doesn't store it as muscle, it stores it as fat...fat is stored energy, only way it will go away is by being burnt up through exercise and raising your metabolism to burn it at a faster rate. Now that doesnt mean you can eat 6 huge meals, not what I am saying...let's say you exercise 3-5 times a week and want to lose the weight aggressively, then you go for 1600 calories a day, as an example: 0700 breakfast 500 calories 0930 snack 100 calories 1100 lunch 400 calories 230pm snack 100 calories 6pm dinner 400 calories 730 pm snack 100 calories if as a 20 yo male you live an active lifestyle, thus between what your body is burning on a daily basis and how much you burn through working out, lets say you use up ...oh...2100 calories a day, then by being on a 1600 calorie balanced diet, you are burning up 500 more calories a day then you are taking in, thus you are losing (500 calories times 7 days) 3500 calories a week...or one pound of fat per week, 52 lbs in a year. So when you hit your ideal weight, you adjust the calories up until you maintain your ideal weight.....understand? You also cannot spot reduce, it is impossible, you lose and gain weight throughout the body, so doing 500 situps wont make your stomach smaller, if anything it will get a bit bigger because you are building muscle tissue under that layer of fat, thus your waist size got bigger.another way to raise your metabolism is to do your cardio in the morning first thing if possible, it keeps your metabolic rate higher for the remainder of the day, and remember the first 15 mins are not burning fat, your body is using it's blood glucose (sugar level in blood) for energy, once that is gone it converts fat stores for energy, now you are losing the fat...so do at least 30-40 mins....anyway i digress, impossible to cover everything here, this was just an example, pm me or reply here, I will reply as soon as I can, the more info I have, the better fitness/nutrition guide I can set you up with. Poopingman
Wow interesting. I definitely will continue to try to eat a modest amount every day. Right now something around 1300-1500 calories daily. Whether or not I have time to exercise every day is random, however the day's daily activites have to take some calories away. :P Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King.... Tigra00
Pretty much have to exersize it off. However, I've been taking a supplement called CLA500 (Linoliec Acid) along with my other vitamins and stuff for working out (it's a "vitamin" itself, if you will, not a supplement like Creatine), and anyways, it's supposed to help your body get rid of fat in that area of the body. I have the same problem as you kinda', and I've noticed over the last few DAYS even, that some of the fat seems to have disappated. Hard to believe, I know, but I haven't changed my diet (infact I've been eating MORE since taking it) and haven't done any cardio work-outs. Kinda' interesting. I'd reccomend if you were to go look for some though, that you don't just go to GNC and buy a $10 bottle of it. I get mine from a company called "Nutrilite" and it's $40 a bottle because it's high-quality stuff. They're stuff is generally more expensive, but it's because it's all top-of-the-line. Stuff you'll find in GNC and the like is usually 12% of what it actually says it is, because they're going by guide lines set in 1989... The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past. - Me!
