Attack VS Stab/Slash/Crush

Yes, I know attack helps in how often you hit high damages, I think I need better description. And more of a comparison with the stab/slash/crush bonuses.

I read through the combat and range guide on tip-it, and there really isn't a in depth guide that explain the term "how often you hit", and the effect on stab/slash/crush/magic/ranged attack bonus. (Apparently ranged and magic attack bonus gives higher accuracy and hence hitting more often, they don't depend on attack)

As far as I know, a ranger needs to train only 1 stat to increase his max possible damage, wield better weapons, and the 'ranged attack bonus' provided by the equipment affect the accuracy of his hits. My understanding of accuracy is what most people call 'how often you hit', or how often you see the high numbers instead of 1's and 2's. So, does stab/slash/crush bonus play the same role? Does attack level stack with these bonuses?

The reason I look into this is that many people argue about the fact the pure rangers need more exp to get have the same combat level as compared to pure melee who train attack and strength, and hence the imbalance in the combat triangle. So if one melee stat substitute attack and strength, and play a rolesimilar to that of the ranged stat, all 3 skills would be able to achieve the same combat level at the same rate, and have the same max combat level.

attack is also varibled on what you can wield which comprehends the damage/accurecy it does, use a d long on a lesser than a bronze long or rubber chicken and you see the diff as weapons have diff stats, but to use those stats you need the right attack

each armor has some things it is weak to depending on what armor its wearing (dragons use dragon hide so its weak to slash) and attack makes you hit les 0's but it does not effect the chance of hitting high thats always random you cant change that (though strenght helps a bit) and for optimale chance of hitting les zero's you need to have a high attack and attack the monster with its weaknes and if its for example slash your slash bonus must be good.

for rangers the range stats is attack and strenght in one and a lil bit defence cause of requirments for rage armor and with range you can get lucky that the monster is weak to range and you hit les 0's if your higher range and you range equipment bonus is high and the enemie is weak to range, the range skil also effects your max hit with range.

the mage skil works differint in wich the mage skil affects acruacy and wich spels and wich armor you can use and wich spels you can use and the better spels mean more damage. and to hit les 0's you need high mage lvl, high mage attack bonus, and the enemie is weak to mage and once again mage lvl or bonus does not affect how often you hit high.

i hope this helpd?

It depends on the weapon you have and the armour the other person has. If they have platemail, I would reccommend using "crush" attacks as it is platemail's weakness. If they have chainmail, then use "stab" attacks as you can just stab through the little chains.

Attack stat: (skill)

Do not affect how often you hit high numbers, but how often you hit as a whole. So you wont see higher numbers more often, but you will see less zeroes.

Attack adds to stab, slash and crush attacks.

The attack skill also affects what kind of weapons you can wield. Example, you need level 60 attack to wield dragon weapons.

Strenght: (skill)

Affects stab, slash and crush attacks to hit higher amounts of damage, when you hit.

Defence: (skill)

Affects how often you manage to block an attack completly, not how often your enemy hit a high amount of damage on you compared to a lower one. Defence affects stab, crush, slash, and ranged at a 1:1 ratio. While affects magic defece at a 1/2 ratio. (the other 1/2 ratio comes from the magic skill itself)

Example: having 50 defence and 1 magic works as having 50 defence agenst all kinds of melee and ranged attacks. while only having 25 defence agenst magic attacks. Having 50 def and 50 magic will give you 50 mage defence.

This is were many people go wrong, while making a ranged pure they only train ranged, and not magic. The outcome makes the ranged pure have an insanely poor defence against magic attacks. So they think that rangers are not as good as melee and magic. The ultimate ranged pure however has an equal ranged and mage level. Making them have very high mage defence, while not having the need to raise their defence level. This makes them low combat level, as the mage level wont affect their combat level as long as it is under or equal to their current ranged level.

Fredz explained it quite well.

For you to picture the proccess better, imagine this:

There is a die you must roll in order to hit a monster. A higher attack level (+weapon bonus) provides a bonus to that die roll.

Now, if you hit, you must roll another die for the damage you hit. A higher strength level (+weapon bonus) makes the die have more faces. (E.g., with 20 strength you randomly hit any number between 1 and 5, but with 45 strength you hit between 1 and 9)
