herb farming question

If you have an Amulet of Nature, you can use it on one patch and it will monitor it and let you know if it gets diseased or when it'd fully grown.

Other than that, no unless you actually watch/check it, there is no way of knowing.

What i did when I was doing a lot of herbs, was to plant all the herb patches and go woodcutting (or whatever skill you want). And check them every 15-20 minutes.

If Jagex ever made a perfect update, there would be players complaining about nothing to complain about.

get pineapples from karamaja via the boat in ardy and some world hoping. make super compost.

i found that just super composting is the most effective long term herb farming

basically, always always use supercompost.

If its a low-level herb, just leave it alone. supercomposted herbs usually live, and if it didn't cost you much, who cares.

If its a high level herb or expensive, I'd recommend using the troll farming patch from my arm's big adventure quest. that patch is disease-free. If you don't have access to that, and you can't take a 20k loss from a ranarr seed, then you will just have to watch it.

edit: for pineapples for supercompost, you can:

1) pick at karamja

2) buy from charter ship crew members (catherby docks is good location, right near a bin)

3) buy at tree-gnome stronghold (there are 2 stores that sell them on the bank level)

4) grow your own (if you can do this you probably don't need to be told where to find them)

Use supercompost and the magic seculateurs for all your herb patches. On average, with supercompost, 10% will die. Just keep that into consideration and buy the seeds accordingly.

This way you only need to check your patches after 75 minutes and you're ready to plant some new seeds. Use those 75 minutes to make money or to get new seeds.

As everyone said, use super compost. You can make it with pineapples, watermelons, etc. I found super compost a good way to get rid of guam leaves and low lvl herbs that end up in my bank, because the super compost is worth around 1k each, while those herbs are around 500gp, so it's actually profitable to rid get of them that way

And if you use super compost for your herbs, you don't have to watch them grow for 75 mins, just go do something else. :XD:

Not taking the trollpatch into account (because herbs can't die there) , this rate is definitely higher!

Based on my farming-experience (which is greatly based on herbfarming), I would estimate 15-20% at least.

Btw, a while before the trollpatch was introduced, Jagex had increased the dying rate on herbpatches. Quoting a jagex-mod: "all to make the game more balanced". Before this change, dying rate could have been around 10%.

You are probably correct, since i really don't keep track of the death rate of my herb patches. I remembered reading somewhere that the rate was around 10%. Anyways, i still just put my faith in the supercompost and hope for the best. Returning to my patches or worse, waiting there, just wastes too much of my time.
