hekatetrivia
Detailed description in next message!! A thread of smrf3131 ( taking contruction to the next lvl) made me think about a pet-shop. No not just to buy animals but to raise them!!! Wouldn't it be sweet that you could buy little fish, chickens or basically any animal creature of rs and take care of them in your POH? The built up could be like farming but now with animals. You can create for instance a fish pond (small for shrimp, medium for trout/salmon, large for lobster/tuna) in the back yard to grow your fish. I don't think sharks would be such a good idea, so i will leave that one out. A chicken coop (e.g. small poultry house, medium poultry house and large poultry house) for getting feathers etc. The size determines how many chickens you can have. An area to raise some cows and sheep for hides and wool. Again the size determines how many. Maybe some of you have other animals in mind to make it into a full skill, because it is kind of minimal right now. Other wise it could be an add-on on farming. Let me know what you think and how to extend the idea. Oh, If I missed a thread proposing this then i am terribly sorry and will give you full credit in my next comment!!!!!!!!! CharlieBrown
Sounds like a good skill, tho needs more thought put into it Main Account - Max cape achieved 10th September 2011 Noob Account - 2300 total and climbing
hekatetrivia
The preliminary setup was kind of small but since micbar asked me to put some thought into it and thereby providing more detail here is a more worked out idea of animal care taking skill: I think this might fly because most of the things described here are already available in the game and only need minor modifications, like color or size. Also there should be a limit on the number of pets kept....for instance 1 of each indoor option (A, B and C). To gain experience you have to take care of your animals and keep them alive!! A warning system like in farming could be applied here. When you have higher lvl construction you could have your servants take care of some of the tasks. For now only description and no pics. However you will see that for the most part I tried to make use of already existing animals and things!! The things behind the animal in brackets are required to get the animal (gp or else), to house it and to maintain it. Pet shop: 2 sales persons: 1. pets (indoors) 2. cattle and fish Besides the animals all needed attributes will be either available in this shop (like food for the animals) or need to be obtained elsewhere (bucket, water, milk) 1. The pets sales person sells: A. fish (indoors) Goldfish (25gp, need fish bowl + bucket of water + fish food) cold water fish (150gp, need small fish tank + 4 buckets of water + fish food) tropical fish (lvl1) (500gp, need medium fish tank + cabinet to place it on (filter) + 8 buckets of water + fish food) tropical fish (lvl2) (1000gp, need large fish tank + cabinet to place it on (filter) + 12 buckets of water + fish food + seaweed/waterplants) fish bowl can hold 1 fish small fish tank can hold 4 fish medium fish tank can hold 8 fish large fish tank can hold 12 fish Most of the fish are already available in the game after a color change (or for instance the rainbow fish could be used as tropical) lvl1 and lvl2 tropical fish is a size difference but lvl2 should give new types of fish to buy. fish bowls, fish tank or cabinet can be bought or crafted B. birds canary (50gp, small bird house and grain and water) zebra finches (100gp, small bird house, grain, sand, water) parakeet (150gp, medium bird house, 2 grain, water, sand and 1 stick inside the bird house) parrots (500gp, medium bird house, 2 grain, water, sand, 1 stick and mirror) cockatoos (sensored?) (2500gp, large bird house, 4 grain+berries, water, sand, 3 sticks, food dish, toy) Bird houses can be bought in the pet shop or maybe added to the smithing skill since it will be iron bars. Grain, water, berries, sand are easy to get. Mirror is also already available. Food dish (for instance a smaller form of the already available bowl) Toy (draynor village for toy horses for instance or maybe even an adapted lantarn...something like that) Sticks are basically arrows/axes/pickaxes without the head Maybe here you could make a part of the skill catching the birds in rs with a net (larger form of the fishing net)...maybe as part of hunting or just for animal care itself. C. others rabbit (100gp, small cage, lettuce) ferret (250gp, small cage, sand, water+milk (mix), meat) cat (500gp, medium cage, sand, milk, fish, external-that is outside the cage- food and water bowl) dog (1500gp, large cage, blanket(silk?), rope, water, meat, external food and water bowl) Cage can be bought in the pet shop and could be added to the crafting/smithing skill. Water, sand, rope, blanket, milk, meat fish and bowls are already in the game rabbit, ferret and cat are already in the game and need a little make-over dog could be adapted from the available fox. 2. The cattle and fish salesperson: Here it will need some adaptation of the garden. Things that should become available are fish pond, meadow and poultry house A. Fish Fish can either be bought or caught. In the last case bring a bucket of water and use your catch with the bucket so the fish won't die. When the fish are adult a fish spot will appear in your pond and for every fish bought you will be able to fish 25 of the fish you put in (good for maintaining your cat?) In one type of pond you can hold 2 spieces of fish simultaneously. Maximum of 4 fish of each type can be released in the pond. This means you can fish 100 of that type when they all grow up. shrimp (10gp or caught, small fish pond, 1xfish food/fish) sardine (50gp or caught, small fish pond, 1xfish food/fish) trout (100gp or caught, medium fish pond, 1xfish food/fish) salmon (150gp or caught, medium fish pond, 1xfish food/fish) tuna (200gp or caught, large fish pond, 1xfish food/fish) lobster (250gp or caught, large fish pond, 1xfish food/fish) I don't think other fish should be necessary and it is kind of weird to have your own swordies/sharks. Fish ponds need to be bought and/or implemented in the contruction skill You need to feed the fish when the warning comes up. I could imagine a menu pops up when you click on the pond showing how much fish food is used (like a %) B. cattle chickens (50gp, grain, water, poultry house...small can hold 3, medium can hold 5 and large can hold 10 chickens) pigs (150gp for piglets, and 500gp for adult, small meadow+fence...see note, grain+water=food in a trough) calf (500gp, small meadow+fence, 1 buckets of water in a trough/cow) cow (1500gp, medium meadow+fence, 2 buckets of water in a trough/cow) dairy cow (2500gp, large meadow+fence, 2 buckets of water in a trough/cow and 3 for the dairy cow) All animals are already available in the game. As part of construction you can build a meadow/poultry house. For pigs you need a small meadow and 10 buckets of water....(use the buckets of water to make a mud pool)...create a place like pigs next to draynor...2 pigs and 4piglets can be housed here. All meadows can hold 2 calfs. A medium meadow can hold 3 cows/calfs. A large meadow can hold 1 dairy cow and 4 cows/calfs and when you create a mudpool the size of a small meadow you loose 1 cow/calf but can have 2 pigs and 4 piglets in return. However you need a second trough with water+grain. Troughs can be crafted or bought (like the ones already used throughout rs) When you kill your chicken/cow/calf/pig for meat, bones, hides, feathers...well you have 10 respawns. 3. Skill table Like I wrote before, xp is gained by creating a place for the animals to stay and maintaining them, little like the farming i guess. I am f2p so I don't really no more then what is in the skill guides. The skill table is arbitrary but sort of logical...just like in life easy animals are easy to get: --maybe if you want 2 tropical fish you need a higher lvl-- lvl1 gold fish lvl1 shrimp lvl2 canary lvl5 sardine lvl7 chickens lvl10 cold water fish 1 (tetra's?) lvl12 rabbit lvl15 zebra finches lvl17 cold water fish 2 (blackskirts?) lvl18 pigs lvl20 trout lvl22 ferret lvl25 parakeet lvl30 tropical fish (lvl1) lvl32 calf lvl35 salmon lvl40 parrots lvl42 cow lvl45 tuna lvl50 dog lvl55 lobster lvl57 diary cow lvl60 tropical fish (lvl2) lvl75 cockatoos Of course i am open to any comment, expansion and especially feasibility of the suggested skill. hekatetrivia
to make it more rewarding you should be able to breed some of the animals. This could add extra lvls. for instance: parrots and cockatoos can only be caught and not bought parrots breeding (you need to catch 2 at least): lvl47 cockatoo breeding lvl85 same could go for tropical fish now you can sell them!!!!! ShadowsSaved
This looks like a very interesting idea for a skill and it is also very nice to have a skill that has to do with animals. :) Very good idea.
Dalcyte
wow very interesting, and well thought out...Just to let u know...animal taking care of skill is a mouthful, thus the name "animal husbandry" was introduced  Here's what i think though. This would not be a new skill, but rather an add on fun thing to construction. The introduction of a possible "zoo room" or "animal room" was what i was thinking of.. Just hot hotspots for all the animals here, and an outdoor pen area for livestock. Introdcuction of some new items could come into play here i think as well :-k Click for mah Blog!- I'm not sure why you would though because i never update it Achieved 99 Thieving 3/10/07-992nd to it
ddaanniiellh
I think this is a really good idea overall, but it would need to be seperate from construction (or not needing a POH to do), because no other skill requires another skill side-by-side in order to train. It would be better, if it were all done outside the house, and that your animals would be placed in an "area" (Can't really think right now  ) just like farmining, and the animals you see there are completely different based on whoever you are and what animals you have. ~Ddaanniiellh : 1437 : 173Lowest Combat to 1,000 Total in F2P (23 Combat)Check me out on YouTube! Since I am f2p I don't have a clear view on the farming. I will read myself into that and come up with a more separate location for the skill. Including it in the POH is kind of limiting. Let me think this over....and thanks for the suggestion!!

I will try to expand on the possibilities to make it a full skill. I have the feeling it is still too limiting and I will browse through the creature database here on tip.it (thanks guys for having one!!)to see if i can come up with more animals. Also there should be some benefit included. Like i wrote in one of the previous messages. I think the breeding could a skill that will be included. The combination with hunting instead of buying will give an new source of income for fanatic hunters. However I need to think of what to do with the offspring. Maybe included some animals that you can use to make certain clothings, weapons or other nifty things you might need. So, make suggestions!! I am very busy at the moment but i am already thinking about making a more visual guide. So, how the areas look, the cages, the shopping screen etc. In the mean time: Bring on comments and suggestions to expand this idea, however keep in mind the feasibility. If you want Jagex to release a new skill it is smart to use as much of the available resources and not add too many items that have to be developed. This way it will be easy for them to implement.
