Ok so my knowledge of phsyics is limited. It's not like they teach us physics at my age. You either are older than me or you watch educational television. Chopsticks as a weapon is kinda funny, hilarious even. As Kanati said, you are thinking too much of a superhero cape. We mean "cloaks". Cloaks wrap around the body, taking shape around the back. Everything in life may not have a conveniant use, but it has a use nonetheless. A metal cloak would be a good idea, but what about an enchanted cloak? An enchanted cloak would add protection without being an encumberence.

Ya, actually mithril can be made into thread. If any of you have ever played the game known as "Dungeons and Dragons", you would know you can make mithril shirts. And yes, in the Lord of the Rings Frodo is given a mithril shirt by Bilbo. So in that light, a leather cape sewn with mithril thread is more protective than a chain cape. I still don't know how they make a metal into thread though...

Dude, metal capes are totally plausible (maybe not conveniant, but plausable). If you can make armor out of connected rings, you can definately make a cloak or cape out of connected rings. Yes, molecular structure does influence weight, so mithril's molecular structure must be very spread out, thus making it lighter. But if that is the case, wouldn't it be less protective?? By the way, mithril platebody isn't that light. It still weighs like 10 Lbs. But steel platebody weighs like 20 Lbs. I don't really care though, I don't pk or fight alot, I smith.

Very true. A rifle that took a long time to reload, weighed alot, and wasn't even handheld. That aside, it was a formidable weapon. I would totally like to use one sometime :twisted:

It probably was a movie then. A real balista fires javelins as anti-personel weapons, not as a grappling hook (although it could in theory be used as one). The balista was a Roman invention, designed to pierce through a soldier's armor and defenses, instantly impaling it's victim. A well aimed shot could probably kill a few soldiers lined up. In short, balistas were the "shotgun" of medeivel warfare. The invention of gunpowder changed that though.

Yes, I saw that show too. The quilted cloth worn under the chainmail was designed to help protect from the heavy two-handed swords (which weighed from 15-20 pounds, being swung at a high speed....ouch.) And an actual balista isn't an air canon, it is a derivative of the crossbow. It is pretty much a crossbow canon. It consists of a hige crossbow mounted on sort of "turret". These balistas fired javelins at such high speed, it could break the chainmail. The only protection after that was the quilted cloth. Sounds pretty dim if you ask me. I certainly wouldn't want to be up against a balista, no matter what type of armor I'm wearing. They were designed as anti-personel weapons, and specificly designed to pierce armor.

Yes, very true. Mithril was made famous in the 1930's with the publishing of the book "The Hobbit" by J.R.R Tolkien. Mithril is in fact a mythical metal, said to be forged by elves. What made mithril so popular was it's magical weight. It weighs very little, and if there are metal capes, a mithril one would be very protective without much encumberence.

And if a chain cape made of real life materials isn't heavy, a mithril cape would be very easy to move around in. How did you make that?? Chainmail is a major pain to make, and a chain cape is probably worse.

What about leather ones (cloaks)? Mithril capes would be lighter than other metal capes too.

People wore capes, more or less cloaks actually. They protected the back because a full set of plate was too heavy for a foot soldier. Sure for a mounted lancer they were fine. Most wore a chain tunic with latches on them. These latches were used to attach plate breast plates and arms. This caused for huge gaps in the plate and the chain was little protection in those vital areas. A cloak was worn to add protection cause it was light enough to manuver in, not as movement restricting as plate. As for getting in the way, I think you are thinking of cloth capes like you see super heroes wear. A leather cloak is quite stiff and sterdy. It doesn't fly around with a lot of movement. It forms around the body as you move. Chainmail wasn't protective enough against the crushing blow of two-handed swords. Chainmail protected from slashing, stabbing, and arrows. Anything heavier still did some serious damage. A javelin from a balista could easily impale a single foot soldier wearing chainmail. At least with a cloak you had some back protection.

Very true, medeivel wariors could barely afford the armor they wore, let alone an elegant cape. Back then, chainmail was a total pain to make. You had to smith each ring seperately, and then connect them and weld a small portion of the rings together. This made chainmail really expensive. Plate mail was more convieniant.

Wow, mods are really that strict here?? Anyway, as a nonmember, I don't have acess to thieving or agility, and I'd like to see some sort of update for f2p. I mean really, I would become a member in a second if i was allowed. On another thread, a stealth prayer was mentioned, and the idea there was better than any of the ideas I have seen on this thread. It was something like- When you activate the Stealth Prayer, your image and map dot dissapear to other players. But if their prayer is higher than yours, they see you. And if you talk out loud, the prayer is automaticly deactivated. That idea was Sligo's. He also said that the prayer wouldn't work on NPC's, so you couldn't beat quests so easily. It seems like a fair system. -Doesn't work on NPC's -Players with higher prayer can see you -If you talk they can see you -Uses 1 prayer point per two seconds.

I know, I mean, its would be pointless. The only decent thing this post has stirred up 4 me is that I think there should be a magic spell called illuminate' which counts as a light source 4 awhile. I don't care how fast you phase in and out of the Abyss, you can't survive all 666 layers of it. 666 layers of fire, anguish, and pain. Yeah, it could be abused really badly, but I don't care about that. People abuse lots of things, and I really don't care. The only time I care is when ppl macro and steal my ore. Spite??
