Even though it will help, it is most definitely never a safe alternative on its' own. You should get that fan repaired/replaced, and whatever dust is in there removed. However, having a cooling pad in the future beyond that will help your system stay cooler, possibly helping the internal fan last longer, as well as provide more airflow to prevent dust getting stuck in there as easily. :geek: ~D.
