  1. This. I don't care whether or not it's called gambling, whether it's legal or not... I just can't understand how they don't feel bad encouraging younger people to spend money to participate in a game of chance.
  2. I'll probably stay for a couple more months and see where the update takes us, before making a final decision on staying or not. All I know that this goes against most of the morals that Jagex had back in 2002...
  3. The only way I could tolerate this in a game would be if the game were completely free. I know I'm overly optimistic here, but I think it would be a nice surprise should Jagex decide to make the whole game F2P and be able to live on the profits just from the selling of squeel of fortune spins. I'm not sure whether I'd still want to play RuneScape like that however, as I'm strongly against real-world money influencing a game. It's part of what kept me at RuneScape since 2002... Greetings, Glodenox
  4. Thanks, that worked indeed. I had cancelled my membership, but hadn't removed my card as I wasn't aware it was stored elsewhere as well.
  5. Yeah, sadly enough it took them a while to realise they could e-mail the administrators by looking at who was ranked highest in the clan chat. They realised that was possible once they were ordering us to remove all images of RuneScape :| But at that point, the damage was already done and there was no way back for us. I heard about our owner's past only 2 days before the action and wanted to deal with it during the weekend, but I never got that chance... Shortly after that, RuneFest came. I was able to talk with the Head of Community Management where I was told certain things they didn't want to put in mail. When I later on confronter our owner with that, it turned out some things were wrong and Jagex later on admitted they seemed to have their facts wrong, which I can slightly understand seeing the meeting wasn't prepared at all... They said they're willing to support us in the making of a new fansite, but that's simply not how it works. So that's when we decided to just abandon Jagex and RuneScape in general. In the name of moral obligations, we were given less than a day to comply and our owner made the mistake of thinking he'd be able to buy us some extra time to get things done administration-wise when he agreed on stepping down. And the rest is history... I wish not to dwell in the past though. Cabbage happens. As I'm no longer a student now, I should be able to go no matter when or where it takes place. I've been wanting to see the US once, and I'm willing to turn it into a full week should it take place at the other side of the ocean :)
  6. And that's the point where I cancel my monthly subscription. There's no need for anyone who can access my account to buy me stuff for RuneScape on my credit card. Back to the good old "3 months subscription". As for the update as a whole: seriously? I could understand the decorative items and didn't mind them as you bought membership along with them (even though it was slightly unfair that it was impossible to get a few if you didn't live in the correct country), but this is literally selling exp as anyone with a bit of money to spare can easily use an average to calculate the amount of experience they'll be getting from this in advance. This is what you get when companies sell out... That said, I know I'll just keep playing RuneScape.
  7. RuneVillage is running smoothly technically speaking, but activity-wise we're left with about 50 active people. It's nice to know almost everybody in a community, but it's just not feasible to churn out content on a site with that amount of active visitors. The fact that Jagex forced us to remove all our content didn't quite help there either (technically only the images, but what's a guide without images?). In the end, the administration decided as a whole to abandon RuneScape, but that made me lose my whole motivation for maintaining the site. So I'm not sure what the future will bring. The website I worked on for a year or so was ready for the recycle bin as well, considering all those RuneScape-based sections were of no more use. All we have now is a news page powered by the forums. It's very likely you'll see me on RuneFest 2012. It doesn't matter where it is or when it is. After having been at the 2010 and 2011 versions, it'd be stupid not to come in 2012 :D Greetings, Glodenox
  8. Hey everybody, It's Glodenox from RuneVillage here. I intended to just modify the password of my old account here to something randomly generated (using KeePass now), but I felt like I should come and say hello to you all as well, so that's what I'm doing now :) What a ride it has been since I made my account here, sadly enough with quite a pitch downwards at the end. Nonetheless, I've personally learnt a lot, met a lot of friends, got myself a master's degree and progressed a lot in life in general. I'm glad to see at least some fansites are still holding up properly. I've quickly glanced on some others from the old days and many have suffered great losses apparently. Meeting the tip.it administration on both RuneFests was quite nice as well. I guess I should've stayed longer, but those days are so packed with stuff to do that I just have to make choices :( With RuneVillage transforming into a general gaming site, I'm sort of losing interest to occupy myself with anything non-technical, since RuneScape pretty much is the only game I still play regularly (well, apart from Minecraft perhaps). Therefore, I suspect I'll be able to come here every once in a while to discuss RS matters over here :) So you'll probably see more from me later on! Greetings, Glodenox
