  1. Sometimes AP/Honors classes count for more than a 4.0
  2. Are there two poles? Took me a bit too, thanks for the thinking :D

It's actually the exact same... I think what you're looking for is that one of them opens to show the contents after your first pick?
  4. Same. Well, I'm going to guess actually about $150. But I sure ain't getting no GTX (minimum $600 for those who don't know) and a 21" monitor. People I know are getting Nintendo Wii and such, like its nothing at all. And I don't get close to that much with all my Christmas and birthday gifts combined (my birthday's also in September). I don't want to sound whiny, but I think people overdo it with Christmas presents #-o . I hope I get either money or futureshop gift certificates. The former so I can put TOWARD getting my new PC in February, or the latter to put toward all the games coming out in that time. I'm hopefully getting my Wii the week after launch... I've been saving a bit of cash since I got my paycheck this summer :P Looks like I'll have fun with Wii sports until Christmas ;) (and only one controller >.<)
  5. And here I thought this topic was going to be about the people that took apart their PS3 :P
  6. I'm surprised at some of these gifts :P I usually don't get more than $100 worth for Christmas
  7. Oh, right.... Christmas, that's coming up soon isn't it I'll be getting my Wii in a week or two if all goes well :P, so I guess I just want.... some programming reference books?
  8. I'm going to have to agree with Mercifull and GhostRanger here, don't give them cash directly. If you're going to give them something directly, take them to mcdonalds for a cup of coffee or something :)
  9. Ok, taking a different approach here lately. I got the K&R book and I'm working my way through it (I have about 10 examples to put up tomorrow)
  10. You'll grow out of it :P When I was in middle school and I was home alone I'd leave for a bit and just stand in the road outside of the house because I was afraid to go back in because of monsters and stuff :P (I read waaaaay too many "true" ghost stories back then)
  11. Might as well post something I saw on slashdot a bit ago. GnuCash just reached 2.0 and Grisbi is another alternative (These might be the ones you've suggested are too complicated? I've never personally used them as I haven't had time to use Grisbi and GnuCash fubars my linux comp and doesn't have a windows port yet)
  12. Thank you.. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who feels that way. Though in defense of DDR, it keeps you in shape if you play on standard/heavy mode. Maybe decent shape if you play on light.. While there are more "worthwhile" things to spend it on, people should spend money on luxuries for themselves once in a while. True, but there are luxuries that actually keep you active instead of sitting around and playing a video game. And? Do we always have to be active or doing something useful? Some of us here would prefer to waste a bit of time doing something brainless while possibly getting fed a story :)

  14. That's an exceptionally good example, because in this case, that person makes all the difference in the world when the congress votes for new laws. Actually, he is the most powerful person in the senate because he's not bound by a party. Why? In matters where either the republican or democrat party strictly votes for propositions of their own party, he can jump on either side and pass the law/stop it from passing (since 50-50 is not enough to pass a law). I never thought about that. ...Hence he said, world peace. :P It's not the same thing as a single country, the world consists of almost 200 countries. If a vote goes 50-50, doesn't the (Republican atm) Vice President step in?
  15. I'm sure you'll be alive long enough for the concrete to just fade away xD
  16. im not whining. im saying i am represented by 2 parties...the democrats and republicans. i like neither party...so why should i vote for something i dont support? Correct. But what you and everyone else who is tired of two parties should do is actively support independents and third parties. Agreed, even if you don't like the third parties candidates you should vote for the parties general views (since the candidates are unlikely to get into office). This puts a little pressure on the major parties to adopt some views :P
  17. 1. Wahoo, I also got vet day off. 2. Everyone should have both for those stuborn people who don't want to. 3. Both rules, dunno why people only stick to 1. Thanks Jackie! :o And I use bitlbee :P just connect to im.bitlbee.org with an IRC client and you can use AIM/ICQ/Jabber/MSN/Yahoo and maybe some others with the IRC interface :D It's really quite interesting

Erm, I think you'll find that Bully was developed by Rockstar Vancouver (formerly Barking Dog Studios) - it is Rockstar North (formerly DMA Design) that does the GTA games. Aren't Rockstar North and Vancouver affiliates of the same group? This is like the argument that people who do useless studies in the field of botany/zoology/whateverelse should be out curing cancer instead. They don't know how and they barely have a base for it, so they should just do what they do best :P
  19. At least you voted for the lesser of two evils! The margin would have been even greater if you wouldn't have voted at all.
  20. My friend said that was a horribley addicting game dispite all the carebearing.. *Reverting back to my old self* If you're going to get an online game, at least go for something based on PvP. Carebearing if for noobs ;) *and back to normal* Who says he necessarily likes PvP?
  21. They have to shut down the elementary schools anyway. For those select few good citizens who can. . I can't even vote if I'm 18 anyway. I just think of it as another day to do homework. Anyway, Kayla, whatcha going to do for your birthday after school? She's gonna come to my house and we're going to... paint toenails and that stuff... you know :)
  22. Lifehacker Had some very useful tweaks that are pretty handy (like hiding that dratted Go button and turning off tooltips) Post your own weaks if you have any :)
  23. Our society isn't the only reality. What I posted was just our society, and this is me, in reality, trying to cover the mistake I made from the other post that was a mistake. My definition of reality goes beyond our own society. You should go into marketing/advertising.
  24. The no child left behind act is officially considered inefficient, to a point where the president acknowledges its poor execution. However, it seems like during the next presidential election in the US it will be a big focus Note that the following opinion comes from a student who takes H/AP classes One of the major problems with the US school system now is the policy on testing, mainly, the retest policy. Homeroom i hear people say they're just going to fail the test and take the easier retest for an easy 70%. They learn less as a result, and even though those students pass school, their actual grade, per se, is reflected in state tests. students dont learn crap in school unless they want to, such as in H/AP classes. everyone in my classes take them because they take the classes seriously. teaching styles are bad, too. filler worksheets and mindless projects take up too much time yet very little comes out of it. When was the last time i made a poster for a presentation? uhh... eighth grade? the teachers are bad too, but there is little anyone can do; the demand for teachers is high while the supply is incredibly low Yea, mi madre is a special ed teacher. So by No Child Left Behind, her special ed kids have to take their regular grade level test or MEAP in my school (soon to be eliminated). So, it's kind of unfair. My concentration teacher (the class I have for 2 hours, Art 3d) prepares us well if we are going into an art college. Just today Kansas City Art Institute came to talk to us. But my school offers limited electives, of which are Spanish, and if you're lucky, a concentration class for an elective, Art 2d, Art 3d, Voice/Keyboard/Theatre/Dance. But as I said, Spanish is the only language we offer, besides online which is offered only to upper class men, and is limited. My school is 6-12, but there are only 600 kids total, and it's separated between middle and high school. All in all, my gifted school, really isn't all that gifted. Oh boo hoo hoo, you've got to learn to live with what you have. I don't see why I (and the rest of the kids who want to learn) should have to limit ourselves and possible opportunities because of our government, and all over society. That's why you take college level courses at community colleges. You don't have to go through your school to do college coursework, just to get credit in your highschool for it.
