This is the second half of the guide: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ . . . .~ Pking: (pkng) . . . .~ Intro: If this is you first pure account you might not know how to do this all that well. There are a lot of things that give you the edge when pking, the main one being a well organized team. I will go over as much as I can about pking so if I miss anything would all of you intelligent people please tell me. Here is a list of different thing you should know while pking: . . . .~ Mage pking: (mpkng) . . . .The thing that most affects what you can wear, no matter what class, is your ranged skill. Range armor is normally considered to be for range and melee pures only. Wearing range armor as a mage in the wilderness can give you the edge you̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re looking for. So first I have some tips on pking as a mage then I will list the stats and a description of any armor you might be wearing: . . . .~ Mage pking tactics: . . . .1. Identify your prey: usually the weakest one you can attack weather weakness is scared, inexperienced, your triangle advantage, low on food or the kind of person who is so used to preying on others that they don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know when to run. Any weakness should be used to your advantage. If you have a team alert them who to attack because if you all pile then one goes down which means less damage to your team. Next, identify your opponent̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s team then work out weather you want to be in the wilderness waiting or out of it watching. Then you move to attacking. . . . .2. Attacking your prey: get in range so you can attack. Note that if it is a meleer you can bind first, unload some, wasting his food and giving him a scare. The meleer will then run at you and you fight using you best spell you can. If not a meleer your opponent will attack you from a range, meaning you will not have to bind. When you opponent begins to run, bind them and continue unloading you best spell. After the bind wears off you have to wait 2.5 seconds before you can cast again. If you can get more than 1 bind in it can help. . . . .~Armor list: . . . .~ Wooden Shield/ Training Shield: 0/0/0/0/0 \ +4/+5/+3/+1/+4 \ 0/0 I would only suggest this if you forgot your shield while heading to the wilderness (there is a respawn between Edgeville and Varrock) or do not have access to anti-dragonbreath shields. (Note: the training shield form the combat tutor in Lumbridge gives the exact same stats as a wooden one.) . . . .~ Anti-dragonbreath Shield: 0/0/0/0/0 \ +7/+9/+8/+2/+8 \ 0/0 The anti-dragonbreath shield is one of the more common items used by mages. The reason is that it gives no negative magic attack bonus, has almost as good stats as the iron kite and gives a magic defense bonus. As a mage you should use this over an iron kite because the iron kite gives a large negative magic attack bonus. Obtained from: the Duke of Lumbridge after starting the dragon slayer quest. You do not need to finish the quest to get the shield. You can get more shields by dropping all you have (in notes if more convenient) and talk to the duke. He will give you another and then drop that one as well. When you have enough pick them up off the floor and bank them in the Lumbridge bank upstairs. . . . .~ Wizard̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s Robe: 0/0/0/+3/0 \ 0/0/0/+3/0 \ 0/0 The wizard̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s robe is also another item commonly used by mages. It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s the best magic boosting body nonmembers can wear. In most cases this is the body armor you should wear while pking. Obtained from: this is only a drop from wizards or dark wizards. Note that the color of the robes does not change the stats. . . . .~ Wizard Hat: 0/0/0/+2/0 \ 0/0/0/+2/0 \ 0/0 Wizard hats are usually used by mages although it is not the unarguable best item you can possibly wear. Obtained from: the fine clothes shop in Varrock sells them (2gp per). You can also get them as a drop from wizards or dark wizards. Note that the color of the robes does not change the stats. . . . .~ Magic Staff: +2/-1/+10/+10/0 \ +2/+3/+1/+10/0 \ +7/0 Probably the least commonly known fact is that different magic staves give different bonuses. This can come in handy when your opponent activates protection from magic while running away. Although it is not the most important it can still make a difference. Note that stats change with almost every staff. . . . .~ Staff Of Air: 0/-1/+7/+10/0 \ +2/+3/+1/+10/0 \ +3/0 The air staff provides an unlimited supply of air runes. If you do not mind the stats difference I would suggest using this staff when pking. Obtained from: Zaffs staffs shop in Varrock (1500-1580gp per). Note that stats change with almost every staff. . . . .~ Staff Of Water: 0/-1/+7/+10/0 \ +2/+3/+1/+10/0 \ +3/0 The water staff provides an unlimited supply of water runes. Although I do not recommend using it, if you do not mind the stats and need the supply of water runes you can use this staff while pking. Obtained from: Zaffs staffs shop in Varrock (1500-1580gp per). Note that stats change with almost every staff. . . . .~ Staff Of Earth: +1/-1/+9/+10/0 \ +2/+3/+1/+10/0 \ +5/0 The earth staff provides an unlimited supply of earth runes. Although I do not recommend using it, if you do not mind the stats and need the supply of earth runes you can use this staff while pking. Obtained from: Zaffs staffs shop in Varrock (1500-1580gp per). Note that stats change with almost every staff. . . . .~ Staff Of Fire: +3/-1/+9/+10/0 \ +2/+3/+1/+10/0 \ +6/0 The fire staff provides an unlimited supply of fire runes. Although it is only very valuable when using fire spells, if you do not mind the stats and need the supply of fire runes you can use this staff while pking. Obtained from: Zaffs staffs shop in Varrock (1500-1580gp per). Note that stats change with almost every staff. . . . .~ Amulet Of Accuracy: +4/+4/+4/+4/+4 \ 0/0/0/0/0 \ 0/0 Note: until I find out a way to get more (or JAGeX responds to my query) I will not write much about this item. Obtained from: other players or Wizard Mizgog in the wizards tower upon completion of imp catcher. . . . .~ Amulet Of Magic: 0/0/0/+10/0 \ 0/0/0/0/0 \ 0/0 The amulet of magic is a useful tool when mage pking. It gives 10+ to your magic attack bonus and is relatively cheap. The one thing that is disappointing about it is that it doesn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t give any other stats besides magic attack. Obtained from: other players or made using the crafting skill and then enchanted. . . . .~ Amulet Of Defence: 0/0/0/0/0 \ +7/+7/+7/+7/+7 \ 0/0 The amulet of defence can be helpful as, unlike the magic amulet, it gives many defence bonuses. This can be helpful against any other pker and especially useful when pking on a team versus another team. It is not expensive for the most part. Obtained from: other players or made using the crafting skill and then enchanted. . . . .~ Amulet Of Power: +6/+6/+6/+6/+6 \ +6/+6/+6/+6/+6 \ +6/+1 The amulet of power is the best amulet nonmembers can get their hands on. It gives decent attack bonuses and defence bonuses even throwing in some strength and prayer with it. The only downside is that it costs 10k, which, on a pures wallet, can be expensive over multiple deaths. If you are confident in your ability to survive in the wilderness then go ahead and use one. Obtained from: other players or made using the crafting skill and then enchanted. . . . .~ Leather Gloves: 0/0/0/0/0 \ 0/+1/+2/0/0 \ 0/0 A pair of leather gloves is probably not the best thing to wear while pking but I guess they̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re better than nothing. Obtained from: fine clothes shop in Varrock (2gp), made using the crafting skill or found in other various stores. . . . .~ Leather Boots: 0/0/0/0/0 \ 0/+1/+1/0/0 \ 0/0 Leather boots are the best thing for nonmember pures to wear because, unlike the combat boots, they give no negative to your magic attack. I would get several pairs of these for pking. Obtained from: fine clothes shop in Varrock (2gp), made using the crafting skill or bought from other various stores. . . . .~ Leather Vambraces: 0/0/0/0/+4 \ +2/+2/+1/0/0 \ 0/0 Leather vambraces are, in almost every way, better than the gloves. They still give no negative magic attack bonus so I suggest you wear them while pking. Obtained from: other players, made using the crafting skill or sometimes found in a general store if someone has sold it. . . . .~ Cowl: 0/0/0/0/+1 \ +2/+3/+4/+2/+3 \ 0/0 Probably most useful because it gives no negative magic attack. Should only be used at level 1 ranged because you can use better equipment at higher levels. Good defense bonus, especially versus meleers. Obtained from: other players or made using the crafting skill. . . . .~ Leather Body: 0/0/0/-2/+2 \ +8/+9/+10/+4/+9 \ 0/0 Although I would not suggest using the leather body as the wizard̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s top gives you a 3 plus magic attack bonus the leather body only gives a negative 2 magic attack bonus and decent defence against all the combat styles. Obtained from: other players, made using the crafting skill or bought from the fine clothes shop in Varrock. . . . .~ Leather Chaps: 0/0/0/0/+4 \ +2/+2/+1/0/0 \ 0/0 Leather chaps can be good for mage pking, as they give no negative magic attack bonus. If you do not want any negative magic bonus wear these instead of a matching skirt or nothing, as it will help you defend against other meleeing pkers. The only thing I find disappointing about it is its low defense bonuses, equal to that of the leather vambraces. Obtained from: other players or made using the crafting skill. . . . .~ Coif: 0/0/0/-1/+2 \ +4/+6/+8/+4/+4 \ 0/0 In my opinion this is the item that should be worn by mages. Its defensive stats are almost that of the iron full helm with an added magic defence bonus. It only gives 1 negative magic attack boost, which makes it easier to use than the ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ6, that the iron full helm gives. Obtained from: champions̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ guild, which is, unfortunately, the only place nonmembers can buy this item from a shop. . . . .~ Studded Leather Chaps: 0/0/0/-5/+6 \ +15/+16/+17/+6/+16 \ 0/0 The only thing that stops a mage pker from regularly wearing these chaps is the negative magic attack boost. Obtained from: other players or bought at the platebody shop in Varrock. . . . .~ Green Dragonhide Vambraces: 0/0/0/-10/+8 \ +3/+2/+4/+2/0 \ 0/0 In my opinion green dragonhide vambraces are not worth the negative magic attack bonus. Obtained from: other players (you might be able to get discount prices from member crafters) or bought from the champions̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ guild shop. . . . .~ Green Dragonhide Chaps: 0/0/0/-10/+8 \ +22/+16/+24/+8/+22 \ 0/0 The one thing that is useful about these chaps is that you can wear them instead of a skirt or leather chaps with a defence amulet. The dragonhide chaps and a magic amulet gives much better melee and range defence and it gives a slightly better magic defence bonus. So if you were thinking about wearing a defence amulet but have 40 ranged use these and a magic amulet instead. Obtained from: other players (you might be able to get discount prices from member crafters) or bought in the champions guild. I would advise one of the following suits for pking (feel free to mix and match with different items. Inventories are very customizable and change for the situation you are in. the following inventories are suggestions of what to bring in certain situations (Note: these inventories are not for hybrids): ~ Inventory 1: low-level wilderness (1-5) pking with an air staff: 1. 501-502 Fire Runes 2. 30 Earth Runes 3. 30 Water Runes 4. 20 Nature Runes 5. 100 Death Runes 6. 1-2 Law Runes 7. 17 Swordfish/ Lobsters 8. 5 Meat/ Anchovy Pizzas or Chocolate Cakes (Note: if you cannot get meat/anchovy pizzas or chocolate cakes just bring the same amount of swordies/lobbies. Also, the extra fire and law rune would be for lending a teleport to a needy team member if you decided to bring them.) ~ Inventory 2: medium level wilderness (6-20) pking with an air staff: 1. 502 Fire Runes 2. 30 Earth Runes 3. 30 Water Runes 4. 20 Nature Runes 5. 100 Death Runes 6. 2 Law Runes 7. 19 Swordfish/ Lobsters 8. 3 Meat/ Anchovy Pizzas or Chocolate Cakes (Note: if you cannot get meat/anchovy pizzas or chocolate cakes just bring the same amount of swordies/lobbies. Atacking your prey: Your bow should be set on rapid and you should have mithril or above arrows. Get in range so you can attack. Note that if it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s a meleer you can bind, shoot a few arrows and then let him run at you. This will give you a slight edge as he will be lower on food. If not a meleer then fight until your oppenent starts to run. When he does use a bind and keep firing your arrows at him. If you can get more than one bind in after he starts to run it can work more effectively but remember that you have to wait 2.5 seconds after the effect of the first bind are over before you can cast again, even if you fail. . . . .~ Armor list: . . . .~ Amulet Of Accuracy: +4/+4/+4/+4/+4 \ 0/0/0/0/0 \ 0/0 Note: until I find out a way to get more (or JAGeX responds to my query) I will not write much about this item. It is good when with a team but it gives no range attack bonus, so it won̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t help you hit more. Obtained from: other players or made using the crafting skill and then enchanted. . . . .~ Amulet Of Power: +6/+6/+6/+6/+6 \ +6/+6/+6/+6/+6 \ +6/+1 The amulet of power is, unarguably, the best amulet nonmember rangers can wear. The only downside is its cost, around 10k, which can be a lot for a pure to pay for over multiple deaths. Obtained from: other players or made using the crafting skill and then enchanted. . . . .~ Leather Body: 0/0/0/-2/+2 \ +8/+9/+10/+4/+9 \ 0/0 As a ranger this is the only body you should be wearing even though its stats are fairly low. It̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s the only one you can wear at level 1 defence so you will have to stick with it. Obtained from: other players, crafted using the crafting skill or bought from the fine clothes shop in Varrock. . . . .~ Leather Gloves: 0/0/0/0/0 \ 0/+1/+2/0/0 \ 0/0 Leather gloves are better than no equipment although I would not suggest wearing them, as leather vambraces are much better. Obtained from: Obtained from: fine clothes shop in Varrock (2gp), made using the crafting skill or found in other various stores. . . . .~ Leather Boots: 0/0/0/0/0 \ 0/+1/+1/0/0 \ 0/0 Leather boots should be worn while pking as a ranger because the fighting/fancy boots give negative 1 range attack bonus and the extra defence is not worth it. Obtained from: fine clothes shop in Varrock (2gp), made using the crafting skill or bought from other various stores. . . . .~ Leather Vambraces: 0/0/0/0/+4 \ +2/+2/+1/0/0 \ 0/0 Leather vambraces are the best glove equipment you can wear until level 40 ranged. The ranged boost will come in handy so I would definitely suggest wearing these till level 40 ranged. Obtained from: other players, made using the crafting skill or sometimes found in a general store if someone has sold it. . . . .~ Cowl: 0/0/0/0/+1 \ +2/+3/+4/+2/+3 \ 0/0 A good item to use until level 20 ranged because it is the only hat besides a coif that gives a range attack bonus. Obtained from: other players or made using the crafting skill. . . . .~ Leather Chaps: 0/0/0/0/+4 \ +2/+2/+1/0/0 \ 0/0 As a ranger these will come in very handy. Even though its stats are only equal to that of the leather vambraces they are the best things to wear until level 20 ranged. Obtained from: other players or made using the crafting skill. . . . .~ Iron Chainbody: 0/0/0/-15/0 \ +10/+15/+19/-3/+12 \ 0/0 This is the only piece of iron equipment I find reasonable to use as a ranger. Its defensive stats are good although lacking in magic defence it gives no negative to your ranged attack bonus. The leather body does give a +2 but its defensive stats are lower. Obtained from: other players, made using the smithing skill, bought from the chain mail shop in Falador or the platebody shop in Varrock. . . . .~ Studded Leather Chaps: 0/0/0/-5/+6 \ +15/+16/+17/+6/+16 \ 0/0 Very useful for rangers, especially because of the large defensive stat boosts it gives. Wear as soon as you reach level 20 ranged and wear until 40 ranged. Obtained from: other players or bought in the platebody shop in Varrock. . . . .~ Green Dragonhide Vambraces: 0/0/0/-10/+8 \ +3/+2/+4/+2/0 \ 0/0 The best range boosting gloves nonmembers can wear. As soon as you reach 40 ranged I suggest wearing them while pking. Even if you bring binds your ranged boost is very important determining how often you hit. Obtained from: other players (you might be able to get discount prices from member crafters) or bought from the champions guild shop. . . . .~ Green Dragonhide Chaps: 0/0/0/-10/+8 \ +22/+16/+24/+8/+22 \ 0/0 The best equipment that ranger and melee pures can wear. When you reach level 40 ranged wear them all the time. Especially useful because of the high defensive bonuses. Obtained from: other players (you might be able to get discount prices from member crafters) or bought in the champions guild. . . . .~ Arrows: The only thing besides your level that affects what you hit is what kind of arrows you use. There are several different kinds of arrows for nonmembers although for pking I would only recommend using Mithril or Adamant. These are very expensive but using steel or below you wont get very many kills while soloing. Unlike magic the higher level you use will not affect your accuracy because it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s newly unlocked. The main thing that will determine what arrows you use is how much money you plan to spend. If you have a lot of money you should use adamant arrows. If you air run for money you can get 25 Adamant Arrow worth of money per load (if you buy them in Rimmington). With adamant arrows your max hit will increase by 1 damage (which over time can add up to a lot when pking). In my opinion it is worth the extra cost for the damage boost. I would advise one of the following suits for pking (feel free to mix and match with different items. These suits are both good and cheap. Also these suit are for the maximum possible equipment. Identify your prey: usually the weakest one you can attack weather weakness is scared, inexperienced, your triangle advantage, low on food or the kind of person who is so used to preying on others that they don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t know when to run. Any weakness should be used to your advantage. If you have a team alert them who to attack because if you all pile then one goes down which means less damage to your team. Next, identify your opponent̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s team then work out weather you want to be in the wilderness waiting or out of it watching. Then you move to attacking. . . . .2. Attacking you r prey: as a meleer this is more complex than the other styles, but only slightly. First pot up, even if potting doesn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t increase your max damage it will still change how high you hit more often. Then identify a path to your target that has no obstacles between you and him. Then make sure your on run and attack. Note that if your going up against a mage you should probably take of your platebody due to the negative magic defence and offense that you could use when casting bind. When you target begins to run bind and switch to your secondary weapon which should be a rune two handed or battle-axe if you can use and afford them. Then switch to aggressive attack if you were not already on it and try for the K.O. (note that you may only have one shot at this after binding, maybe two if your fast). If you do not immediately K.O. switch back to your normal weapon and keep attacking. The reason you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t stay on your strength-boosting weapon is because if you don̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t kill them in 1 hit they will be able to eat faster than you can deal damage alone. Only stay on your K.O. weapon if you have a team. If you did not kill them bind again after the 2.5 second resistant period and switch to your strength boosting weapon again. (Tip: when first running out to attack you can activate you prayer, which will give you a slight more chance of not getting bound/hit. Even though its only 1 prayer point it lasts longer than you might think) . . . .~ Armour list: . . . .~ Iron Platebody: 0/0/0/̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ30/̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ10 \ +21/+20/+12/̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ãâ6/+20 \ 0/0 For melee pures it is very useful. Its defensive stats are only lacking in magic defence, which will matter less if your magic level is high. Overall I would suggest wearing it while pking. But, its offensive stats are far better for using range and magic. The only time I would wear this over an iron platebody is if you̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢re a hybrid pure planning on using range and magic. The only time is would be useful to wear would be if you knew you were going to be fighting mages. The only downsides are the low magic defense and magic offensive restrictions. Obtained from: other players, made using the smithing skill or bought from the shield shop in Falador. . . . .~ Anti-dragonbreath Shield: 0/0/0/0/0 \ +7/+9/+8/+2/+8 \ 0/0 In my opinion the shield that should be worn at all times when pking. Its magic defense is useful and it only has one less in each stat than the iron kite shield. Having no offensive restrictions makes this shield the best choice when bringing bind runes. Obtained from: the Duke of Lumbridge after starting the dragon slayer quest. You do not need to finish the quest to get the shield. You can get more shields by dropping all you have (in notes if more convenient) and talk to the duke. He will give you another and then drop that one as well. When you have enough pick them up off the floor and bank them in the Lumbridge bank upstairs. . . . .~ Amulet Of Accuracy: +4/+4/+4/+4/+4 \ 0/0/0/0/0 \ 0/0 Note: until I find out a way to get more (or JAGeX responds to my query) I will not write much about this item. When you opponent begins to run, bind them and continue unloading you best spell. After the bind wears off you have to wait 2.5 seconds before you can cast again.
