Hmm. This is more a q&a now. Should update this... Idk what it means, but alpha channels makes none transparent bits to your foreground colour. Alpha to selection is pwn though. Soa told me all about this.

That certainly isnt bad for a first. You need to blend, feather your lasso tool, select around graador and press ctrl x

Have you used PhotoShop? TBH, you're not experienced enough with either programs to make a fair, non-biased decision. (And I don't think I am either. Oh and no offence intended, it's just what I think.) I prefer GIMP because I used it first. I use Photoshop at school. I'm not too pro either. But thats just my two cents on his biased thing.
