  1. It is immature to put words in other people mouths, and yes if the facts are being swept away the you do have no common sense. "Jagex aren't really involved ", you said ...(rather badly I might add). Well in that case. you are saying Jagex sold out...purely for money and with no regard to whom and for what purpose they would sell their license? Well yes that is also partly our point. They sold out even knowing the manual was being made for children under 12. But, for your information the license sale is an 'agreement' which carries stipulations and will be signed by both parties. Should there be no stipulations then then of course there is carte blanch use...but let's consider that there was no stipulation. That means that it could now become a porno manual on how to meet people in Runescape? Any repercussions for doing that? Doubtful, as the protective clauses for the seller were not there. Sooooooooo you are saying they have not only sold out, they have done something really stupid that can hinder their reputation and game? You presume Jagex doesn't have an iota of sense to make sure they were involved? Ok lets get real...lets take a large corporation like ...Disney. They can shut down any operation that does not buy the license to use Disney copyright. They can have you remove a picture from your wall in bedroom if they wished (and they have had pictures and murals removed for daycares in my town) Now when you buy a license, can you do anything you wish with it? Absolutely not. The Disney agreement has hundreds of clauses so that its name will not be tarnished. That is how Corporations do sensible business, or rather how sensible Corporations do business. And what was that remark about f2p? So it is ok that they market to 8 year olds as that has nothing to do with members? Think again....the market was intentional to keep the kiddies coming to ftp and eventually ptp.
  2. Well, seeing as how this thread has been bumped, I suppose I'd better add in my $.02. If you got this information from Tracy West herself back in March (This thread was created on March 27) then why did you wait over two months after the fact to post it? :-k You know i quit playing sly ...because of players who aren't players...as you well know. I posted it now because my gmail advised someone had replied to this thread. And why are you posting here to add your 2 cents (one cent in your case ) other then to inflame rather then to make points...oh yes, you have a following here who think you have a point and are intelligent and don't actually troll any forum you visit!! Seems I wasted my time and shouldn't have bothered bring facts to the discussion and especially sorry to have drawn you from the fox hole.
  3. Highlander, I do not wish to argue with you for reasons stated above. By all means practice your English, but not at other people's expense. Now back to the topic, you think 'the book' should not be used in this discussion. Making blanket statements which do nothing to refute the proof I showed you is immature. I brought the proof and you have cannot discredit it, so you dismiss it as irrelevant. Tell me what logic and reason you used to come to your conclusion...and I will take back the statement that you are delusional in your backing of Jagex unconditionally. (BTW changing the subject to distract readers is also a sign you wish to delude others as well as yourself...and I wasn't insulting your English I was making observations of your logic and reasoning. )
  4. Ummm so you are either an employee of Jagex (they don't spell well or have good grammar either), 9 years old and unable to grasp the concept or unwilling to see the facts and as I said so devoted to the game you sacrifice self respect rather then make an argument using facts and logic. Discard the book because....you said so? Erm, they put this in debate club because no one has the gumption to discuss the faults of the game or Jagex, but as it is in it in debate club now it should also mean discussion using logic and reason. You have used neither. Not responsible for the content of the book? They gave the license because Scholastic offered them a hell of a lot of money to give them the rights to the guide and thus will remain the only guide. Scholastic is a children's publisher and Tracey West is a children's author. If you are saying Jagex was totally unaware of that and to whom it would be distributed ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ. you are delusional. The content of the book is solely about Runescape, and Andrew has already stated he was the collaborator in content. But you go ahead and try to keep justifying for your own benefit that Jagex would have nothing to do with "the book". That has nothing to do with this discussion. .
  5. This has been bumped and therefore it is time that the facts speak for themselves. Jagex sold the licence for the Runescape Guide to Scholastic...which is a children's book publisher, who then hired Tracey West, a known childrens author. I got this information in March by merely requesting it of the author herself. Imagine that...getting the 'facts' . Please don't barrage with the usual 'protect Jagex at all costs, including my self respect' replies, that some sly people make. Jagex has a legal team from day one and knew full well what was going to be in the guide and to whom it would be marketed. This is the first and only 'official guide' since Runescapes inception, and it was to make money, knowing full well that Scholastic markets with book fairs and flyers sent out monthly to elementary schools throughout Canada and the United States. It also markets online to the world and the suggested target for the book online is 9 to 12. (it is now 8 and up in the Scholastic flyer) The letter from me and the reply follows. Dear Tracey West, Many parents have been discussing your book 'The Official Runescape guide to the Free World' as it is now called. There are some questions we would like to have answered, please. As an independent author, were you commissioned by Jagex to write the book? If not, then by whom? When you wrote the book, did you know what your target audience would be? If not, what would you consider to be your target audience? When you wrote the book, did you know what the target audience was for the game of Runescape? Do you know what the target audience is now? Are you aware that your book is being marketed by scholastic to Elementary school children, ages 8+, but distributed to grades 1 to 6? Thank you, (my name withheld) Dear (my name withheld) Scholastic purchased a license from Jagex to create the Runescape guide. Scholastic hired me to write the guide. I have no input regarding how or to whom Scholastic markets the book. Hope this answers your questions. Tracey West
  6. On strawberries: I am no longer a player, but I also loved strawberries...as did at least 10 players on my list alone! Baskets are 5 or 6 ea for 25 to 30 heal. You can fill up for nothing and drop them if you don't need and get good drops. Half my inventory at cave horrors was strawberries and a few shark. Friends who liked sitting at abyssals loved my berries too, and many had me help them become farmers to save them $$ as they levelled slayer. When you have aggressive, hard hitting monsters wear guthans, but to do low level assignments surely you would opt for a cheap alternative to fixing your armour more often? On changing farming: Seeds are one of the most frequent drops and readily available items through a plethora of avenues. The ogres and cave horrors drop the most watermelon. Get thieving gloves and thieve the master farmers. Mid level NPCS like farmers are where the gloves work best. Farming has seen quite a few additions including an herb plot and a tree space. Compare that to FM which is boring and never changing. Whoever said farming isn't complex, ask any farmer how they do it and most will tell you a different method. Planning and being wise is necessary or you waste time and effort. Each player also styles the farming around their choice of $$ spent and made. I know some 90 +farmers who never bought a tree seed. Qeltar is correct in saying it is too daunting for the average player. When players ask me how to farm I tell them a few hints then direct them to use the manual as a guide, and most say...what manual...when I tell them that they can access it beside the map...many are astounded that was even there...including high level players) Players want it easy...PC style, so unless someone shows them how easy it can be most won't try. I showed many , many players and friends how to get to level 4o farm fast and they would never have started had I not sparked their interest. Adding livestock would be a good idea and having a barn in the poh was a fabulous idea. There is a lot of wasted 'land' there! Farming is useful in so many ways and integrates with nearly every skill, but until players get high enough level to appreciate that, Jagex really should look at ways to heighten interest for this and any other less used skill. Hint: for anyone wanting more xp at lower levels (although I planted every plot as long as i had seeds) make compost each visit to the allotment. You can use regular compost and super compost as well on each plot for a little added xp. Always use at least super compost at the very least. Planting 2 levels below what you are able lessens the chance of a crop dying. Lunar magic is the farmer's choice for the teleports , the super compost spell and to cook the watermelon in summer pies=)
  7. stratotanker said What if youhad several characters all pure wcers? 400+...oh yes i see your point (sarcasm) If said person has 3 wc skillers then too bad...why is that. Because they bot...if there is any reason someone is a pure wc skillers in 3 separate characters? umm nope...but what does that have to do with me finding 400 characters all wc pures...other then you think some might be banned in error. If Jagex thinks as you do then I see the problem. One of those 400 might actually be one real fcfc1000 to fcfc 9999and so the other 400+ (i found hundreds more today by the way so lets make it 600+ so far for one account holder) bots can stay? And if a hacker takes my account and makes a wc skiller the other accounts wouldn't be banned because they would not only be wc skillers...people do not normally make pure wc skillers except to bot and if they do they want a pure real player, they only need one. The real problem with botting is the complacency ...both on the part of Jagex and the players. You condone it and it becomes rampant.
  8. The yearly ban is an appeasement at best. If Jagex were serious they would be reporting the numbers on a month by month basis and acting on all reports...not just member worlds. The author sounds rather giddy about this, as though the problem is being resolved. Best give some head shakes and breathe in a little more oxygen before you pat Jagex on the back...unless of course you are trying to dislodge the truth. I am repeating my rant from the autoer sticky because it seems this topic isn't getting the attention it deserves...or rather, placed on the back burner for another year. Jagex is cutting down on the member worlds botting to appease the paying members, but in free they are literally being made in droves. I quit in February but was chatting anyway for an hour so a friend said lets woodcut. At the the yews we would never get a log, so we went to Draynor. There were no obvious autos there...but passing by were the yew autoers and newly made bots. This is not a player name...I repeat this is a bot name not a player name...this is a bot name so don't report here please. I saw fcfc and the numbers after were 4 digit. digits: 1000 to 1050, 0600 to 0900 almost any random number, then 0920+ What does this tell me...Well being I reported nearly 20 fcfc named bots in so short a time means Jagex has poor detection systems (surprise, surprise); it means that any mod could have detected this and that means no mods have been around for days for that many to be made or rather to still be in operation ( j mods should also be doing it...j mods have low level accounts and some paid staff should be working on this) it means that if I could detect a bot army visually, Jagex has the data base and can and should detect by repeat names and repeat skill pures of any name should automatically be banned as bots. The 400 or so I found by checking hiscores in that hour while i was woodcutting is probably just a spit in the bucket of the actual number this guy has just under fcfc. It also means Jagex is woofing you into thinking they are attacking the bot problem. They have done a cursory sweep in member worlds and I cannot even report this as a non-member...so speaking of spit in a bucket...the 'crack-down' announcement was to appease as the detection system in place is is not effective.
  9. I alsoput this in the rants sticky, but being both these are old posts, I hope people will read. Jagex may have made an attempt, but more has to be done. Jagex is cutting down on the member worlds botting to appease the paying members, but in free they are literally being made in droves. 11. You are not quoting rule two. Rule 2 is item scamming...period. Examples of item scamming are listed below that in the knowledge base, and that is where you got the quote from. Other lures were always against rule 2, item scamming. Also see my post above yours for a jmod reply which confirms this
  12. It is the lies, the deception and trickery to get someone killed. Ask yourself...did they bring me here to be killed ? Did they lie, bait or downplay the dangers of the area for them to come with me? If yes, you could always report under rule 2. Accepted3 Forum Mod 30-Mar-2007 16:59:15 non-wildy luring is also against the rules and is reportable
  13. Firstly just because Jagex says something in the rules it does not automatically make them morally right. Jagex has done many stupid things over the years. Jagex constantly attempts to please the masses and in doing so have severely changed and damaged the game which many players enjoy. Also there is no misquotes, you are just claiming that because you are incapable of defending your argument. Also stop claiming that I have lured players, I have never done it. So stop making stuff up to try and personally attack my integrity without any evidence (or truth) to back it up.
  14. That's a myth. ~q Yep, just like the rest of jagex's rules are 'just a myth'. Scamming? Illegal?! Just a myth. [/sarcasm] And I'd like to know where he got that fact about there being children the age of 5 online? The internet is not a safe place. Most people are not nice. Most 13 yr olds should be able to understand this, unless they are immoral, which I doubt. Like ugafan said, RS would be very boring if jagex listened to ths person. Runescape Terms and Conditions - http://www.runescape.com/terms/terms.ws A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT PRETEENS AND USERS UNDER 18 If you are under 13 years old, you must not create an account. We don't knowingly permit anyone under 13 to use this website. Nor do we knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from preteens. Internet safety experts have advised that preteens do not fully appreciate the risk of providing too much personal information online or communicating with strangers they encounter online. And the game difficulty level is for teenagers and older. While we appreciate that many preteens would want to use our websites, we urge parents to instruct their children not to lie about their age so as to be able to use our websites before they are old enough. Instead, we recommend that parents set up an account and play together with their preteens who are otherwise too young to play the Game. Many parents have reported that playing the Game as a family is fun and rewarding. Then when your children are 13 they will be ready for their own account. The paragraphs above were required by law. That was a US Privacy Act introduced in 2000 and Jagex complied early in 2006 (look up COPPA) rather then be fined, or shut down. The change to terms and conditions (which applies to those who sign up today) to include the above had nothing to do with Jagex not wishing children to play. ANYONE was allowed to play before, and anyone who played who was below 13 is still allowed to play after the change. Anyone who signs up since this change is allowed to play should the parent agree. (or the child lies....*gasp* no one here lies about their age, do they?) I have 2 adult friends whose children were 5 and 4, and still have accounts. Is that proof enough.
  15. quote="Militaris"]paulyts50 players like you seem incapable of separating reality from a game. You are actually posting that the day after the rule was clarified? Using lies and trickery and baiting people into the wild is luring. Luring someone into the wild is illegal. Get over it Zamorack boy, or risk being banned. BTW Jagex has always said it was not in the spirit of the game. Nice misquote to suit your non logic.. Once pkers are in the wilderness and they were there to Pk you can kill each other forever for all anyone cares. DonÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t try to compare yourself to a pker. I donÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t like pking, but most are at least honourable enough to fight, rather then take advantage of the weak, gullible and trusting. I suggest you read the forum sticky in recent updates. Pkers think you are dishonourableÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæwell except for the few fools who keep arguing Jagex took away their ÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅlivelihoodÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
  16. Sorry I didn't reply earlier...I was one of those honest people who were busy calling and emailing the press, writing a blog, replying to any game reviews, replying to any articles where luring in runescape might be mentioned, etc....In other words working hard to ensure Jagex finally found their conscience on this issue. Some of this was from the first page as rose copied it from another thread. paulyts50 wrote: You are what I always called a non-player. You cannot play the game the way it was meant to be, so you lie, cheat and steal. Lakitsym_Rose wrote: paulyts50 replies now: Lurers are scamming scum and you are proud of your so called "skills"? You cheat people out of their stuff, and you are lying and deceiving You promised a drop party but made sure they go into the inn, because it will bring up the sign, then someone drops items in level one and they cannot tell it is the wildy because the sign no longer pops up. Therefore you have deceived for the purpose of taking another player's hard earned items. Lure=fun for you? I pity all of you who say that. paulyts50 wrote: You are not smart, you are just a lying, cheating brat in a party hat. If you truly were smart you would realize that. Interesting logic. You asked...here are my scores. Total 1,976 121,877,103 rs name pauly50, status...quit and gave away all my items. Reason: the luring sticky was the last straw for me. Lakitsym_Rose wrote: paulyts50 replies now: Wow, that was exactly the problem we were trying to convey to Jagex. You get a child who does not yet understand right from wrong (btw minors in real are under 16 or 17 in some states and Canada, 18 in Europe for the most part and that statement gets you jail time but not hard time) and feed them incorrect information (the sticky contravening rule 2 in this instance) and you get children who make their own rules and parrot an authority figure (in this case Jagex and their poor judgement). When you lie and you deceive to get their items =you cheat, you scam. Lakitsym_Rose wrote: paulyts50 replies now: I am a female, and a mother. I happen to be quite intelligent. 17. Adds a dynamic to your game, and grief to other players. The people who are behind the eyes are real! Yes and your luring is evil so it is ok because you think it should be ok because you follow Zamorack. What a crock You like stealing from players and say that is fun, but you wouldn't steal from people in real life. Luring is fun for you, which is why I quit the game. I am so tired of a community of self serving brats who have no inclination how to play a game, and think it is "ok" to lie, cheat and steal. You and other scammers who are so twisted and evil, made the game no fun at all anymore. Oh please? Go play city of villians, where that is part of the game play. Or better yet make a real pker who fights honourably, within the confines of the wild. Luring is baiting and deceiving other players, abusing bugs, steering players close to the wild after the sign popped up previously, taking advantage of the weak, gullible and young or new players. You make the choice for them, and yell noob, idiot , fool as they die and you steal their stuff. They may be naive to have trusted that you actually were going to trade, or take them where you promised you would take them, but you, the lying lurers are the ones to blame. Just one last point. A lurer is still a lying, greedy brat in a party hat. You were never a player if this is all you played for.
  18. The only grey patch was the few brain cells Andrew seems to have found before his game self destructed. Luring was always against the rules, but had never been addressed. Putting the sticky in the PK forum telling the pkers they washed their hands of it was a slap to the community. There is no customer service. Surely you are not saying Jagex has anything akin to customer service other then in name only? It was fully the only decision. I imagine the media attention, online articles on the subject, game reviews, calls from reporters, letters to scholastic, letters to libraries and schools and blogs on the subject had the lawyers giving them pokes in the rib. Admitting a mistake is important yes, and they deserve credit for that. However, giving them respect is not due. Jagex locked every thread and refused to allow decent discussion and it took 6 weeks to rescind something they admitted 4 weeks ago was a mistake. Give Jagex respect when they stop fluffing up the sheep and start getting rid of macroers, ban scammers and lurers and make less updates with more quality and heck, maybe even use some of the brilliant suggestions on how to improve the game. It should not take the wrath of honest players and parents making external pressure to have Jagex do the right thing. Being you are a forum mod you know a few mods were deeply disturbed by original sticky if the PK forum. If you feel so strongly that this is the right decision, I am sure you were one of those few who protested vehemently, right? The times article was well written, BTW.
  19. sigh? That was always there. The only thing that was changed in the knowledge base definition was the addition of a 4th example of an item scam.....luring. Luring was always a scam by the definition...Jagex just had to be reminded again and again and again that they could not condone luring and have the rule stand defined as such.
  20. It was not your prediction that made the change. Thank your so much to Qeltar and to the caring, honest community who helped Jagex see they were in the wrong to allow luring. I know this is off topic, but I am so happy!
  21. Hmmm that certainly is not my blog, although yes, I also have a blog about Runescape. The rule change that I mentioned in my reply to Barbara (the blogger) was the rule change to rule 2, allowing luring to be legal. It had nothing to do with the age change to 13+. That was a US Privacy Act introduced in 2000 and Jagex complied early in 2006 (look up COPPA) rather then be fined, or shut down. I happen to find Qeltar to be a very polite person, who has been answering all of the questions, including yours. Your posts are more like taunts which actually have no meat or substance. You say I seem politer, but actually ummmm...you seem to be practicing for the debate team, rather then making good points.
  22. I was about to flame you back, but I bite my tongue....I would rather just say that you obviously are very protective of Jagex for some reason or you have not read the article. (or perhaps cannot comprehend) Queltar was taking on Jagex for making the parent guide a useless tool and for not following through on their own rules. Parents need to know what a game is like, in order to make an informed decision. The dumbing down of the game, the knowledge base, the Parent Guide, the Lummy tutors, fluffy sheep and the lummy teleport and bank were all timed to be in place to meet the delivery date for the "Official Runescape guide" for ages 9 to 12. Good luck fooling yourself the game is for older teens and adults. Please listen to some old BBC reports on Runescape where Jagex speak about how their best advertisement is word of mouth on the playground. 13 year olds don't go to any playgrounds that I have seen... I think that attitudes such as yours are more likely the reason why the community has gone into the toilet. Pretty vile stuff you wrote about a fellow player.
  23. ummm as you stated it exposed you to it at an early age and you gamble in real life. That is the whole point. Children exposed to gambling can become addicted. The consequences of that will become obvious the more you do it. You admitted you played when you were 8. Anyone registered before the ruling is allowed to play, even if they are 5 years old. The ruling was reluctantly added by Jagex, as their main target group was always around 10. Parents that read the one sided comments in the "parent guide" Jagex wrote need to hear the truth about Runescape. The author of this article has managed to do that very well. I also have read other comments by yourself and being you are an admitted lurer who has no regard for other players, your "blame the victim" stance is not a surprise. Jagex has condoned the way you play the game, and has also blamed the victim, but if parents were aware of the lack of adherance to their own rules, many would not let their children play.
  24. You are what I always called a non-player. You cannot play the game the way it was meant to be, so you lie, cheat and steal. You are not smart, you are just a lying, cheating brat in a party hat. If you truly were smart you would realize that.
