  1. People said I was crazy for thinking a 'super secret' government group that had everyone's info was a bad idea due to hackers being able to gain that info. They are wrong.

Someone tried to hack my Steam account. I got it under control, but now I have their IP. Anything I can do with this?

No. Dynamic IPs, and ISP-level NAT means chances are you just have the IP of a server.

  2. Slept over at my girlfriends house last night. Never something i really enjoy to be quite honest.

1.) Her cat is [bleep]ing annoying. It sleeps in her room. It scratches at the door like a dog like a dog so you can open it. It's outside for 10 seconds then it wants to come inside again. Who's the one that needs to open it the whole time? I am. She says the noise doesn't bother her, because she's used to it. I want to slit my wrists with a blunt bread knife every time the [bleep]ing thing does it. So i'm forced to get up every 10 minutes to deal with it.

2.) In the morning, her parents would come into the room every 20 minutes to either get the cat, get the cat food, or get his litter-box. Please... it's already awkward enough for me to wake up and have to see them after sleeping next to their daughter the night before. I really don't need them to come in and see what and how it's happening.

Also, it might just be me, but i find it kind of rude. I understand it's their house, but if they're okay with me sleeping there they should be okay with respecting my privacy. Needless to say, last night i got almost no sleep...

After the first time it does that in a night, leave the door ajar. Or don't let it in at all, you'll get used to its noise either way. Stayed with my friend with a month, by the end of it I didn't hear meows any more. The second option will prevent the second part. Which, if is creating such an uncomfortable situation for you, then you should talk to them about it. They're not my girlfriend's parents, so they should treat you like an adult provided you treat them the same way. Maybe compromise? They come in and get in once in the morning, and then shut the door and not let the cat in.

  3. Finally up to the last ep of BrBa season 5.

I quit rs too, the legal rwt update was the final straw for me.

Well it's sure as hell dropped down the goldfarming trade down by 90%, which was a major problem for them, and as I understand it other games have done similar things in an attempt to reduce it as well. Plus, in my eyes, the upside now is people with not much real life money are now able to buy mems, and runecoins (used in a store to buy cosmetic things, like weapon reskins and skill/tele animations).

There's a gif of a horse being beaten to death that would fit here. Jagex is not afraid to brutally maim their only success.

Their man 'success' was as a F2P MMO, they seemed to be doing so well in that field. Now, as I'm told, they treat F2P players like second-class citizens.

  4. So on Friday I finally got my iMpulse controller. It's basically a bluetooth controller that's small enough to go on your keychain. I've spent the whole weekend playing Pokemon on my phone. Even now, I've got my phone sitting up on my desk, controller in hand. Mind you, the thing feels like they didn't even bother smoothing it over after removing the outer casing from the mould. Might see if I have some sandpaper to smoothen it over.

  5. We have some amazing budget telcos here, most of them just piggyback the two major's networks by wholesale purchasing. This is great as it means you can get the same quality network at low prices. I like being able to walk into a store and have my issues solved on the spot, along with good quality customer service, so I pay the 'premium' that is one of the major telcos.

  6. Bushfires are so bad right now. Only a mountain separates the fires from my house.

I don't see how no contract makes sense in the long term. I could see doing it for a month or two to see if there are any issues with the provider, so that you can bail, but at least here, sailing without a contract would be tantamount to handing your provider free bags of cash. You can save money if you don't use your phone much, and know how much you will be using it in advance, but to match most contract planes without the contract part is just scary. That's how they get you to sign on.

Here the only difference between contract and no contract is that contracts come with a phone at either a subsidised cost, or no cost at all. It's for 12 months in that case. I think that anyone on a contract here is an idiot. I know that if I move or anything happens and I'm unable to get reception, I can just cancel on the spot and only for the rest of the month.

  7. I only have 100mb data but I don't use it much. Also it's only 25 a month for unlimited text and calling as well so I can't complain too much

That'd cost $60 for me here. On top of that I'd get 2GB data.

  8. They keep telling me its 100MB per $10. either way, im going in this week to sort it out since the guy who put me on a plan stated what you said. And if he lied, well... lets just say the peeps in charge of ...whatever their name is that look into misleading companies... will be involved.

For that you want the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman. Nothing gets them to say "Ok, we'll do what we said we would when you signed up." like the TIO. Grab out your contract first and look through it thoroughly.

  9. Oh man it's so hot here. Even without the smoke from bushfires blanketing the whole sky near me. Several minors have been charged over the lighting of bushfires, including one that took out quite a number of homes. I'm hoping they all get the book thrown at them as arson is extremely dangerous out here.

Also, one of our states finally passed same-sex marriage here. They've had to use loopholes in federal law to do it, have made amendments to protect it from a high-court appeal (one is in the works already), and the current government (the conservative one) are stating they're going to appeal it (they're the ones with the appeal in the works). Really hoping that other states successfully follow suit, Tasmania has already tried and failed, as there is seemly a large support behind it.

uuuuuuugh. i hate having no internet! been tethering off my phone for a week now. You think moving only 5km down the road (if that) it wouldnt take 2 weeks to change the connections. But no. if I find out my mobile provider slapped me with lotsadosh for data I'll be busting out the OSRA or w/e they're called, since he agreed and told me if I go over my data, I just go up to the next data level, and not charged per MB, since I told him initially I wanted 2GB not 200MB [er month.

That's my home connection, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 2 weeks to get it changed is actually fairly fast. My friend still has another 2 weeks to go before he'll get connected. He's been playing his 360 offline since he moved. If you're on one of the newerish Optus plans, your limit gets bumped up 1GB for the month at the cost of $10 if you go over. This works up to 20GB which would be a total of $200.

  10. Those days at university when you're sat thinking, "Before I came here, I had a job. It didn't pay very well, but I was pretty happy with it and life in general. Especially on pay day... why the fridge did I give that up to go to uni, be stressed all the time and have no money to play with at the end of it?"

In the long term you'll make more money. Which is the reason for doing a lot of things. Short term inconvenience for long term benefit.

  11. Anyone got tips for getting into a regular sleeping pattern that won't throw you horribly out of whack if you go to sleep early or stay up late one night? It's seriously getting to be too much.

Dang, I'll just get a next gen console. I will be behind the times if I get a 360 now though, and I secretly want to be up to date with consoles and have my own for once hehe.

Instead of being the epitome of anti-cool, it makes you wise. Although I will maybe garner some hate from this but I say Windows 8 is not so bad. Of course I say this before installing any games or proper software.

There's nothing wrong with W8 per-say, they just need to tone down drug use while designing UX changes.

  12. Why pick a mac for exactly the same hardware you'd get for half the price with the competition if you're going to use Linux on it?

Because, here at least, the cost difference isn't much for similar hardware. You also get a nicer build quality and support, in the retail market at least.

The first thing I did in GTA5 today was kill a hooker. It was like christening a ship for it's maiden voyage. I teared up a little.

There was a huge debate on the radio yesterday about that (specifically in GTA4) and how that kind of thing is corrupting the youth of today, with only minor mention of how it's rated M and should only be sold to adults an absolutely no mention of violence in movies (like Saw) or TV (like Criminal Minds).

I saw it as just one more example of how people raised in the 60's are horribly out of touch with today's society.

The real problem is that the only person not responsible for the violent actions your kid does seems to be your kid. Oh, and you, because there is no way you could ever be bad at parenting. If it's not your kid, it's entirely their fault.

Both of which are not always correct, when it's been found in at least one case a brain tumour caused a man to become a paedophile. Who knows what else has been committed by someone influenced by tumours and other growths in the brain.

  13. Went to the doctor the other day because I was getting concerned with breathing troubles and constant, sometimes violent, coughing. Found out I can have my medical records stored online now, and allow doctors and hospitals to access it (they require my consent to though). Might do it next time I have to go. Which won't be for a while. $110 is too much for an appointment.

Well I would personally suggest Mac's above anything, but I'd get an assload of grief had I said that, because in all honesty, Mac's are 100% superior for everything but programmers and gamers. And on that note, they're not even bad for that, you just have to do alot of more loopsholes in order to have as much "freedom" as you have on a PC.

As far as laptops go I'd pick a Mac over the current consumer competition, but would not run OSX on it. It and Windows are too restrictive.

HPs don't overheat anymore. Better yet, go for pro laptops instead of regular/gaming laptops. Hell my coworker's HP laptop is better than my Republic of Gamers laptop (although he did pay $2300 for it compared to the $1200 I paid for mine).

Dell being stable, that makes me laugh, with the experience I had with friends that had Dell and Alienware laptops for years, and now that I work, all Dells, and their hardware fails pretty often.

Dell laptops are more stable. Your anecdotal evidence is not valid.

The second my entire steam library is supported on Linux I'll drop windows in a heartbeat, games are the only thing keeping me here.

The support with games is growing rather rapidly, especially with Gaben now pushing for Linux as the gaming platform in the future. This coupled with privacy fears in the wake of PRISM being known, more and more people will be trying, and hopefully sticking with, Linux. Me, personally, I got sick of how unstable Windows is and now use Xubuntu exclusively.

Job interview tomorrow with EB Games (or Gamestop as they're known in US). idc as long as it's better pay then gov' assist and keeps me mentally occupied.

Discout for your friends if you get it? 8-)
  14. Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a really amazing game, and Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs just came out. I can't tell you anything about it, since I forgot to pre-order it and I'm now low on cash, but if it's half as good as TDD then it's going to be a masterpiece. My favourite video for TDD would have to be this one.

  15. australia deserves everything that's coming to it in the next 6 years

So many Liberal candidates and supporters are so butt-hurt right now. Liberal Democratic Party got a seat in the senate, and they say it's because they 'stole' Liberals name. Which is laughable given that a right-wing party has the most left-wing name possible. Annoyed that 2 majorly fringe groups are getting seats (AMEP, and that sport one.) The guy who is getting the seat for the AMEP is a unfit to serve as an elected member for the senate.

  16. Filthy casual

What benefits does full/part-time offer? I don't get sick, I don't go on holidays. Which means the higher base pay is something I can use.

  17. Weeeee. My car has been breaking down lately whenever I drive for a while. Had to take it into the mechanic after it broke down right as I got home from a 5 minute drive into town. Picked it up yesterday and it broke down before I got home. So it's back in today and I told them to take it for a drive to see what I mean.

Today I discovered that the annoying guy at work who calls me for help all the time knows my home number. So much avoiding him during my week off. :wall:

My mum has this same problem, but with an overseas company using a local number so it looks like they're local. It's now under DO NOT ANSWER on the home phone.

Go to another Mechanic and never return to that one. You car shouldn't be breaking down while getting back home.

Hahaha, that's not it, it's a difficult issue to figure out, however I've spoken with a friend with the same car and so now I know exactly what causes it to occur. When driving at 80km/h with 91 octane fuel it will start misfiring, with 95 octane it occurs at 100km/h. It explains why it always happens to me, since the roads near me are all 80-100km/hr, and why the mechanic couldn't find the problem, since the roads are 50-60km/h near them. I really hope it can be fixed, only can get a car if I borrow money, which I'd have to ask my parents for as I'm only casual.

  19. My internship is over tomorrow, but I got a full time job offer at Microsoft :D

Oh good. Now every time I have to fix a friend's computer problems I can complain to you for the issue not being fixed.

    Really though, congrats man.

  20. Just went into town for lunch with ^ this ^ handsome devil. As I'm typing this I remembered I told him I'd pay for his lunch. Oops, guess I'll make up for it next time. I feel pretty bad because I got a free headset from him, too.

  21. I made it to university. I exceeded the grades I needed, so I can choose another university but i'm going to stick to my decision.

I'm happy with my initial choice, otherwise I wouldn't have made it in the first place. Really excited that I'm moving out soon.

I'm so glad to hear that Maddy. What are your plans with uni?
