RuneScape Information

  1. No, their removal of F2P from the light hiscores was intentional as well. Well before November 22, W13—the founder of Zybez—asked Jagex through private correspondence whether F2P data would remain available on the light hiscores following their planned hiscores tweak. They responded in the negative. Interesting - do you know the reasoning? (Also if you could post a link to the source of that information if you saw it on a forum somewhere I'd appreciate it for reference.) The RuneScape highscores and the Light Highscores aren't really equivalent entities. The RuneScape Highscores is more focused on rankings, while the Light Highscores is just meant to be a data feed and contains data on players who are not listed on the RuneScape Highscores (as long as they have 1 skill above level 30 - possibly level 15 now). If P2P stat data is accessible on the Light Highscores for players not on the regular highscores, then it would be a contradiction not to have F2P players on the Light Highscores as well, as the state of not existing on the regular RuneScape highscores does not prevent you from appearing on the Light Highscores. Jagex's entire reason for removing F2P from the regular Highscores was to minimize the rank distribution - not to block fansites from retrieving F2P players' level and experience data as well.
  2. On the issue of the F2P Highscore removal, there's actually more to the story that hasn't received as much attention as it should. For those that aren't aware - there are actually two ways to access the RuneScape Highscores system on the RuneScape website. The first is the standard way, which most all players use to view their stats. The second is the Light Feed, which is what fansites like Tip.it use to retrieve F2P stat data for stat signatures and calculators, as well as all stat trackers. Jagex not only removed F2P from the regular RuneScape Highscores, but also the Light Highscores Feed. So as of now, F2P cannot use any of these stat lookup/tracking tools. While Jagex's intent was clear on the removal of F2P from the regular highscores, I believe they may have accidentally removed them from the Light Highscores as well. The Light Highscores Feed has always been used as simply a means for fansites to parse stat data, and provides a way to obtain the levels and experience of skills even if they're unranked (as long as they're level 30+). There was absolutely no reason that F2P should have been removed from the Light Highscores Feed, which is simply used as a data source and has nothing to do with rankings. As I have yet to see Jagex address this issue at all, I have posted a thread here calling for the restoration of F2P on the Light Highscores (not the regular Highscores): [qfc]278-279-967-63398482[/qfc] The thread has already received a lot of support as I think it's such an easy and uncontroversial solution - Jagex can keep F2P off the regular RuneScape Highscores if they want, but the very least they should do is to keep F2P on the Light Highscores feed so fansites can offer stat signatures to F2P players again, as well as track their levels and experience gains. If we can show a lot of support for this, then I think it's likely to happen. Myself and others have been trying to get a Jagex response on this issue for a couple days now but have yet to receive one, so if anyone can get one on that would also be much appreciated - this is a pretty big deal for those of us who maintain large stat databases, but as it's not exactly the first thing that comes to people's minds, I don't think this issue has been seen by the right set of people at Jagex yet, who would almost certainly identify this as a mistake and fix it.
  3. Hi, Name changing, also not a kid :) Hi Toad, May I ask how you were able to bypass the 28 day waiting period for name changes (http://news.runescape.com/newsitem.ws?id=2270 - when one changes their display name, it's locked from being taken by another player for at least 28 days)? Did you coordinate this with the previous display name holder somehow? The player who previously held the "Toad" display name, who had fairly low stats, was gaining steady amounts of xp right up until August 17 (http://runetrack.com/progress.php?user=Toad). Then, on that day, they changed their name to something else, and you (with significantly higher stats) came in and took the name, thus making the stats appear to jump by such a great amount. This shouldn't have happened - it's not a common occurrence, and I've never seen something quite like this before. There should always be a waiting period of at least 28 days between the name changes - RuneScape shouldn't allow an instant swap from and to a display name (at least, according to Jagex). 4. In case anyone is wondering, I calculated the a curve progression for the rate at which the votes are occurring, which yielded a Natural Logistic curve fit: Number of Votes = 96760*ln(0.9914*Hours_Since_Vote_Started) (see my live dynamic signature below for more data) EDIT: Scratch that - here's a better equation using exponential growth: Number of Votes = 72670*Hours_Since_Vote_Started^.4594
  5. I think a primary reason for this somewhat abrupt change in direction from Jagex may have partially been due to a fall in game popularity after the removal of the wilderness and free trade: Of course some of these were bots, but a rather small portion (notice how the second largest data point on the graph is in the summer of 2008, long after RWT/Bots had been eliminated). I imagine these statistics were troubling to Jagex, and that it would only continue downwards if they didn't do something to shake things up and give some people a reason for playing again.
  6. To be honest, I think getting 200M in all skills will never happen, unless new updates come out that drastically increase the xp gaining rates for a few of the slower skills. There's plenty of people who spend years trying to get 200M in one or two skills, let alone all of them. Take Runecraft for example - it's been out for 6 years now and only 1 person has just recently maxed it out. Slayer has also been out for a few years now and only 1 person has maxed that as well. New skills (with possibly the same xp gaining speed as Runecraft/Slayer) will also be released in time as well. If someone does ever obtain 200M in all of the skills, it would probably be a matter of decades rather than years.
  7. Appears that those who want the Wilderness and Free Trade back have a strong advantage. Though, it's probably much easier to get a higher voter turnout among the "Yes" voters, seeing as many are voting for something they truly want to see return, and can easily rally around and support such an initiative. However, those who vote "No" really don't have any "exciting" reasons for their votes, as things will just stay the same, so much less people will be likely to vote/rally around a static cause. I'll be happy to see the Wilderness and Free Trade return though, if the voting trend continues in this pattern. :)
  8. While I'm in favor of a return of the Wilderness and Free Trade, this poll is rather ridiculous. It's a poll with no "No" option (tricking many people to enter in their name casting a false vote if they didn't read the full directions, because they expected to go to a voting page), no apparent user validation, no login system, and you can vote as many times as you want.
  9. The notion that the ring of wealth doesn't really work has been tossed around for years now - but it all boils down to the question of, why would Jagex bother to create a relatively high level ring that actually does nothing, and lie about its effects? I think the best answer is what a few other people have posted - The percentage of getting a rare drop is increased so slightly enough by the ROW, that wearing a berserker ring is likely to yield more rare drops simply because its bonuses allow you to kill the monsters faster.

  11. Good point, I hadn't really considered that. But I suppose the numbers would be essentially the same because less altars does = faster games, but less altars also = less tokens per game session. If there's only 6 F2P altars, that means only 600 tokens possible total per minigame session - while there's a total 1k tokens possible in P2P. I haven't actually tried the minigame on F2P to be honest though, so would it be safe to assume that just like in P2P, you gain 100 tokens per game won? (And is there any extra bonus for winning every single round like there is in P2P?)
  12. I'm really enjoying the minigame and it's rewards. Good job on this one Jagex - I can personally now call the Runecraft Guild the best guild out of all of them. :) Just in case anyone's interested, here's some calculations on the nature teleport tablets compared to other runecrafting methods. As you can see, the teleport tablets are actually considerably slower to use because of the time taken to complete the minigame. Average time to play an entire game: 20 minutes (2 minutes in each of the 8 altars + about 4 minutes for the initial time you wait at the beginning to join the game, as well as the extra waiting time before/after each round starts) Average amount of tokens gained per game: 600 (technically 500 should be used, but let's just say 600 for argument's sake) Cost of the nature tablet: 42 tokens Average amount of nature tablets gained per 20 minutes: 14.3 ------------- Average time for a nature teleport tablet run with all pouches: 40 seconds >Natures gained per run: 53 if 75+, 106 if 91+ Average time for a nature teleport tablet run with 3 pouches: 36 seconds >Natures gained per run: 42 if 50+, 48 if 75+, 96 if 91+ ------------- Average time for an abyssal run with 4 pouches: 80 seconds >Natures gained per run: 54 if 75+, 108 if 91+ Average time for an abyssal run with 3 pouches: 72 seconds >Natures gained per run: 43 if 50+, 50 if 75+, 100 if 91+ ------------- Average time for a graahk run with 4 pouches: 70 seconds >Natures gained per run: 54 if 75+, 108 if 91+ Average time for a graahk run with 3 pouches: 62 seconds >Natures gained per run: 43 if 50+, 50 if 75+, 100 if 91+ All calculations will be based in the time frame dependent on the amount of time taken to complete the minigame and use all of the nature tablets gained from it. Note that I only included abyss figures for those below level 75, as most people who have 4 pouches also have graahks. You may also ask why I only did the 3 pouch method for each calculation - this is simply because having 3 pouches technically IS faster than 4 because of the lesser bank clicks. Evaluation for level 91-99 Runecrafters Minigame Figures Because about 14 (14.3) nature tablets are gained per game, it will take 8.58 minutes to use the tablets gained using 3 pouches (14.3 tablets * .6 minutes per tablet run = 8.58 minutes). You will gain 1,373 natures from those tablets (14.3 tablets * 96 natures per tablet run). You can also figure in about 240 natures gained from the pure essence in the minigame itself, yielding 2,160 xp from the game itself ((240/2) natures * 18 xp each from the minigame 2x effect). This means, in total, one minigame round and the time taken to use its rewards at 91-99 runecraft will get you: 1,613 natures in 28.58 minutes = 56.44 natures per minute Graahk Figures (3 pouches) In 28.58 minutes, you can make 27.66 graahk runs to the nature altar. This means, in total, one graahk round time equivelent to the minigame and the time taken to use its rewards at 91-99 runecraft will get you: 2,766 natures in 28.58 minutes = 96.78 natures per minute Evaluation for level 75-90 Runecrafters Minigame Figures Because about 14 (14.3) nature tablets are gained per game, it will take 8.58 minutes to use the tablets gained using 3 pouches (14.3 tablets * .6 minutes per tablet run = 8.58 minutes). You will gain 686 natures from those tablets (14.3 tablets * 96 natures per tablet run). You can also figure in about 120 natures gained from the pure essence in the minigame itself, yielding 2,160 xp from the game itself (120 natures * 18 xp each from the minigame 2x effect). This means, in total, one minigame round and the time taken to use its rewards at 75-90 runecraft will get you: 806 natures in 28.58 minutes = 28.2 natures per minute Graahk Figures (3 pouches) In 28.58 minutes, you can make 27.66 graahk runs to the nature altar. This means, in total, one graahk round time equivalent to the minigame and the time taken to use its rewards at 75-90 runecraft will get you: 1,383 natures in 28.58 minutes = 48.39 natures per minute Evaluation for level 50-74 Runecrafters Minigame Figures Because about 14 (14.3) nature tablets are gained per game, it will take 8.58 minutes to use the tablets gained using 3 pouches (14.3 tablets * .6 minutes per tablet run = 8.58 minutes). You will gain 601 natures from those tablets (14.3 tablets * 42 natures per tablet run). You can also figure in about 110 natures gained from the pure essence in the minigame itself, yielding 1,980 xp from the game itself (110 natures * 18 xp each from the minigame 2x effect). This means, in total, one minigame round and the time taken to use its rewards at 50-74 runecraft will get you: 711 natures in 28.58 minutes = 24.88 natures per minute Graahk Figures (3 pouches) In 28.58 minutes, you can make 27.66 graahk runs to the nature altar. This means, in total, one graahk round time equivalent to the minigame and the time taken to use its rewards at 50-74 runecraft will get you: 1,189 natures in 28.58 minutes = 41.61 natures per minute Abyss Figures (3 pouches) In 28.58 minutes, you can make 23.8 abyss runs to the nature altar. This means, in total, one abyssal round time equivalent to the minigame and the time taken to use its rewards at 50-74 runecraft will get you: 1,023 natures in 28.58 minutes = 35.8 natures per minute Evaluation for level 44-49 Runecrafters Minigame Figures Because about 14 (14.3) nature tablets are gained per game, it will take 8.58 minutes to use the tablets gained using 2 pouches (14.3 tablets * .6 minutes per tablet run = 8.58 minutes). You will gain 486 natures from those tablets (14.3 tablets * 34 natures per tablet run). You can also figure in about 100 natures gained from the pure essence in the minigame itself, yielding 1,800 xp from the game itself (10 natures * 18 xp each from the minigame 2x effect). This means, in total, one minigame round and the time taken to use its rewards at 44-49 runecraft will get you: 586 natures in 28.58 minutes = 20.5 natures per minute Graahk Figures (2 pouches) In 28.58 minutes, you can make 27.66 graahk runs to the nature altar. This means, in total, one graahk round time equivelent to the minigame and the time taken to use its rewards at 44-49 runecraft will get you: 968 natures in 28.58 minutes = 33.87 natures per minute Abyss Figures (2 pouches) In 28.58 minutes, you can make 23.8 abyss runs to the nature altar. This means, in total, one abyssal round time equivalent to the minigame and the time taken to use its rewards at 44-49 runecraft will get you: 833 natures in 28.58 minutes = 29.2 natures per minute Conclusion: Teleport tablets are *not* the best or fastest method to use at *any* runecrafting level. There may be a few "fuzzy" numbers in there that had to be taken as averages, but you can clearly see that the tablets are a lot less useful than perceived. Now of course if you're playing the minigame anyway for enjoyment and just want the tablets that's cool, I just posted this to show everyone that you really shouldn't be playing the minigame if all you are focused on is getting experience as fast as possible. :) (I've checked these numbers a couple times over, but let me know if there's any mistakes.)

  14. Wonderful, complete, and interesting analysis - Very well done! :) However, although I don't like to nitpick at such a great guide, I do spot a couple errors: Having crafted over 8M xp at the world 36 nature altar, I can guarantee you that World 36 is much faster xp than World 66. While World 66 has an arguably 30-35k xp per hour tops - My personal best in World 36 is 55k xp/hour. ;) (Though I'd say the average is around 45-50k xp/hour - factoring in the uneven supply of runners) Also, on the last chart in your post (XP and Profit Comparison Results) - Your fire rune calculations are off for the amount of money spent. Remember that you can triple craft fires at level 70. Although this does not change xp value, it would certainly change its monetary value. And since regular essence is ~30gp each, and fires ~10gp each - its about an even break. Again, that aside, nicely calculated. I've also been working on a few calculations relating to the "randomness" of the altar in comparison to the runecraft level of the crafter - which (if it's Ok with you of course) I'll post here in a few days when complete. :) Edit: Yes, I can assure you that (as a double crafter myself), if done properly, double nature crafting can yeild slightly over 1M Net profit/hour.
  15. Nice to see you're gathering some detailed information to be worked into your guide, I'll try to offer some help. :) Do you get less higher level runes the lower your runecrafting, and vice versa for high? Yes, at level 99 runecrafting, the highest amount of runes I get seems always to be of a high level rune. Please list all the runes you get from 15 minutes of going back and forth to the ZMI altar and your runecrafting level. Please take the short path. Any runecrafting level would be helpful. From 15 minutes - Using 52 pure essence per trip: Trip 1 6 soul 4 blood 10 death 3 nature 6 astral 3 chaos 3 water 3 body Trip 2 5 soul 5 blood 10 death 7 nature 4 law 4 astral 2 cosmic 3 fire 2 mind 1 earth 2 water Trip 3 7 soul 7 blood 8 death 7 law 6 nature 2 astral 4 chaos 6 cosmic 4 body 1 water Trip 4 5 soul 8 blood 10 death 6 law 6 nature 5 astral 1 chaos 1 cosmic 2 fire 1 earth 3 water 2 air Trip 5 4 soul 7 blood 5 death 3 law 11 nature 1 astral 3 chaos 4 cosmic 1 fire 1 body 1 air Trip 6 2 soul 5 blood 12 death 6 law 6 nature 5 astral 6 chaos 2 body 3 fire 1 earth 1 mind Trip 7 6 soul 4 blood 6 death 7 law 7 nature 8 astral 2 chaos 5 cosmic 1 body 2 fire 1 mind 2 air Trip 8 6 soul 7 blood 8 death 8 law 6 nature 2 astral 4 chaos 3 cosmic 3 fire 3 water Trip 9 3 soul 7 blood 9 death 3 law 11 nature 8 astral 3 chaos 1 cosmic 1 fire 1 body 1 earth 1 water 2 air Total Soul = 44 Total Blood = 54 Total Death = 78 Total Law = 53 Total Nature = 63 Total Astral = 41 Total Chaos = 30 Total Cosmic = 24 Total Fire = 15 Total Body = 16 Total Earth = 6 Total Water = 13 Total Mind = 3 Total Air = 7 (Yes, I know I didn't have to list the runes per trip, but I thought I'd just give you a maximum average for the runes gained by 99 runecraft) Please list the experience per 15 minutes and your runecrafitng level while using the shorter path. Any runecrafting level would be helpful. ~10K per 15 minutes Is there any sort of runecrafting requirement? Don't think so. What armor setup have you found to be the best and why? At 85 defense, I use no armor - Instead I wear boots of lightness and an earth staff (along with possibly a cape and ring). Have you developed any strategy to make the trips go faster? Other than the standard strategy of teleporting to moonclan and back (1.5 minutes), No. If you have ANY information at all that you think is useful about the ZMI altar please list it. -Entire round trip takes ~45% energy (uncalibrated to the energy gained back while running). -On your question #2 of this thread, people will need to post how much essence they used per trip and how many trips they made per 15 minutes for your data to be useful. Personally, I'd be really interested in figuring out some kind of average to the amount of runes per runecraft level. I know its relatively random, but I'm sure there are some patterns to it. ;)
