Fire cape compromise. New post by Mod Chris L.

Making a requirement to kill something you need 93 slayer for, and having that requirement unrelated to the skill at all is unreasonable imo. I agree. Giving it an addtional benefit is fine, but as an absolute requirement isn't to my liking, but that's just me. -

Explanation for why you are saying this? For not implementing the 'compromise' that we have now as the original, one and only update. <_< So you are happy that the compromise we're getting isn't how it was released originally. So you're thanking him for all the turmoil caused by the original update and the subsequent compromise? I have a degree in English and I can't even follow what you're saying exactly. Sir, I personally would have made it that you needed the cape to get the excessive damage hits with fire spells on them, but that's just me. -

So in order to limit the players killing it, make the majoirty of players kill it really easily so that other people will get the incentive to kill it really easily? All you idea does it make them get killed faster, more tasks, more quickly killed, etc etc. -

Carl, it is once again people who are complaining about what they've done and about other people having it easier than them. The whole Nomad thing all over again. People couldn't form a complaint against the nerfing of Nomad other than they had to kill the harder Nomad so no one should have him easier. Well... same thing. It's people with the Cape complaining because they don't want other people doing something that only they could do. Wish people would just worry about themselves. -

I'm glad that Jagex is taking care of the needs of the less-abled. However, I'm angry of that fact that this means sacrificing the needs of the majority of the players: Elite content. I'm even angrier with the fact that that there's no way with verify who's needing this update, but everyone would be taking advantage of it anyway. Like someone said, at least give a token to someone who dies at Jad, and exchange that 10 (or more, MORE) tokens for the right to fight strykewyrms. If you're willing to die at Jad that many times, due to whatever your issue is (or wasting resources without putting up a fight), I'll give in to you. Well, if you want to know, I'd need this update. If I had 93 slayer, I wouldn't be able to do the Fight Caves. I talked to Chris L about it and when he lists the reflexitive issues, he's likely talking about me. Also, let's not discuss the issues with rights of the majority and the minority. That'll take us down a road no one really wants to go down at this time. -

Rav, don't forget they also said it was for people who don't have the reflex timing to do the Fight Caves. Boy I bet that will just makespeople angrier. -

It has been suggested many times by many players that those who do not have fast internet connections are more than able to relocate to an internet café or a library. Yes, because a middle-aged woman/man is going to feel comfortable sitting in their local library taking up a computer for two hours, which people genuinely may need, to play a "childs game", as many brand it. Right. I'm not going to discuss this any further, as what I'm saying is "falling on deaf ears", my whole point is being missed. Not everyone has 2 hours with a stable internet connection to get through the caves without dying. Going by my own personal experience where I had not got a stable internet for more than minutes at a time or atleast 6 months, nothing was really possible in-game. Fight caves would have been utter madness. Carl, shall we leave the topic together before we're told to go to a library or cafe? -

Den, technically speaking, nothing got nerfed. Wyrms are just as easy/hard as they ever were. This only opened up the amount of people that can fight them. Also, the +4 damage is on the player, not the monster, so while you can kill them easier, they aren't easier to kill as a whole, just on your end. And for people without a cape ,they are harder to kill, if only slightly because of their max hit. Again, the compromise isn't the issue here. It's the reason why it came about, something I'd like to see acknowledged. -

Poet, you'll buy the ability to get the assignments. Then you can fight them when assigned. -
I'd like to point out to TT that the reason they run isn't because they're likely to die. The mage will die. Practically every time. It's just its so much of a pain to deal with the mage to kill him.

Kinda what I'm talking about. All the animosity towards people who just want to play. And the thing about it being a slap in the face. Why are all you people so worried about what other people can or cannot do. Worry about what you can or cannot do and leave it at that. Does anyone think this will add a significant amount of players to Wyrms? Of course not. I mean, people with Fire capes now have more of an advantage when killing them I'm not saying you are, but you people are coming across as a bunch of bitter, angry, pentulent children who instead of looking at anything postive, only want to revel in the negativty of this. And if you think that's bad, look who's saying it. Me! Probably one of the most ranting vitriolic persons on tip.it -

I don't think think taking an existing piece of content and making it harder really fits in with the idealolgy of Runescape. I think that is why they made the changes the way they did. Wyrms themslves are not made easier, at least not for the people without Fire Capes. It's just letting some people fight them. So I want to sayu it again, it's not the compromise that's the problem. It's the reason for it. However people are letting the reason for the compromise spill over and making the compromise seem poor, which it isn't. It's actually quite good. -

Well, yeah. That's because they had that many point already. My point was, I don't get why people thinking that spending 3 hours at the most in fight caves and spending 20 or 30 hours slaying for points is comparable. -

Their original difficulty stemmed from the fact that they required both the fire cape and the level to slay. Regardless if you thought that was fair or not, that is an undeniable fact. Removing that requirement for everyone and replacing it with something so easily achieved as a fixed number of points (that yes, would take time to do, but you can indefinately acheive it) lessens that difficulty factor. These monsters were clearly intended to be a challenge, but now they are as mundane as say, Dark Beasts. Whether or not you think it's appropriate or not to have minigames integrated into a skill is a simple difference of opinion, one you could discuss without having to resort to calling other people children lol. It wasn't their opinion that led me to calling them children. It was their bitter, tantrum nature of their aguments that led to me calling them children. That isn't to say everyone acted like that, just a few people. I understand their original difficulty. It doesn't however make the Wyrms easier to slay. It simply omits a little prerequisite content. That's why this was a compromise. You lose having that requirement, but you'll likely have to spend the same 2-3 hours doing Fight Caves a few times over to get enough points to access them. Also you will suffer more damage and not have the +4 ability. Truth be told, I think all things considering it's a good compromise. Having said that, if we can get past how they were, why the compromise was made, and all that, does anyone have a criticism of the actual compromise itself? And please no "They should be harder to kill without a cape." That isn't a compromise. -

I'm thinking of a 4 digit number, starting with 5. Den, 100-500 slayer points is NOTHING. I can easily do 6+ tasks a day. It should cost more like 1500-2k points. I think a day of slaying is a good measurement. You can spend a whole day slaying or 2-3 hours in Fight Caves. Your choice. ISo yeah, 150-200 points is good. -

I like how people think a compromise is making it super difficult to kill them. I think that kinda defeats the purpose. Oh, and it's funny how people think that it should also cost excessive amounts of Slayer points. Are you guys really this upset that you legitimately think that it needs to be this difficult to kill them? God, someone needs to change your diapers people. -

Why do they even need to be exclusive? So lucky slayers can get their hands on them and horde them to jack up their prices? Facepalmy. SLAYER IS SUPPOSED TO MAKE MONEY. I also love how all the people for the compromise lack 93 slayer, or a fire cape. And yet none of them have failed caves 10+ times, that I can tell. Lazy Bastards. EDIT: Sorry I overreacted. Slayer doesn't really make a lot of money per se. It gives you drops which you sell for money. I mean really, the only skill that *makes* money is thieving. Oh, and magic has alchemy. -
What does this post even mean? Also, "Oh noo, Jagex is not fulfilling their obligation to release huge amounts of content every week! Why can't they update slayer every single week? I'd be so happy." Get over it; Jagex doesn't need to give us a giant update each week. How about one every 2 months? We haven't had anything great since Nomad. And the double runes, quest, mint cake thing was not big because it was two weeks of combined updates. Oh, and a lot of us had some issues with Nomad on a different level. If we had big content every week we'd define it as normal, and we'd want "bigger" content, plus the game would change so much unless you have the time to play it'd be hard to keep up. My mistake. I thought the guy I quoted said big, not huge. I want big updates once every two months and something huge every six months. Also, the huge thin can take the place of the big thing for that month. That being said, 4 big updates a year and 2 huge ones. So I'm waiting for something big next, then the huge thing can be the skill, then some other big stuff, etc.

Scarily enough I agree with Libs too :ohnoes: I like the compromise but I think having to change it because people were whining is a bad thing. If they'd have done it from the start it would have been decent - but the fact they changed it because people whined does my head in. I don't think it degrades the quality of the content too much - unless they set the slayer points cost too low. Jeez, I wasn't aware of how much of a social leper I am around here. Personally, I'd have never made it a requirement as I don't think that content such a Jad, Soul Wars, Pest Control, or high level quest rewards should be required for skill training. That's more of a personal opinion though. I'm sure many people wouldn't agree. Given the options though I don't think this update completely destroys the playability. I personally think that few people will really be affected by it. Certainly not enough to make the SoL really common and destroying it's status. It's not the "nerf" at issue here. It's the reason for its "nerfing." People are just worried because Jagex would cave on something like this, they might cave to something that will actually affect them someday. This end result has not made anything worse for anyone. It just allowed a few people who would not otherwise been able to kill them, kill them. I can imagine what happened over at Jagex though: Mod 1: Who told them that one of our directives here was to make game content available to as many players as we can despite their hardware? Mod 2: Well, it's always kind of been known, but I think Gerhard said it in public recently. Mod 1: Dangit people! This is why we don't tell them anything. Not because we protect our updates, but because we don't want them taking the things we said and actually holding us accountable for our actions. -

I do not agree with the ends justifying the means, but I think the ends now are pretty decent. I don't get why people would be this upset honestly, considering how many of them don't even have the skill. I mean, every poster on RSOF in that thread is practically just going *rabble rabble rabble rabble* But then again it goes back to a little belief of mine. People are gonan see what they wanna see, hear what they wanna hear, do what they wanna do. If they couldn't find fault with this, they'd find it somewhere else and still complain. It's what sad, bitter teenage kids do. Boys mostly. -

I'm kinda on the fence here. While I like the compromise and truth be told, this would've been a good way to have it all along, I don't like the methods or the reasons as to why it came about. Wish it had been like this from the start. Anyone tell me how many slayer points it cost? -

I find it funny that it took that long for someone to notice this bit of information. If I had to guess, I bet the comprimise is with the Fight Caves. Probably end up it that you always restart the wave you died at, whether it be two 360's or even Jad until you complete it. I might even try Jad if I could do it in steps. Then again, the people who kill the Tz creatures with prayer, then go into Fight Caves to get tokkul and die, and recharge their prayer will start tp whine. On another note, have they posted the compromise yet? -
