But who fires the nuke when russia and the us are friends. This is actually a good point. Everyone assumes that a WWIII scenario involves Russia vs the west, but if a US admin is more friendly towards Russia that makes things less likely. I also don't think it's an inherently bad thing to have good relations with Russia...

nope, same thing from a UK vpn

The recent lifting of sanctions was a procedural thing planned under the Obama admin, apparently. Still, I didn't know the dossier actually mentioned selling that stake. That looks *really* bad. Given that this much info is out already, I wonder how long it will be before it's confirmed; if it is that is definitely an impeachable offense. EDIT: I did a bit more research. The Russian government had been public about wanting to sell that 19.5% stake at latest in August 2016, and possibly even earlier (implied by not directly stated by the articles I found). So it's a bit less of a smoking gun, if that number has been public knowledge for a while.

LOL the dog's face blurred out... nice job I was 140 at 6'1" for a while, which was definitely on the low side, but not yet unhealthy. I'm at 165 now, which is a bit better. Trying to get up to 185....

A lot of economic policies end up being regressive, unfortunately. Some of them are independently still good policy (such as weighting more towards consumption rather than income taxes), so the regressive affects can be rebated, but there are plenty of poor policies that are also regressive. Like supply management in Canada, for example...yuck.

Do you realize how fundamentally ridiculous this sounds? That's like saying it would be fine for Russia to march into the baltics and kill anyone who tried to revolt, because at least the USSR would be re-united again. Also, they weren't united by his ideals; they were united because he had anyone who didn't want to be united killed.

LOL Iraq was "united" by a brutal dictator who murdered hundreds of thousands of his own people to keep the "nation" intact. The Iraq war was stupid, but let's not engage in revisionist history here.

The US is quite a safe country in general. High profile shootings and a couple bad cities don't ruin the whole country. Also, Canada has not agreed to take more refugees. Canada has agreed to provide temporary residence for people stranded in-transit due to the visa changes, that's it.

You mean this one? butthead.png

I don't know if I entirely agree with this. Certainly on some issues Pence is more hardline (social conservative ones, for instance), but I think he's less of a populist (he doesn't seem like a fan of the immigration changes, for one), and as a result may be inclined towards more reasonable policy.

pretty sure he already said he had scheduled an appointment

You are correct, strictly speaking, but it's also a reality that a significant number of people only read the inflammatory headline and ignore the article with its many cautions and clarifications. Additionally, when the news is discussed later and amplified it is often done so as a foregone conclusion (just like the "Russia hacked the election" line, for which no evidence has yet been presented). I don't necessarily think it was the wrong move for Buzzfeed to publish; if nothing else it allows the general public to judge for themselves, given that this dossier has been floating around for several months. But I can definitely get the argument that it was irresponsible.

Agreed. When it comes to non-citizens, you open a whole other can of worms as well. For example, the US is currently waging a completely illegal war in Syria at Obama's behest (it was never sanctioned by congress); not to mention drone strikes in other countries. As I understand it, America hasn't been in a war since ww2. Everything since has been executive actions, even after the maximum 6 weeks or whatever that the president is supposed to use to seek approval from Congress. Source: my high school Poli sci class Interesting. I'm pretty sure congress authorized the Iraq War, though (not that they should have). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Resolution That's also where I went as soon as I got home and could do some actual research :P From that wiki article, it looks like my polisci teacher was correct: America hasn't "declared war" by the legal process since WW2. Authorization being a different process, if only by legal semantics. I mean, honestly, I'd probably count everything on that page as a war, and would probably also say that congress supported all of them, if they provided funding for them. For good or bad. I hate how much America's military matters. Ugh. Ahh, I see. Still, I guess Syria remains an anomaly since to my knowledge congress has yet to vote on it in any form...
