What kind of creative writing? I need to create a new ending for a short story, and I always draw blanks when it comes to writing things like this. Protip: Unexpected and unrelated endings often have the best effect if you're given full creative liberty. I would personally put in zombies, cause that's what I do. Of course I usually get C's in English, so I might not be your best adviser. Edit: Wongtong's method also works out great for anticlimax. Very funny if used well. What?! I was taking the piss! It wasn't for homework, I was studying. And it's not long and drawn out, it only looks long because I take ages to explain it. I can figure it out in 3 minutes. (or less) and it works in basically every situation so :P

Here is my explanation of quadratic patterns. [hide=]The model equation: ax² + bx + c The model equation translated to the problem we're working with: T = an² + bn + c You can determine that a pattern is a quadratic pattern because the 'DIFFERENCE OF DIFFERENCE' is the same. (2) Now to get a (for the model equation), it is half of the difference of difference. So half of 2 is ... 1! So a = 1. T = 1n² + bn + c Let's substitute a number for n. (n is the pattern number) Let's say n = 1. (1 x 1²) + (b x 1) + c = 5 (I got the 5 from the table) 1 + b + c = 5 b + c = 5 - 1 b + c = 4 Substitute another number for n. Let's say n = 3. (1 x 3²) + (b x 3) + c = 19 9 + 3b + c = 19 3b + c = 19 - 9 3b + c = 10 Now take the underlined equations and make a simulatneous equation. 3b + c = 10 b + c = 4 2b = 6 b = 3 Substitute b back into an equation such as b + c = 4 c = 4 - 3 c = 1 The model equation is now T = n² + 3n + 1 Substitute T = 461 461 = n² + 3n + 1 460 = n² + 3n n² + 3n - 460 = 0 I type this into my graphics calculator to get (n-20)(n+23) = 0 n is therefore 20 and -23. I've been studying for my maths exam (which is in .. 2 hours.. eek.) and I came across a question which I didn't know how to answer. Could anyone please explain it to me? Generally when I'm trying to make a quadratic equation I use this 'model quadratic equation': ax² + bx + c But it didn't work for me this time :/ Edit: I ended up forming the correct equation (x² + 3x + 1) and I ended up with the correct answer, 20. :D
