TER's last three events. I just figured I might as well post them. Yes, mole hunting. :XD: It was actually pretty fun, though way too easy.... Castle Wars: Fight Pits:

The whole problem with too many people starting up clans that will die shortly; that's been going on for years and years now. And from what I've seen, it doesn't have a very huge impact. I think it helps, to be honest. There is Always going to be that group of clans that die out very quickly, but overall the ones that stick around are most of the time worth having. Honestly, it's not a new trend; it's just been intensifying as Runescape grows in popularity. I would quit Runescape if there were only 20 or so clans that just met in the wilderness and clobbered each other; having more clans as competition for recruits forces a lot of them to find their niche and be different, and that works well.

You guys are so hurtful.....*cries* :P

Well, I've been brought back into this subject again. I agree with Gamerr in, at least, his perspective as a whole. A lot of people here don't seem to have a lot of experience with the big-league clan community, and though primarily Tip.it is not attracting that sort of audience due to the fact that it is already rooted in RSC, the atmosphere here makes it impossible for larger clans to settle. Luring the larger clan community back in is, as has probably been touched on slightly, a double-edged sword. If you want an extremely active forum, that's the perfect way to go. But it also means that 90% of the topics are going to be titled "This is why the clan community is dying..." or "What do you think about NH?!". Don't expect a lot of Great discussion. The big-league clan community is basically a continuous post-war Europe racked with problems bred from its own mass and nationalism. It regards itself as the entire world. While it is true that almost all of the world is influenced by them, they so easily forget that they are a minority; the loudest and most famous minority, but nonetheless only a fraction of the actual world. Yes, I am getting to a point. My point is that if you want clans like DI and Adelais regularly posting on Tip.it again, you're going to have to accept the fact that it will smell incredibly bad, as it had before. I could go into a rant about all the different reasons the community's feel would plummet, but I think we get the idea. On the other hand, the traffic would soar back to what it was before. For all these purposes, the current CTET and staff is almost the perfect way to ward off larger clans. If you want to lure back large clans you need staff-members who know that world first hand and, while operating at a satisfactory level of maturity, are actually savvy with those politics. Also, for these purposes CTET would be useless because almost all large clans basically pk-endlessly, going into 10 hour pk run ins. If you set up clan-based costume parties or creative new ways to have low-metal wars, I don't care how fun it would be or how tailor-made it would be for clans, I couldn't see most of the larger clans giving a crap. The real question to start off with is what we actually want from TIF right now. If you want to be able to bring back the large clans and yet keep a laid-back atmosphere, you either have no idea what you're trying to undertake, or you are Jesus Christ. My guess is the former. I've sort of been from the outside looking in at the major clan community for years, and I don't think anyone could successfully argue that I am in any way inexperienced with this sort of thing. However, I've grown a strong distaste for it, as you might be able to deduce from this post, and although I would prefer an active and influential base that can still allow laid-back community clans some significance, as well as relaxed and yet large and organized clan events, I have long-since realized that this is a utopia. Thus, I ask what our mission-statement is, not for CTET but for the Tip.it CD as a whole.

I saw someone's post on RSC; they said they liked RoT because "it wasn't as NH anymore, except for the event-crashing". I'm paraphrasing. Doesn't that sound just a little contradictory? I've already said that Corr was getting stronger in pking, but now it really seems like it. I'm kind of surprised how RoT has been posting their run-ins...but that debate is for another time I guess.

Two down, two to go (Regarding stolen clan name)
Igna replied to Dbzruler72's topic in Clan Discussions
I somewhat agree with Wildgoat. It's not an extremely original name, so I would get used to other people using it; personally, it wouldn't bother me if clans that don't really go on forums or don't seem to amount to much took my clan name, as I would never really come into contact with them unless I went out of my way. The best protection against getting your name stolen, always, is getting an original name. For instance, how many clans have I ever known with the name "Adelais"? Just one really. Of course, you don't have to change your name; you just might have to get accustomed to your problem. -
Actually, you're closer than you think. When you move your Runescape cursor over a player (or any option, for that matter) on the top left of your screen it will say what your first option is and how many options there are. When in the wilderness, when multiple players dd (for those who don't know, all stand on the same space), the number of options you see on the top left goes up according to how many people are on that space. It's a much, much easier way of counting how many people are present; it doesn't show the actual number of people, but a quick and easy division would get you that. I hope that helped. If I wasn't clear anywhere, just let me know.

Stormrage, we're talking about combat-based clan ranks here...generally, I just don't see mining-based or community-based ranks anywhere. Games, especially MMORPGs, are usually centered on battling; and more to the point, pvp. It's only natural then that when we talk about ranks we talk about the best combat-based clan. Also, I agree that pk trips don't show the clan's true strength, since not all of the members are there and a very large clan can get a bad turnout if it didn't give much prep-time, had bad timezones, etc. However, even if a clan dominates in wars, I just don't think it reflects well if they get wiped clean whenever they meet such-and-such in the wilderness. And I think if a clan is great at wars but inactive at pking, and there's a clan out there 10x more active in the wilderness than them and thus 10x more effective in the wild, that counts more. It's kind of a moot point though.

Ignoring the debate of whether a rank in itself is important, this is a popular question...what is more important to a clan's ranking? Pking, or wars? Often times people will have seperate lists for both, but probably even more of the time people will have one overall list counting both. So, the question is simple...what are your opinions? Are they even worth trying to compare? And by "wars", I'm excluding mini-wars. In my opinion, both are extremely important, but pking a bit moreso. Pking shows a clan's activity in the wild and their practicality in battle; most wars are f2p, ruling out p2p tactics...it more often than not shows a clan's spur-of-the-moment activity, although there are more than enough exceptions to this. Warring shows a clan's real strength, their unbridled power...the only thing is that you don't "declare" a pk trip on a clan, you just have one; making pk run ins more frequent to the millionth power than wars. Personally I think it would be better to win the majority of pk-run-ins than wars if you have 10 pk trips for every war. Before, wars were pretty much everything; you couldn't move up a rank unless you beat the higher-ups in an official war. Now things are completely different, it seems. I hardly hear about wars with top 10 clans, just pk run ins and all that. Personally, I'm more used to ranking by wars, but going along with the times I think that pk trips are much more important to rankings.

I bet they still think DS is a honor clan LOL. Unless DS has started hacking forums or has gathered nukes and is demanding a ransom from the UN, nothing you say is going to shock me.

To keep those who do post here in check. :) We need three mods to keep all 7 of the level 70-80s in line? If you look at the recruiting forums, you'll find a lot more than seven people posting... :-s

What the heck is up with this topic...:|

Well, I've been out of the loop for a week or two, but I still know the general assembly of things well enough. I know a lot about clans, but if anything major happened in December, I completely missed it.
-
Wow, the combat recruitment forum is a lot busier than I expected. The recruiting forums within themselves merit new mods, so there you go antonwhy. Last night I had a nightmare that I saw a recruitment topic with 240 bumps...seriously. :anxious:

Nice turnout. It's too bad TPF got crashed on the way there, but congrats anyway. :)

It's all baseless rumor. It's far more likely that Lordship wasn't even hacked at all.
-
If you've been in a clan long enough, you'll know it happens a lot. Like people say they were an admin at their old clan and all of a sudden, they wanna be admins in this clan too. Unfortunately, ranks are not transferable. Only happened to me once and I've been in clans for years. :| QED

I think Lordship was in the right, but what he did was still stupid.
-
That actually sounds a lot like His Lordship. From what I've seen and heard by countless WG members, Handyguy's story is more or less accurate. I've heard different counts of the numbers of members who left, from 60+, to 80+, to 100+. To be honest I'm not shocked at all. Pretty ironic how this happened not long after WG said the Sabres would die without them.

Pretty self explanatory, really. Post the most memorable clan experience you've ever had. In My Own Clan -- An experience you had in a clan you led or were a member of. In Another -- Something you heard or saw, but didn't participate in. I'll start off... In my own clan KS, I think the most memorable thing was the fun war we had with our allies. We were long-standing rivals with them, so when we won, it was a great feeling; but best of all, the person who killed the enemy leader started auctioning off his bones, and the thing really took. There were at least five forum pages of people upping the bid just for bones. :) In another...I'd say my most memorable one was the first war-video I've ever seen, when TA crushed a rival alliance (I'm pretty sure it was Golden Helmz, but I -could- be wrong); it was a couple years ago, so it wasn't nearly as big as what TA is nowadays, and it wasn't all that prim (watching it again recently, I noticed a good amount of people in addy or dhide), but for me watching it, at the time the first war I ever saw, it was quite amazing. Sure, they had lower-levels, less numbers, and worse equipment than today's standards, but at the time...

True, but you always have to start somewhere, right? I think it's a good idea.

Does your clan attract the odd weird or low IQ person too.
Igna replied to Ged_DeschainV2's topic in Clan Discussions
The forum my clan uses is very convenient with this stuff. When admins look at the member list they can see the last time someone logged onto the forum; if someone hasn't logged on for two weeks or more without saying anything about it, I'll delete them. That part is easy. Unfortunately, there will always be people who post on the forum regularly but don't attend events for dumb reasons, simply because they don't want to or whatever; those ones are a bit harder to weed out. -
DI - Before; they were the "high-level haven", and while they were kind of known to urinate on everyone else, they had some really good rivalries. Not so much anymore. DS - Lame; not a lame clan, but a lame name. It's just about as cliche as you can get. Gladz - Kick-***; especially their rivalry with DI not long ago. Shame that's gone now. Excer - Wave; doesn't this clan go down and uphill every 5 months? It's like the stockmarket. EoS - wot FoM - wot MK - wot BK - Where; where are they? I know they're still alive and doing fairly well, but what happened? WG - Death; I don't have a good history with WG. I'd kind of like it if they died to be honest. 'The' - Awesome; I'd rather not go into more detail than that. TF - Some I'll add... Sabres - Sneak; good luck Sneak. Sabres are on the rise. Devilz - Crash; had the shortest time in a #2 spot ever. Well, probably not, but it was still crazy. Mori - Jesus; christ, the little engine that could. I remember way back you were everyone's noob, and look what happened.
-
Nah, BK never disbanded...in fact, from what I hear they're still going strong, just not As strong, if you know what I'm saying. Flames of Zamorak...I have no clue. I was out of the clan scene for a little at one point too, so I guess I missed them.
