I'm really confused now. Anyways, basically my common sense is that you can do anything you want with your country, as long as it is balanced with other countries. That's why I couldn't expand by GDP at 5%, and that's why you might have to keep limits on spending. Weren't you just yelling at me earlier about how expanding my GDP at 5% was going to screw the game up?

Of course not. We don't have to control your country to actually use currency. It just means that the willingness of your people to work for you for free is that up to your GDP surplus, which according to Doom is 3 billion.

As long as the second thing doesn't cancel the first thing, then I vote for that as well.

Oh Archi, I have a question. So you're putting 50 billion dollars worth of currency (correct me if I'm wrong) into those various upgrades of your P-Jets, every year. This isn't including other random stuff that you're doing (mustard gas mines, defences, etc). Using Doom's system, your economy produces a surplus of 3 billion dollars a year. Don't you think that your spreadsheet system is overpowered? ------ I thought we were trying to stay within our solar system: specifically near our planet and maybe Mars.

Oh, I vote against Time Dilation. I'm not really sure about it, but I prefer the older way of playing the game, since it would make the game much more confusing.

Exactly how effective is this time dilation thing? Is it like being able to teleport an army half way across the world? Or is it more like making someone go to sleep in a capsule longer.

Well of course people will steal it if it's completed. That's what countries do. Britain invents a tank and uses it during world war 1, then Germany comes back with even bigger ones during world war two. Of course the faster you go with these new techs, the faster people will catch up with you. If you take smaller incremental steps, like the Stratos Jet was sorta incremental, or maybe slightly better tanks, or a proto-type exoskeleton, then people won't be inclined to copy, because it's just a small thing. If you make something that seems more powerful than everything else, then everyone will simply think "Oh, Archi justified it, so I can use it too." Then we're stuck in 2030 with all these new fangled weapons that none of us should have in the first place. It's not possible to remain in front of the technological curve for more than five years, until people fight to catch up. ------- It's fine to invent crap, as long as it's not too advanced crap.

I'm pretty sure that most of those are overpowered, at least when added on to an already unfeasible weapon. You could've just stated that you were starting project so and so, and we wouldn't know anyway until you used it.

Japan humbly accepts the security council spot, and prepares five super carriers and their escorts for duty with the UN, to be immediately dispatched from the Japanese home islands in event of crisis.

Can you imagine the gameplay effects though? Mather: I activate my time dilation to speed things up into the future. Retech: By now, Japan is the best and uber pwns everyone. Archi: Nuh-uh, my P-Jets can now travel at the speed of light and drop uber bombs. Dusty: Well you can all go ahead and invade me because I have other plans for your people. Etc etc

Well it doesn't really matter, since that's basically 1% inflation, which is managable. It basically means that my nation just becomes wealthier over time.

Is there anyway that I could just calculate that with 3% GDP increase, and use that as my standard growth rate? I don't feel like calculating that every day. :(

As an equation, how would you keep track of that in terms of absolute GDP (We can just stay in US dollars, but you know what I mean. Real GDP) instead of currency?

Paul, think about this. China has a vast amount of people, which can be readily conscripted into legions of infantry. Now in any land battle, you will win because of the sheer amount of soldiers (at least in defence). Now if there are orbital weapons, then that doesn't matter anymore. The orbital weapons would decimate your cities and your armies, which would be defenseless against the threat. Orbital weapons would upset the balance of power, and you're already on the favorable side of that. Japan pressures the UN to give it a permanent seat again, stating that it will not actively help the UN in any military roles, or anything beyond what is required of all nations, if it does not get the seat. Archi, what do you propose we do? No GDP growth and 1% of current GDP as the budget? That would cut out any inflation that we have, and it would make it fair and equal.

Also assuming that gasoline had the same "value" which it does now, which varies based on supply and demand, and the differences in the gasoline that they use today compared to those used in the past.
