Brazil releases the following statement to the international press and domestically: The Brazillian nation is committed to tackling the problem of global warming and economic recession. In order to facilitate this, we have invested billions in reforesting the Amazon. Studies have shown that the Amazon rainforest is more productive when it has not been harmed than when it has been cut down and used to raise cattle. This will create jobs as well as reduce carbon emissions, going a long way to solve both problems at the same time. The future of our planet and its people are my top priority, and I will continue to do what is right, though cynics may disagree. When Brazil becomes the first nation to take in more carbon dioxide than it takes in, let it be known that Brazil's vision for a world without ecological disaster and enviromental degradation has succeeded for the nation of Brazil, and that many other nations should adopt the same stance. At the same time, we must recognize that the world economy is in peril. This is why we have promoted the growth of industry and spurred a massive infrastructure project to create jobs. Our economists estimate that the project will bring the nation's unemployment to nearly 1% for several decades. It will modernise Brazil and make it a place that can meet its challenges, overcome its obstacles, and meet its obligations to the world. This is why we are taking a two-pronged approach, investing in infrastructure to create jobs in the short-term and oppertunities in the long term, and investing in our rainforests, to create jobs in the short-term and save our planet as well. Let it be known, that today, Brazillians take a giant leap in the development of the human race! (This is designed to make either the international press turn favorably, or at the very least, get full Brazillian backing for the government, seeing as we are doing a lot to improve the economy for them)

Upkeep raises taxes by 1% per 10 Billion you spent on the military. This money pays the troops. ^ Are we still doing that or can we just pay for the military using the figures given by Rocco?

It is if you're investing in somebody elses industry when you could be investing in your own. I was suggesting that he invest in his own industry + infrastructure. The important thing is our governments do it at around the same time, to give a positive surge to the markets and show that we are committed in moving forward past the recession. It is not the money that counts, but the attitude.

That's the thing. I'm not asking for money for myself. I'm asking for you to spend 10% of your budget on infrastructure in Italy. It helps show that Italy is willing to sacrifice to help the world through a tough time, which might net some prestige.
  5. Retech replied to archimage_a's topic in Falador Tavern
Brazil requests that the great nation of Italy contribute 10% of its budget to economic stimulus within the country, like many other nations, to help reverse the economic recession. The money is recommended to be spent on infrastructure projects, which should put people to work and money in the economy.

I know that it is monthly. Make sure you are looking at the second column and not the first, because the second is the actual amount of money. If you scroll down to bus driver or teacher, then you will see where I got my figures. It generally starts from the high end and goes down.

It's strange, because I found this link that says that Brazillian average income seems to be about $3600 a year. http://www.worldsalaries.org/brazil.shtml I'm pretty sure that Brazil is one of the wealthier developing nations.

Can someone talk with Archi and get the approximate cost for soldiers in developing countries and in developed countries? Then we can post them on the front page and use them as a guidepost to price our own soldiers. Probaly someone knowledgeable in that subject.

Brazil announces a massive project to restore the Amazon rainforest. For the next 50-60 years, the project will completely balance Brazil's carbon emissions, making it basically the first country in the world that has a negative net amount of carbon released per year. Details have been seen to Archi already. Further, the project will create a total of 900,000 long-term jobs. ----- Economic stimulus money that people have been contributing are put in THEIR ECONOMIES, through infrastructure projects. Brazil will act to restore consumer confidence and end the global recession, the scourge of the Earth!

I can agree to this, and hopefully other nations will as well.

I have asked those countries, but we would be incredibly pleased if the glorious nation of South Africa contributed. It would be the first time that an African country tried to save the world economy and would set a good example.

Usually if you place money that you don't already have (aka printing money), it increases inflation. There are two things that result in a lack of inflationary tendancies. First, we are not printing any money. Second, we are countering a recession. Usually, recessions result in a lack of inflation or deflation (opposite of inflation), so we are just countering that. That was how the recession started, but a recession usually continues because of a lack of confidence in the markets, so people hoarde money and companies produce less products, resulting in economic slow down. This is based on my understanding of economics. Hopefully Archi is not a nihilist that thinks that the economic gets screwed every time someone does anything to it (and gets screwed regardless). :) --- Also, if this is the only thing that we work together on, let's just agree not to screw up the economy and the enviroment, so when we eventually go to pointless wars, we get to win useful pieces of land, rather than a deforested wasteland, kay?

That's not exactly how economic stimulus works. Basically everyone chips in a small part of their budget to increase liquidity and project an image that governments are doing crap about the economy. Then investors are happy and continue production, while consumers are confident that they won't lose their jobs and they keep purchasing. Then recession is averted and everything gets back to normal. I can't afford to compensate you if the stimulus fails, but I thought you'd show global leadership, seeing as you're Germany and all. If it doesn't work, then it's only a small dent and we can try new approaches. If it does work, take some credit in the fact that you helped avert economic collapse. :)

Icu, it's called economic stimulus. As I recall, Germany is one of the more prosperous nations in Europe, so would have the most to lose when the European economy tanks (which they surely will without stimulus). I don't really have much to worry about because developing countries are still growing at a fast rate IRL, though I am personally more concerned about the global economy. Trust me, 10% is not going to put a big dent in your budget but it will certainly have widespread benefits, possibly averting the recession. (Brazil grew some 8% during the recession) If Germany commits to pledging 10% of its budget towards economic stimulus, then Brazil will match with 10% of its budget, even though Brazil isn't exactly wealthy.

I think that you have to pay money to subsidize stuff. And the loans are generally a good idea, except that they often start causing bubbles in housing and stuff. --- And nice, stealing my idea for prisoners being forced to work in factories during prison time. :) 50 million is sent to Germany for the hydrogen fuel cells (if they will accept it) and 15 million is sent to the think tank for the mining lasers (if they will accept it).

Brazil urges nations to comply with the WTO regulations and reduce tariffs, to avert economic collapse. It calls on wealthy nations (basically developed nations) to contribute a portion (10% or so) of their budgets in an economic stimulus, aiming to bring capital levels to normal and increase consumer spending. On its part, Brazil will reduce tariffs jointly with other nations to increase trade. It also advocates a seven year ceasefire between major powers (aka player countries) until this recession is resolved. Brazil also calls for world consensus on the Middle Eastern issue.
  17. I had the greatest dream ever. So basically I was playing Europa Universalis (in a dream way, so it was more of a cinematic), but it is modern times. The view centers on the United States of America. President Barack Obama Diplomacy: 9 Military: 3 Administration: 4 Tribal Federation The primary culture of the US is Yankee, predominant in the north. We have the Mexican culture in the lands annexed from Mexico and Dixie culture in the old South. The situation is grim. With the ascension of Barack Obama, a tribal succession crisis breaks out! The non-core lands in the South rise in revolt and the US army runs to take care of it. Meanwhile, the state of Alaska also rebels and forms a new country, Imperial Russia. Empress Sarah Palin Diplomacy: 0 Military: 9 Administration: 0 Absolute Monarchy The Russian Federation seizes this oppertunity to seize oil-rich Alaska and invades Imperial Russia with the reconquest casus belli. Palin's army of 15,000 Incan spearmen cannot stop the modern Russian force of Napoleanic lancers, and they are routed. Meanwhile, the Yankee forces manage to quell the southern rebellion. Though fifty years have passed and they are now core provinces, they are still a non-accepted culture and face income penalties.
  18. Nice how I get blamed for the collapse of world civilization every time. :) On the plus side, I probably gained huge amounts of money and lived well beyond my means for several years before that collapse in the world economy. I proceed to rebuild the global economy by not caring about the enviroment and using forced labor to build huge monuments (pyramids anyone?)
