We can hold them off for a little while on our own, Rocco. But my Hlaupari are essentially skirmisher cavalry, and Kiev, Scotland, and Burgandy can only do so much against the Mongol cavalry.

That was part of the first wave, Rocco.

Ye Olde Hegemony
Wait, I had no Hlaupari there. Well, whatever. Did the Mongols take any casualties from that? EDIT: Oh, nevermind.

Sorry Paul! I'm at my HF!

I spend 4,900,000... Oh, wait... Messed up my calculations. I spend 5,400,000 for 7,000 Hlaupari

Mather, they have gunpowder siege weapons that would blow the crap out of us. Plus, they wouldn't charge the pikes and the pikes wouldn't catch up with them.

Retech, are you getting this? Do the troops count as trained or untrained? Also, hope you can keep them occupied Rocco. My Hlaupari can do some damage if you give them the chance. And I am assuming that not all Mongols are horse archers. That would be horribly ridiculous. And most of them are, at least half will have inferior horses and training.

You shouldn't really bother, they don't get much better.

You don't need to research them?

Heh. This game is awesome. And I'm just sitting waaaay over here in Iceland. So, yeah, my Hlaupari are some of the best cavalry we can field against the Mongols, but they cost 1000 each. I have 900 now, but that doesn't rely seem like enough. At most, I can bring the numbers up to 6,500, however, at a cost of 4,900,000 if Retech counts the spies I have patrolling Kiev borders as already trained troops or 5,400,000 if he doesn't.

My special units are to be trained in quick-paced agile combat. They are armed with hooked chain whips serving as both grappling hooks and entangling weapons. They are also armed with long sabers for mounted and unmounted combat as well as hidden-sheath daggers concealed in the most convenient spot not outwardly obvious as containing such a weapon. They are able to do matadour-style horse dodging and climb their grappling chains. Their armour is relatively light and resistant to arrows, so they can survive long enough to close the distance with archers if they have some sort of terrain advantage or headstart. Their horses are chosen from the best markets in Europe, meant to be second in speed only to the steppe horses of the Mongols. These are my "Hlaupari," what do you think?

Alright, I have the best known direct counter troops against the Mongols. However, the Mongol horse archers need to be hindered, slowed, or occupied in some way for my Hlaupari to catch up with them. My two thousand Kiev agents are set on high alert, trying to monitor Mongol movements in secrecy.

Good plan with so little to work with, Ross. My Hlaupari are the perfect failsafe for that, they're the closest we can get to the speed of the Mongols, and can devastate an occupied or slowed cavalry force. If you want, I can PM you the Hlaupari arnament and intended capabilities.

Mmk. Anywho, whatever happens, I cannot field a full army. But, I believe that my untested generals are better than those of other countries due to their military schooling, and my troops recieve significant tactical training. I think it would be best to integrate my soldiers into the army of the Holy Roman Empire, and hold a counsel with other combatants about strategies. WIth my field officers and generals, the sheer strength of the HRE, and Ross's mind for tactics we just might win.

Ye Olde Hegemony
Haha, Trol. I have countrywide military schools with an original cost of 6,000,000 and 3,000,000 a decade going towards further training of the graduates. You're gonna need more than that unless you're only training commanders.

Ye Olde Hegemony
Heh. Hehe. Well, I have the close combat aspect covered with my Hlaupari. If you can take care of ranged combat, Earth, all we need are some support and tank troops, as well as something to negate the Mongol siege weaponry.

What are SBs? Also, I think my new special units might be of use here. I certainly like them!

Indeed. I could tell you something rather unsettling right now, but it would put me at a disadvantage. And I'm still horribly curious about that project.
-
Ye Olde Hegemony
Heh. I gathered no information on you, Ross. I only had 200 spies in Burgandy to monitor Project Scorpio and Minas Tirith.
-
Ye Olde Hegemony
And? Makes the game more interesting. I mean, having an edge over the competition is great and all, but I'd rather see my counterparts doing more than bashing things with clubs. This will hopefully provoke some thought on the matter of espionage.
-
Ye Olde Hegemony
Honestly, I think it ruins the fun if they don't have to guess what the agents were doing beforehand. If any of them thought twice about my wording in that post.
-
Ye Olde Hegemony
Hehehe. They're not that great, but they're great for their purpose. Retech, I hope you ask me next time you do that. I meant to make a point out of that, so it doesn't really matter, but in other cases I might prefer secrecy. And unless you just PMed those countries about my spies, they don't know which of them it is and how many I had there. If they want, I can tell them.
-
Ye Olde Hegemony
Well, I would like a small payment for them. 100,000 for indefinite service, and 250 for each death? Is that fair? And Retech, I want all of my 2,000 agents reassigned. Their new duty is to keep discreet watch over Kiev, particularly the border, for the purpose of monitoring Mongol incursions. They are to wear cloth covering their face, minus the mouth and eyes. If capture is imminent, they are to commit suicide for the sake of Europe. It is preferable to die in a way preventing the enemy from discovering the body. The accepted casualty rate is the same as their previous assignment.
