  1. Willing to stake the lives of your friends and family on that claim? Actually, we have been fine without a gun. We always have a broken snooker que, mannequin pole or cricket bat or chair leg to defend ourselves (a lot of our things we have are broken :P). Its a very small chance that somebody would arrive with a gun, if you were born here you would understand that seeing a gun in real life is a rarity. Saw this quote and it made me curious... What exactly are you going to do if some crook shows up with a black-market gun? Its just very unlikely, I'm not going to prepare for when a bear attacks us because its extremely unlikely. -- Archimage, I would be honoured to take part in your new game! The game sounds extremely fun, it allows an element of deceit and adds the nice aspect 'not knowing the whole picture'. The game would be confusing with everybody acting on there own, of course if the president has to give the okay to everything then this aspect of fun would be removed. I have two suggestions that might be of interest to you Swiss Bank Account With the game at the moment everybody is going to uncorrupted and trying there best to stop the other team winning, but what about if there was an aspect of sabotage and selfishness. I suggest an idea which would add some corruption to the game; I suggest that instead of having everyone defined as simply two teams you would have the individuals trying to get as much money for themselves in there Swiss bank account. You could do this honestly by pillaging your enemy or you could do it in dishonestly by siphoning money from your roles budget or even from other people. It could be done in different ways. Of course this is just a concept. Squabble Instead of simply joining the game and picking what you want to be how about some sort of squabble over who's in charge, backing by the people would be the main thing that allows you to get your title and its your job with in the first couple of weeks to give speeches that will put yourself at the top of the pecking order. Whatever team I am on I would love to be the 'Armament's Minister', I am doing concept design as school (for my marks) and would probably benefit everyone with some CAD drawings and sketches.
  2. I've given Mather a bone saw, he might let you borrow it.
  3. In response to the above point by Rocco, I don't believe that a gun is necessary to defend oneself. Because people don't attack with guns then you don't need to defend with one, if in England guns were legalised then we would experience a much higher crime rate.
  4. Do any of you plan on starting hegemony again?
  5. But exile stops them from being productive members of society, people who are tagged stay as productive members of society however all there right to privacy is removed, they become people who can't act anything apart from the norm, effectively as far as your concerned they are robots, if they malfunction you 'fix them'. The device also talks to them and tells them what to do, this further humiliates them.
  6. I personally would go with the lax tagging approach. For people who didn't read my above post I basically suggested an electronic tag that all criminals would wear for the remainder of there sentence. People would still serve prison time however it would be shorter and far worse, it would create the perception that you are constantly being watched, you are punished for the smallest things and food is minimal. The effect basically institutionalizes people in a very short time due to the culture shock. They are released after a period of time (under twelve months usually, even for mass murder) however they are fitted with an electronic tag on there ankle (or if we are going for ease and humiliation on there forehead) which monitors there location and vital signs. If it detects a surge in adrenaline, blood pressure or anything else like that then it will monitor what the person is doing through camera's (both CCTV and the one over the leg) if the person is doing something like committing a murder or whatever then it electrocutes the person, it then injects chemicals that make the person feel sick for a couple of days so that they won't do it again (classical conditioning). It doesn't cost much to monitor the people, it just takes people to flit through people and electrocute them if they are doing bad things. Also, sometimes it electrocutes you just to remind you its there.
  7. :D Thats the funniest thing I've heard in a long time, I have the hiccups now :P
  8. I think I remember hearing a quote about the fact that execution actually costs more, I don't know how its possible but I'm sure that someone else would know more about it. Edit: Rocco's got it. Retech, I don't want to make a personal attack against you but you have basically said that it would be better to kill somebody to save money then keep them alive, people don't want to die. What could be potentially be a better system is letting ALL people out on parole with an extension attached to there ankle, this would monitor location, heart rate and adrenaline. If a surge is noticed in heart rate or adrenaline and if they are in an area they shouldn't be then a camera will monitor what is happening. If something bad is happening then a high power electrical charge will incapacitate the person on parole. This ankle monitor will stay with them for the remainder of there sentence.
  9. Because of quote limits the first couple of quotes by Mather are simply orange text, anyway I have decided to evaluate his system. I shall now do my best to create a perfect society. The most important part would be to make sure poverty is not a problem, for this money would be distributed by the government. Most people wouldnt put this at the top of there priority list, there are places like new york where there is little support for people living in poverty however businesss prevail due to there efficiency. I may sound amoral but my point is relevant; if people in poverty hinder the efficiency of a city what is the point of their existence? Im not disagreeing with what you are saying however if you wish to do this the efficiency of your city or country may be hindered. -People are paid based on the physical or mental work required by the job, meaning theoretical physicists and construction workers are among the highest paid people. I completely agree with this, this solves the issue of not having enough laborers yet it doesnt punish the intelligent. In a perfect society the theoretical physicist is equal to the laborer. -Anyone physically and/or mentally incapable of working will be given a grant depending on the severity of their condition. I agree with this to an extent but this can be abused extremely easily. A women who acquired cerebral palsy due to lack of oxygen at birth managed to receive seven million pounds out of the national health service. I would replace this with food coupons, alternatively a prison sentence. Agreed, this system would be helpful for everyone. I like this idea; it would be extremely useful in your society due to the way money is handed out and such. People get addicted to gambling; if the government imposed sanctions then people would be less inclined to do so. this is a good system, it prevents weapon abuse which happens in America frequently where police are permitted to carry guns and Tasers. Straight away there is excessive force. What you havent actually thought about here is that police quite often abuse their weapons; many brawlers become police just so they can have a big fight. I really dont understand why vandalism requires police to have a Taser. This is one example of Taser abuse: I completely agree, this is the right tool for the job. Police dont need guns to apprehend a criminal; I know that it is common to believe that equal force must be required however dont you think that a more efficient system would be to ban firearms like in Britain? This effectively removes the threat of armed assault. Police need Tasers on this occasion. Same as above. Bank robberys dont require the state to kill them, if there is a hostage situation then snipers may be necessary but the most powerful weapon is a voice. This is basically a good excuse for the state to take libertys. A civilized society does not murder people. If a person is in prison they are just as deadly as a person dead; thus the death penalty can only be in revenge. Why? There is no need for them to be publically available, you will counter a lot of shootings if you simply ban guns like we have done in Britain. Good  Agree This is a fantastic idea, it would be easy to implement and would generally just improve life for everyone. Marijuana should be banned, its addictive, creates psychological problems and just creates a general group of potheads. Agree on the alcohol thing. Personally I disagree, I see no reason for a sixteen year old to drink or smoke. By saying this you are encouraging young children to create a problem for general society. I agree with the age of consent thing but drawn pornography is just as bad as standard pornography, what you are saying is ridiculous and it will encourage a boom in the hentai industry. By letting people draw young children in sexual acts you are encouraging it, almost saying it is ok to do. This could be interpreted the wrong way.
  10. I was posting an evaluation of a persons post and when I actually tried to post it, it said that I had over the maximum allowed number of quotes. Why is this limit actually in place and could I be removed?
  11. Erm, remove your hearth fire from my front door. Sorry will do. Somebody entered, I followed him around, he had white bunny slippers. I checked on my urn and the bear was gone. He went downstream.
  12. Would I be allowed to say he comes from an exceptionally short race of humans who coincidentally live like dwarves? it sounds like a bit of a loophole but it will explain the inconsistency. I have already written it now and don't want to write it again but I'm sure no problem can simply come from me being a dwarf. I will essentially play like a human of short stature and nothing more. I understand that problems could arise if I met another dwarf and it would be harder to change reactions (a dwarf is going to be nicer to another dwarf instead of nicer to a human I assume).
  13. Name Thudg Grimvault Background Thudg Grimvault was named after his father, a strong and exceptionally short dwarf slightly bordering on the size of an elf! He was exceptionally stupid compared to other dwarves and found it hard to work things out, as a child he ripped the arm off another dwarf who was teasing him. Despite being extremely stupid he was always a fantastic fighter, he at age eight managed to beat up six goblins with his bare fists, a feat that not many fully-grown dwarves could manage. Upon reaching his middle ages he decided to go adventuring with only the clothes on his back and a 40lb warhammer. AppearanceThudg Grimvault sports an unkempt appearance; his features include and unshaven beard, long grey hair, red eyes and a weathered face. He is 2ft tall but 4ft wide; his upper arm is twenty inches in diameter! By getting old hes gained a small beer belly but that doesnt mean he doesnt look like some sort of formidable short cave man warrior. Alignment Thudg Grimvault doesnt really have any specific alignment, he will help the dwarves if they are in need but apart from that he doesnt take any allegiance; preferring to simply to destroy things and brawl. Strength 10 Skill 2 Toughness 10 Charisma 2 Willpower 0
  14. Why is my hearth fire surrounded by a fence and building markers?
  15. Andvari, Hey. I enjoy the game and will be playing it anyway for >2 months so I might as well settle down. I dont fully understand the game but I would like you to please include me in the schematics for your new village. Although Ive never really done any building in Haven and Hearth I think an idea would be to double palisade the area, this wont stop anybody who has levels to destroy the palisades but it will slow them down. I also think it would be nice to have a town centre in the middle and houses on the outside. Thankyou Regarding Haven and Hearth, I think animal husbandry would be a useful skill to invest in. If nobody else wishes to research it I would happy to be a Shepard; I found some Mouflon in my boat travels. If we could domesticate some sheep it would give us a steady income of mutton and leather. -- Is there any real chance of a hegemony thread starting again in the near future? Hegemony sounds really fun but a majority the hegemony's are on the back pages. What is the chance of a new hegemony thread starting anytime soon?
  16. Editing, will post plan later.
  17. Thanks for the history, I can assure that I am not Hex. I think Hex may have posted a thread in the runescape forums with a link to this site, It might have been him, It might have been somebody else (I don't look at the names, only the pictures usually). Anyway, thanks for explaining. Edit: Can't you check my IP to see if it is different to Hex's? Stork, there are two people claiming to be you. One is wearing a beige hat like a trainman would wear and one is a goblin wearing what he calls a tree hat. I think they are trying to kill me. Am I safe to talk to them. I just went upstream in a boat to avoid them.
  18. I'm in your village Earthgragonsage.
  19. I can't steal anything because nobody gave me a hearth code that works. I'm extremely offended that you accused me first of stealing things, it hurts. I've only been here a short time and I've been insulted numerous times.
  20. Is there a real hegemony ever starting?
  21. It is still not working Retech.
