  1. It would also be (far more) unfair for those players not to feature on a list - they may have shaped the community far more than people who are in the top 50. Wertyue and Gradeskip mentioned some well-known f2ps who do not fit into any of the levels you think are plausible to search... As you said, the lower the total level is, the more difficult it becomes to really determine who is and who isn't f2p. So I would at least grant exceptions for those people who (1) request to be added, (2) are skillers and cannot possibly have 1300+ total levels or (3) have contributed to the f2p game or community in some exceptional way. We have seen some examples of (1) posting on this thread. As for (2), I believe there are old hiscore lists for skillers? People like I Am a Bahai and the many names Wertyue and Gradeskip mentioned would fall under (3). Although I believe your list is only the one being passed on to Isthatok, so if he adds all the names mentioned here, then that'll be fine :) Kudos to you, Fire Hawk, by the way
  2. I wonder whether you would have become a member had you not first explored the f2p world. You don't have to answer it openly or truthfully (for it's easy to say "I immediately bought a month," just to make a point of it here), but answer it for yourself. You'd be surprised that probably 99,99% of the members community would answer the question just like you: first I explored the f2p community, and only after convincing myself that it was worth it, I bought a month (or more) of members. So you should care about f2p players. You were one yourself. And we are one community - except when people like yourself try to make it appear as if we were two separate communities. A sentiment Jagex seems to support. I see "divide et impera" at work here.
  3. ^ lol, for a moment there, I thought you were talking about Kaida :P That really is absurd  Person requesting deletion completely missed the point of the 200M exp page imho.
  4. Long Live the King, Suomi! If you need protection from the evil forces, I'd be happy to join Dumbledore's- oops, I mean Suomi's Army :P
  5. Don't know whether it would be appropriate to add to those lists, but I would love to see a "Hall Of Fame" while we can still make one... To commemorate some of the incredible achievements of players who do not show on the top 250. Like those of Expert1212, Varro182, Fluhminator, etc. Maybe we could start a "Proud To Have Been a Pure F2Per" list (to which anyone could add themself)... On another note: Thank you, Isthatok, for having been caretaker of the list for so long!
  6. I cannot agree with this comment. I think, firstly, that people are not being overdramatic - the reactions that I see on these forums and on the RSOF seem to be rather sober under the circumstances. You must understand that even Jagex thought this would be a very controversial update - why else would they have announced it a week beforehand? You might infer that they announced it only in the "In other news..." part of their news post. But the other part of their announcement was not exactly new (with the exception of the RS Wiki which is equally controversial from the fan site point of view) - that there would be a whole new website we knew since the BTS for November. The other part of the above quoted statement that I deem critical is the generalisation you make here. I assume you refer to yourself in saying that f2p players do not (I quote) "generally" use the hiscores, not even those f2p players who consider becoming members. Well, I for one would have to disagree. While I was a pure f2per, it was a challenge to get all my skills ranked on the hiscores. As soon as I would log out after hours of hard work, the first thing I would do was look in awe at my rather mediocre (by today's standards "noobish" :P) levels. The hiscores were a form of entertainment matched only by that my friends provided me in-game. I had over 20M exp in one skill before I decided to become a member so as to accelerate my progress. Once I left the members game and decided to take a break from RS, I still returned from time to time to see my ever dropping ranks. Then I started playing the F2P game again, referred to the hiscores and again decided to renew my membership. So what I'm saying is: for f2pers, former members and members alike, the hiscores are a point of orientation and rather enticing. They mark our achievements. This community does not only consist of members. F2p is the backbone of the member version. Without f2p, the member version would never exist. On tip.it, we have many pure f2pers, whose achievements will be negated with this update. So yes, if people are being overdramatic: good for them. Taking away one thing from f2p is a big deal, as it has never happened in the past. It is also a warning to all of us that Jagex can take away anything they want, and that we have no way of changing that. This thinly veiled disapproval of f2pers that I have seen from certain people is quite ironic, seeing as we all have been f2pers in the past, and not one person has bought p2p without having previously been in f2p (and have liked it enough to buy membership).
  7. Not quite sure how that would work from a technical point of view, but it would have to be foolproof. In the past, programs of this sort, which do not interact with the game itself, have registered as macro programs and led to players being banned without having broken a rule in the first place.
  8. I agree that vehement opposition should suffice in any normal and natural surroundings to convince parties involved at least to rethink their decision. Jagex has proven more often than not that such opposition as we have seen with this announcement is not especially fruitful. In another thread, Tripsis mentioned that this coming update has been in the works for a fair amount of time. Revealing the update a week prior to its release (although there was a preview in the BTS for November !) was certainly meant to project and dampen the reaction that would have ensued without such forewarning. Tactically quite an intriguing move. The whole point of the information was to give F2Ps a heads-up that they would no longer appear in the hiscores, AND YET the information only appeared in the "In other news..." section, although it was the pivotal part of the whole announcement. For this reason, I think they were well aware of the possibility of a mass quit, but prevented it in this way. Next week, if at all, only a small portion of the member base will be willing to quit. And why would they? They have nothing to lose by continuing to be members (until they end up quitting on their own accord, at which point the lack of hiscores doesn't matter anyway). And yet, by discontinuing their membership, they lose not only their leisure activity but don't even have anything to show for the effort they put into it in the past.
  9. ... which speaks tomes about their position towards their own employers - essentially us, the players who give them the money to exist as a gaming company in the first place. I do agree with Makoto that "wait and see" should always be the policy. But "Wiki" says a lot to me. Anyone can both technically and practically take Tip.it's guides and post them on the official RS Wiki, rendering the original Tip.it versions useless. I believe that guides and the like make up a fundamental part of this fan site. Other than that, the many useful calculators here will be meaningless to much of Tip.it's fanbase. So this competitor, Erewhon2, is more powerful than all the rest combined. It is open to nearly the entire fanbase of Runescape, whilst other sites are open only to those who know about them - word of mouth and some minor advertising through Runescape being the main source of new community members. From what I've heard, the hiscores will only be accessible to members. Unless the lite hiscores (for members-only) will still be available (and I do believe it will, but if not) there will be very little Tip.it will have to offer apart from the strength of its unique, warm and healthy community and occasional tidbits as well as some (let's call it) "support."
  10. What kind of feedback has Tip.it given Jagex regarding the upcoming update? Have you discussed the issue with leaders of other fansites?
  11. Yet again, Piu, you neglect the many F2P players who play in foreign worlds.
