RuneScape Information

  1. It depends if i've reached 99 fish by then - I probably will have done so I'll be doing either cons or runecrafting :)
  2. Owned one back when they were dropped for the holiday event. I sold it a few years later as the price had gone up to a few hundred thousand and I thought I was a financial genius for doing so. I still sob into a fist every time I see one...
  3. *Facepalm* Firstly noone is complaining. I simply stated that I found it to be Annoying, the Ads do pay for the F2Per's but it isn't needed since they have other Ads all around there Website. Oh and they aren't 10 Seconds, they range from 20 - 40 Seconds per World hop. Uhm yeah I for sure would Complain and I bet you would aswell. Also no need to write a novel about how much you agree with the Ads, Thanks. *Returned Facepalm* 1. Everybody is complaining, you are complaining about it being annoying, as is a lot of the people on this thread. I'm not going to write as much in this post as it is as simple as this - you are all compaining about given a game for no expense of your own. 2. The ads on the website do help play, but the video ads are there as they are the best form of revenue in advertisement. If you don't want to see ads, pay for the game - Jagex is a business and needs to make money. If they took ads out of the game, and provided a purely F2P without ads, they would go bankrupt and then you'd have no game whatsoever. 3. Yes the videos are 20-40 seconds per World Hop... but when hopping worlds, no matter if you are F2P or P2P you need to wait 20 seconds anyway, so therefore it is just an added 10-20 seconds. Those 10-20 seconds are your payment, as you have chosen that you do not want to pay in money. 4. I didn't write a novel, I wrote my points. Sorry for actually having a discussion and including meaningful points. I agree with the Ads because i'd rather there were Ads in F2P than no game at all. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what I say or what you say. If you want to play F2P you have to live with Ads, if you can't possibly do that either buy membership or don't play.
  4. I did it with both Guthans and range, using the guide I posted above :)
  5. From what I understand much of the annoyance at video ads stems from mod gerhard (paraphrasing) promising ftp no more video ads, as they were (are) really annoying and don't raise much revenue. Whatever happened to him.. I honestly have a hard time being outraged at this. If it plays while the world is changing, big deal, but if it plays after the countdown ends I can see why its frustrating. I might or might not use an adblocker on my ftp character. I do understand it's annoying, but I'm currently studying a degree in Video Game development, and part of that involves doing a business module to better understanding of the actual Video Game industry. The main problem with MMOs is cost - Servers can be very expensive to run, and due to large quantity of active Runescape players they have large servers, with back-up servers to match. Advertisement is the only free for the user way to gain any revenue whatsoever from free to play games (for the purpose of this discussion it is best to class F2P as a seperate game as it requires servers of it's own). The only other ways utilised by MMOs are in game stores, such as selling items for real world money. I'm sure you'd prefer video ads to rich kids being able to kick everyones ass just because they can pay for it. Mod MMG may have made a statement saying he planned to remove video ads, but how do we not know their accounts department worked out it would minimise profits. We need to remember that Video Games companies are much the same as all other companies, they must make profit, otherwise they will go bankrupt. To offer F2P without adverts or any other form of revenue would be financial suicide for Jagex, the only other alternative would be an in game market or to remove F2P, neither of these are a valid option and i'm sure when considering the alternatives, everyone would prefer Video Ads. Ads, by single click or view ratio may not seem like much revenue but when thousands of people are seeing these adverts a day, the money that is made from them is a substantial amount - enough to allow Jagex to still make a profit and keep the business running, as well as paying staff, servers, licenses, technologies, overtimes, utilities and all the other costs with running a large scale MMO. Yes, they are annoying - but they are an annoying nessecity in my eyes, and much better than any alternatives available. Jagex makes it clear that if you want to get rid of Ads, members do not recieve such ads and therefore you can subscribe to get rid of them, if you want to stick to F2p you should be more thankful they provide this service than compaining about the way they make their profits from it. After all, they do need to make a profit, otherwise they will go bankrupt, meaning no more runescape, and a lot of people out of work.
  6. Runescape Wikia Strategy This is an excellent guide, it helped me greatly in doing the fight caves :)
  7. So you all are complaining about an extra 10 seconds of waiting, which is what is providing you with free play? If you don't like it, pay for it, but Jagex needs the money to pay for servers, staff and license - and people need to realise there is no such thing as a free game of this magnitude, there is always some form of payment. Wether it be having to look at adverts, or an actual monetary payment. Stop complaining, you are getting F2P free of charge, all you need to do is watch an advert so Jagex can continue to afford servers, licenses, technology, staff etc.. (do you actually know the national average wage of a software programmer, particularly in a specialist role such as Video Game programming? It's a lot). Remember Jagex is a business, and like all businesses the aim is to make a profit, without advertisements on free to play, they would have to cancel the service, otherwise it would cause them to lose profit and become bankrupt - it's expensive stuff running an MMORPG company y'know?
  8. Unless there is a specific reason, such as financial problems, you should always take a sick day if you are ill. Not only can it be unfair on other employees, not resting and giving your body the chance to fight off the bug and recover the illness will go on for much longer. Also it depends where you work, I work in the IT industry as of present but I used to work in a Mental Health Hospital. If I had sickness I had to be off for at least 48 hours after the symptoms had cleared. This was legally enforced and it is the same with my partner, who works in Child Care. She constantly gets up and gets ready for work when she is ill only to be sent home due being to sick to work there. This isn't only bad for her, it is unfair for the children who are far more suscetible to catching the sickness. You just need to think about what it is that is causing you to feel ill, I would go into work with a cold or earache for example, but since I work with computers if I'm suffering from headaches I would not go in as I could not concentrate and staring at a screen will only make it much worse.
  9. Your link is not working so I can't see the templates. I have no experience with youtube backgrounds but what I recommend you do is go on the Youtube page, and somewhere it will likely mention a size of backgrounds, then resize it. If not, in Photoshop resize the image itself (using the resizer found in the top menus, not manually) gradually until it fits. If this doesn't work, it is most likely a resolution problem, this can also easily be fixed in Photoshop :)
  10. I actually agree with all ads (except pop-ups) for free to play users. Jagex is a company and they need to make money, they offer their F2P services free of charge for you, all you have to do is sit through this short video. Would you rather that or the entire game being a P2P game? They need to make money somehow as a lot of money goes into server costs and maintenence, with free worlds being some of the highest used servers. They need to pay for these servers somehow, and because they aren't charging you a fee for using them, they make the money to maintain the servers (and back-up servers) through advertisement. It's perfectly fair in my honest opinion.
  11. The paws do still give the double exp bonus when using a Dwarf Multicannon - in some ways a blessing, and in others a curse.
  12. People are very rarely banned for multi-logging due to IP addresses, as Jagex fully understands that multiple accounts may play on the same network. The only time people are ever given a discplinary mark (there is very rarely a ban for multi-logging) is if they are in control of both accounts, the accounts are interacting with each other and the player themselves admit it in chat (which is then reported and the snapshot is sent of them admitting doing the above) Having a friend play with you on the same network is perfectly safe, and I have done it several times over the years.
  13. Oh god - I have one that immediately comes to mind. A year after the Party Hats were dropped, I realised they had begun to rise in price, I waited a few months, and thinking myself a genius, sold it for maybe a few hundred thousand. Financial Genius yeah? Now they are worth several billion and every time I see one I sob into my fist.
