Why can't you divide by X? If X was 1 then you could divide by X, but when X(which you are supposed not to know, that is why it is algebra...) is 0 you can't.... Maths fail! We should rename the topic Mathematics :thumbsup: Nope

Its a simplification. If you divide anything by itself you cancel it. Elementantary rule of mathematics. In algebraci terms... x*y=x*y If you then divide both sides by y you get x=x Thus the orginal statement cancles to thte final statement. Its a fairly common principle in mathematics. But in algebraic terms... (x-x)x=(x-x)(x+x)=0 Then divide by x-x to simplify. x=x+x Then divide by x 1=2

1 over 0 is just 1 shared between no one...and if no one recieves anything then no one has anything and thus there is nothing. Just because maths is uncomplete doesn't mean the universe is uncomplete...added to that, it seems unlikely that the universe would ever have to divide something by nought because it really is just quibbling and has no real application....all the more proof that nothing does not exist, except in the minds of humans... It does get a bit overkill at times. Something goes wrong and it will be with me for weeks, constantly reminding me of how I failed...Even stuff that happened years ago, or just some random errant thought from somewhen, will come back and dominate my mind from time to time....Its so draining to have to fight yourself over a mistake or a random thought... But as is life...I guess.
