  1. I thought he needed to be a bit more agressive.
  2. My bet would be a heck of a load of blood blitz's and possibly a lot of attempts.
  3. Well my most recent unit of work at college has been on the subject of lighting. I have enjoyed it quite a lot and ive also learned a fair bit in the process. So, i have chosen some of the best shots i took and here they are: That last shot is my favourite. Anyway, my next theme of work will be travel so that should be interesting and if i get some good feedback i will probably keep you updated.
  4. Both shots have what it takes to be called good, but they both suffer from problems. The first shot is quite a nice concept but i think the phone looks a little out of place and also the white balance is off. The second photo is better technically but as gswyrm said its a bit cliche. But that doesnt stop me from liking it..
  5. Nice, but if you think you're onto a winner then i may have to pull out the big guns! I.e my new lens and my bedroom fan!
  6. Well i found a super duper cool flashy blue green and red stobe light thingy. I put it to use along with an old glass in my garage and this is the result, definitely one of my best still life shots yet;
  7. Personally i think there is normally more effort involved in travelling somewhere to take a good landscape shot than there is when taking a still life shot indoors, even if the landscape shot is easier to take. So unless those amazing mountains in your back garden, i wouldnt put that shot down so much. :P
  8. The first two are well shot but somewhat boring. The landscape shot is really very nice though. :)
  9. As people have already said the first shot is somewhat grainy and bland. However, the second shot is really good. Its perfectly shot and i love the detail. Great job overall. :)
  10. The first photo is well taken, technically good but quite boring subjet matter. The second and third are well composed but having being taken facing directly into the sunlight the glare kind of ruins them. :( I think you definately have the potential for a good shot with all of them, you just need to work on those problems.
  11. Hmm, fake apple, shiney table, chair background?
  12. Sure, go ahead, btw if you need a higher res version then i can provide. :) EDIT: btw, make sure you post or pm me the finished result, i would be interested to see what you come up with.
  13. Worcester cathedral, a very impressive place actually. :)
  14. Heh, I find the hard thing about a tripod is carrying it around in public places. Lots of odd looks, and it's just worse when I actually start to set it up. Thats true, i have the same problem. Also when taking my church shots i had to compete with large groups of curious tourists and red-robed religious folk who seemed to spend hours praying and ruining my shots. I feel your pain.
  15. Thx, and being as you're the digital imaging expert can you tell me which shots need improvment in terms of colour and contrast? Btw, the shot of the church i desaturated the colours on purpose.
  16. ~645 USD in Grand Cayman (tax-free islands). Saved about $400 Canadian, even after the exchange rates. :) I'm wondering: what makes a good photo? Other than originality, which is obviously lacking in my photos so far. :P Yes it does, thanks. Does this mean that, for indoors or low-light situations, I'm pretty much stuck with using a tripod to avoid grain? Same, it's freezing up here too. But those shots were taken in Texas :) Awesome weather down there! Pretty much yes, although its not too bad to use an ISO of around 400 if you dont mind a slight quality loss. Ive been having that problem also and i must admit its awkward putting up my tripod indoors. lol.
  17. Right so i think im ready now to share a few of my recent photos with you. I have recently purchased a nikon d50 *wink wink, venomai* And ive been having fun with it for about a month. Im in the first year of a photography course at college, which is mainly work with film slrs so i might be able to show you some real photos too some time lol.. Anyway, here are 7 shots all taken recently. :) Btw, i know the water drop shot is very overused, but i couldnt resist. Anyway, if you want to you can check out my dev art page and say hi. http://john-2d.deviantart.com/
  18. You've definately improved since the last shots. The technique is much better now you just need to find some interesting subject matter. 8)
  19. First photo you overexposed the sky a little and underexposed the foreground, apart from that its nice. Second photo is really great, nice colours and composition, i like. 8)
  20. Yes, ISO does affect the grain of an image, the lower the iso the less grainy the image will be. Therefore the lowest ISO possible is usually favourable. If its a question of brightness then just use a larger aperture, or a longer shutter speed, changing ISO is really a last resort. I hope that helps. :)
  21. Agreed, they are slightly grainy / out of focus. Maybe work on your focus and if thats not the problem were you using a very high ISO?
  22. Hey, i've had my d50 for 2 weeks now. :) I can tell you that you made a good choice, its a great camera and i will be posting some shots of my own soon. :P
  23. When they lowered magic accuracy, then raised it again when they realised people actually found out. And magic short bow spec. Range wont ever be as good :(
