Go to a private school, they are a lot better. Join their band, it will make you a better person, along with increasing your musical talent and helping you in school. If you join the band, when you walk into school the first day, after band camp, you'll already have a ton of friends that you can talk to and see in the hallways. You'll be the not so freshman like freshman. Also, don't procrastinate, go ahead, be a nerd if you want to, just don;t aggravate any of those supposed "cool" people. oh yeah, let me tell you, all the football players are so cool! *rolls eyes* hehe. Just have fun, and don't slack!

Right now, Simon and Garfunkel are top. Maynard Ferguson's band is also amazing, but he passed away months ago. :( Big band and jazz= amazing stuff. Sound track to bye bye birdie= getting sick really quickly (our musical, I'm conrad birdie) Ben Folds has some good songs like luckiest and some other ones. Other than that, I like most any band that isn't rap or country. Heck, even some barbershop quartets are amazing!

By third A, do you mean the A above the staff? If so, then you range isnt too bad. Most trumpet music Is below high C (the C right above that). The key I think is a good tone. I don't care if somebody can squeek a triple high C if it sounds like butt. I'd rather someone have range yours but sound beautiful.

Awesomeness! I've only been playing for 2, but I've been playing piano for like 6, so that reeeeeaaally helped me learn trumpet. *coughthrowsinadfortrumpetheraldhere;)cough* I wish I could play the saxaphone. That will hopefully be the next instrument I take up. Tenor saxes are awesome, baris are beasts, but subcontrabass saxes..... dude man those are just awesome!

There are to many conflicting opinions there IMO. I didn't even know that many types of cornets/trumpets existed, In my school band, mostly everyone has the same type of instrument from the same provider :? Heh. Yes there were some conflicting opinions on some of the details, but I think we can agree there was a general concensus that cornets and trumpets are unique and different instruments. Yes, there are tons and tons of different brands, and within those brands, tons and tons of different kinds of trumpets. They are kinda like cars. Each trumpet or cornet has it's own specialities. There are thousands of different models. People can spend weeks looking for the trumpet and mouthpiece combination that fits them perfect if they are really dedicated, but then they might realize a few months later that it just isnt working so they will try a different brand, different bore size, different mouthpiece size (which has like 4 different variables. cup size rim size shank size material etc), different placement of tuning slide, different material. People don't realize that a trumpet is like a car. You really need to spend time test playing each one finding out what works for you.

Woah there! Hold your horses. For one, I have never seen nor replied to this thread so i felt that i was allowed to reply to it. Secondly, if you look at the times, you will see that my second post was not a bumper to bump it back up, since it came 4 minutes later, which I think is hardly enough time to let this drop out of existence. And if you claim that I posted the second one to boost post count. Whoopity doo da. I don't care about post count here. Yay, I now have like what? 19? WOW! gasp!. And guess what...... Your post just bumped it back up to the top! Also, this post was on the first page still so i deemed it worthy, plus i dont think it was too far down. So sorry for being such a noob at this site. Maybe next time I'll ask everybody how long I can wait before its officially called bringing up a dead thread. ;) Lastly, I prefer to say that Jazz is not crap. Big Band is awesome stuff, and sorry if I don't like rap or country or hard rock. I just prefer jazz which wasnt on the list.

It would be nice if you at least registered, popped into the lounge, and said hi so I could recognise you. I don't know much about Flugels, So I can't respond to the last question. I've played for 4 years in school band and whenever a cornet would want to switch to a trumpet the director would only let them switch if they can hold the instrument up high throughout a concert (because of the weight, and the bell is further from your hands) and that you could easily play higher. I have 2 freinds that switched from cornets to trumpets, and if you've held both of them or weighed them you can tell the trumpet is heavier no matter how you hold them. The trumpet is a bigger instrument than a cornet, and anouther reason it is a tiny bit harder to play high notes on than a cornet might be because of the larger mouthpiece. OH god, I know Imust of made a thousand grammar mistakes which is unlike me. Edit: I decided not to play in the school band for high school so I don't play anymore, and I'm to lazy to register on those forums and I know I probably won't use them, tip.it has everything I need. Just curious, but did you check that link out? It explains a lot of the differences between trumpets and cornets. And no i dont think the trumpet is bigger, it is mearly more spread out.

About the only other person on this thread that has awesome taste!
