  1. Thank you for your concern, but I never said they were the same program. I already stated issues with Norton Antivirus's false positives, I was merely stating that the state of their firewall didn't inspire me to purchase their products again. It shows that they are continuing to add rules to their programs that not only prevent something from working locally but are remotable 'exploitable' (even if it's just an annoyance). This is not a quality I look for when purchasing software. Plenty of people do have the symptoms, regardless of whether or not you have personally experienced them, and even if they didn't I wouldn't recommend spending $40 on it. Edit: Actually, I got bored and went on a Google spree. Seems the firewall problem was fixed recently, even if it was around for 2 years with noone lame enough to exploit it noticing.
  2. The computer I had was, for the time, excellent. I haven't used Norton for a couple of years, perhaps it's gotten better, but the fact that Norton's firewall currently disconnects it's users from IRC channels whenever someone says a certain word hardly instills great confidence. Perhaps false positives are the price of "good protection", but it's protection I have done fine without with for the past two+ years, so I won't recommend people spend $40 on it.
  3. Try disabling ZoneAlarm (temporarily) and see if that helps (I've had trouble with ZA killing my internet in the past). Also, just to make sure: when your internet fails do any of the indicator lights on your modem change colour/go out? This may not be worth mentioning, but please check out where ALi5289[Caution: ExecutableFile] came from. I had no idea what it was (and still don't), so I Googled around and most results were HiJackThis logs, and some of those have recommendations to remove it. Some sites list a similar file, JMAP5289[Caution: ExecutableFile], as being found in the same directory and as being malware. It is possible it's a legitimate driver, so don't delete it straight away.
  4. As the top user-review on download.com for Norton Antivirus 2005 states: "It drains RAM like a whirlpool drains your bathtub." When I used Norton (only because it came free with my computer) it had a bad habit of quarantining parts of my favourite programs. It also checked .txt and .log files for viruses (which is just plain daft, since anyone who knew what to paste in a logged MSN/IRC conversation could make Norton do a dance on your computer). If you really want to pay for anti-virus for some reason then I beg you, for the sake of your own sanity and that of anyone else using your computer, don't go with Norton. You can be sufficiently protected with free software, so there is no need to pay.
  5. No current version of Windows has built-in support for DVD burning, which is why you're having to use programs like Nero, DeepBurner, etc, to do it. Having said that, current versions of Nero come with a program called InCD which will allow you to use Windows Explorer as (I assume) you're trying to, although it will only work with rewritable media.
  6. If you had bothered looking you would of found the sticky on the Media forum that links to a tutorial.
  7. What modem (model number and manufacturer) are you using and what other programs do you have running (peer-to-peer programs especially). Also, if you're using a seperate router, what are the make and model of that? A hijackthis log may help more people to help you, aswell.
  8. I've never quite understood this point of view. Does a person being related to a rapist have any bearing on whether they have to right to live or not? If so, how? I assume you meant "can't." Either way, if the baby doesn't have a nervous system capable of transmitting and recieving pain impulses it's going to have extreme difficulty feeling pain. Edit: I may aswell also add this. If something being "part of God's plan" influences people's desire to copulate and bring forth babies, why would it not also affect their desire to have an abortion?
  9. You don't seriously believe that the existance of sperm and eggs has been disproven, do you? If you don't like science, stop using computers and throw away your television.
  10. -Edit- responded to fast (delete if possible please, mods)
  11. Seriously, did you skip your sex ed. classes? Oh, telling people they should convert to your religion is hardly going to convice anyone. As for your nonsense about "The Silent Scream", that film has been debunked by people who actually know what they're talking about. This is in vast contrast to the people who make and distribute the film, who seem to know close to nothing about anything. Here is a nice report on "The Silent Scream." This will, of course, require you to read something, as opposed to getting your facts from a 30 minute propaganda video.
  12. Then you should find a better one. Depends on the policies of your webhost, and whether or not the person your stealing from finds out and complains. Whoever is hosting it most likely pays, and likely won't be happy with paying for you to have a website. Back to your muting question, I got bored and made a little example page which works in both Firefox and Internet Explorer (for great justice). HEIGHT="240" CLASSID="clsid:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95" CODEBASE="http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701" TYPE="application/x-oleobject" STANDBY="Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components..."> TYPE="application/x-mplayer2" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.microsoft.com/windows/mediaplayer/" WIDTH="320" HEIGHT="240" AUTOSTART="1" MUTE="1">
  13. A company/person that hosts a website. If you have a website then you have a webhost.
  14. Perhaps you could explain what you're talking about? AVG does not need to be burned on a disc. All you need to do is download it, run it and follow the installation instructions.
  15. That's why you're being told to upload it to your webhost.
  16. "Running away" implies he has something to run from. I hope this something consists of more than boredom. My advice before was based on a genuinely unhappy young person, not an angst-ridden 16 year old listening to too much Linkin Park.
  17. If you won't talk to a professional then atleast talk to someone close to one. In many countries there are child/teen advice lines that you can phone up, confidential and designed for things just like this. If possible, get him to phone one.
  18. I agree with that from a scientific point of view. However I still would say that anyone who is talking about the risks of cannabis should mention this correlation so that those considering using cannabis are informed and can make a decision based on all the facts, even if the fact is that the jury is still out.
  19. That I can believe. Easily done when you know someone who smokes canabis and has been diagnosed with mild skizophrenia. Good to see that both of you have adapted to my superior spelling of schizophrenia :P The problem with the argument that correlation doesn't mean causation is that, in this case, you're talking about a psychoactive drug and a mental illness. If we were talking about a correlation between wearing red socks and suffering schizophrenia then I'd agree. These aren't just small surveys of a couple of people either. If you assume that the two must be linked, as I do, you only have two possible conclusions: cannabis use causing schizophrenia OR schizophrenia [causing something else] causing cannabis use. I, too, have a 'mentally ill' friend who smokes cannabis, and he agrees. Call me biased :)
  20. For muting video, see this page, specifically the "mute" param. To download the SWF file right-click .com/rarqe]here and click Save Target/Link As. Save it with the extension ".swf". You can then do as darkrick said; upload it to your webhost and embed it as you would normally.
  21. There is a growing base of evidence suggesting that the use of cannabis can cause, or atleast aggravate, skizophrenia. For anyone interested, this is a rather balanced article on the health effects of cannabis use.
  22. I'd imagine people mainly drink beer because they want to relax, rather than because they're thirsty, so they'll probably be taking in more calories overall unless they're counting it into some calorie diet. This being a topic about alcohol, I'm suprised one thing hasn't been brought up yet. This thing, or rather these things, are breasts... Alcohol gives you breasts (or atleast too much too often does, provided you don't have breasts already). The condition of men growing breasts is called 'gynecomastia'. Alcohol causes gynecomastia by causing the liver to clear testosterone out of the blood. Not only this, but it cuts the breaking down of oestrogen. This stimulates the breast tissue that both boys and girls are born with, causing it to expand and branch out. I think more people would stop drinking if there were warnings about that than if they were warned about liver damage :) Fans of Goldie Looking Chain might like to listen to "Hormone Replacement Therapy" ;)
  23. Drinking too much alcohol will damage your liver, regardless of whether or not the alcohol happens to be in red wine, beer or anything else. Drinking 'a bit too much' a few times isn't going to cause permanant damage, however, since the liver does have the capacity to regenerate. Alcohol does have some health benefits, as listed before. Whether or not the benefits outweigh the risks is debated often, although it will presumably depend on your genetic predisposition to the various diseases it affects and your health in general. Off-topic: So your mentioning Hershey's bars and antioxidants had nothing to do with my post (which you quoted), but was actually aimed at someone who hadn't said anything about cardiac health? Seriously, I know it makes a nice excuse to accuse me of attacking you, but you're not kidding anyone. This is one of the most pointless conversations I've had in a long time.
  24. I edited my post as you replied, you might want to re-read it. One anti-spyware program isn't going to catch every malicious program on your computer, and it won't protect you from viruses. That isn't to say that you will definitely get a virus unless you have an anti-virus program running. Fix your anti-virus ASAP and, as always, don't click links from people you don't trust, accept files that you're not certain are safe, etc.
