  1. The uxtheme patcher isn't a crack for Windows Blinds, it modifies a Windows system DLL so that it allows you to use homemade Windows themes rather than just the ones Microsoft allows you to. As for the original question: You'll have to search for yourself on each individual modification you've used, since each may or may not work on Vista with or without an update. Things like desktop widgets ought to work, since they're not direct modifications of Windows or its registry settings.
  2. Most likely whatever shortcut you're opening IE with is pointing to "C:\Windows\IE7" rather than "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\" (or their equivalents). Open the latter directory, right click iexplore dot exe then Send To -> Desktop (Create Shortcut).
  3. http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/ Is that "I tried and failed" or "I'm too lazy to try at all"?
  4. Pressing the Windows Key and R together will open the Run dialog box.
  5. Virtually all 802.11 cards support Ad-Hoc mode, and have for quite a while.
  6. Actually you can share internet connections over a wireless ad-hoc network with no need for a router. Buying a router is still an infinitely superior option, though.
  7. That occurs when two devices try to use the same IP on the same network. If you've manually configured your network settings you should make sure each computer has a different IP, or just turn DHCP on ("Obtain an IP address automatically" in Windows).
  8. No it doesn't, it blocks outgoing too. Some programs are automatically detected and Windows automatically gives the program internet access. Some you will have to allow. It only asks for programs that try to listen for incoming connections, not ones that attempt to make outgoing connections. Even if you click "Keep blocking" when it asks it will still allow outgoing data from the same program.
  9. There's a difference between correcting someone and being "anal." That was actually one of the few posts I've made that aren't anal at all.
  10. Have you tried reading this (which is, incidentally, one of the first results on Google and the page the first result links to)?
  11. That would imply that buying things online is less secure than logging in to RuneScape, which simply isn't true. If something is sent over the Internet then one of the "postal workers" (routers) can read it (infact they have to), just like the FBI/MI5/whoever can listen in to phone calls provided they have access somewhere the call is being routed through. Logging in via the java client doesn't create a magical link to the Jagex servers ignoring space and time, everything still goes through atleast a dozen routers between you and the server you're playing on. The RuneScape client doesn't appear to send passwords in plain text, so they're most likely encrypted/hashed/encoded.
  12. Now that's just stupid. Someone can't take a joke... (Microsoft can, though. If you type that into the ie7 address bar, you get a blank blue background. BSOD, ftl?) Doesn't work on IE7 here, works on IE6 though. Can still get to it in IE7 via res://mshtml.dll/about.moz. Edit: Google says about:mozilla left with XP SP2 :(
  13. While I agree we do get some repetativly questions or easilly answered questions this IS the tech and computer board in which he had some questions about tech and computers. Yes, and I both answered them (in the absence of anyone else doing so) and showed him how to get answers to simple questions without waiting 24 hours in future. Aren't I brilliant!
  14. Question 1: http://www.google.com/search?q=download+youtube Question 2: http://www.google.com/search?q=convert+flv
  15. Does the BSOD still mention nvtcp.sys? If so it seems a reasonably common problem. You may wish to peruse some of the posts listed here. The general consensus seems to be that it's caused by nVidia nForce drivers (specifically the network driver) and can be fixed by up/downgrading them. This is the most useful page I could find on the matter.
  16. Have you made sure to enable the Aero theme as I suggested?
  17. I'm not on Vista right now, but the 3D task switching is only available if you're running the Aero theme. I'm not sure about the Preview setting, but I believe that's the same. http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vi ... indows.htm
  18. You get the ban message if it was a server ban, not the annoying 'Software caused connection abort' error. I did say "sometimes", and it does happen: sometimes. The best-case scenario of receiving a ban message doesn't affect that. I'm not sure what causes it, primarily because I can't be bothered to open up a packet sniffer to check. I've seen it on multiple [Windows] computers, clients and IRCds, although most often I experience it when I connect to UnderNet without identd and neglect to type the /quote PASS command when prompted. In those instances I receive a g-line notification and a clean disconnect, then receive 10053 on each reconnect until the ban expires.
  19. That sounds like it might be "Software caused connection abort" which sometimes occurs when you're banned from a server (that may not be you specifically, but someone with a similar host/nickname/ident/etc.) and the connection is closed soon after opening. Can you connect to other networks?
  20. You don't think - you've let other people (not God) do your thinking for you. Congratulations on being brainwashed :) Homosexuality isn't "right" or "wrong", it's a personal choice. HIV doesn't care whether you're gay or not.
  21. In all likelihood you'll have to restart the router (usually with a sunken button on the back) to reset the password. If there's another way it should be apparent in the router's manual (which can often be downloaded if you don't have it). If it comes to rebooting your router most ISPs provide connection settings on their website. The Internet Gateway icon in Network Connections appears when Windows detects that your gateway supports UPnP, so it probably appeared when you enabled that.
  22. It says exactly what language it was written in on the SwiftSwitch homepage.
  23. Limewire doesn't come packaged with adware. Ads in the program != adware. He also implied that it stopped working before he removed any adware.
  24. You don't need a special video card to support a VGA-to-RCA cable, however you may wish to check if it supports using two monitors simultaneously. You will get normal picture quality for your TV, which is fine if you want to play DVDs but not so good for browsing the web at normal font sizes. You can find VGA-to-RCA cables online for around $10-20.
