  1. -Snip- hadn't spotted the memtest errors. Old post follows: [hide]Is/was that error consistent? Google searches show that it's overwhelmingly caused by faulty USB software/drivers. I'd suggest unplugging+disabling all your USB devices/controllers (including any USB PCI cards in your computer) and seeing if the problem still occurs. If it does, then try removing the software/drivers for these items aswell. As for how this could be triggered by games I'm not sure. Punkbuster runs hardware scans, but I'm not sure how invasive they are. I've known some (crappy) drivers to destabilize during high CPU usage, too. Running something like ATITool's tests would help confirm whether or not your graphics card is the cause, since they will stress your graphics card whilst leaving your CPU/RAM relatively unscathed. Finally, it may be worth going back into the BIOS and making sure your RAM/CPU timings/voltages/etc. are set to their defaults. I've had errors that neither memtest nor Windows Memory Diagnostic have picked up on but were still caused by RAM settings. Edit: A bit more searching indicates that the third parameter of BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER is actually a vendor+product ID. In this case it appears to refer to a "nVidia Corporation CK8S USB Controller", [10de]. If that's correct I'd suggest disabling it.[/hide]
  2. It was to both of you, really. You can use http://www.youtubex.com to download the flash videos (.flv) from YouTube, then Riva FLV Encoder to convert them to mp3s. This won't magically improve the quality, though. You can use Tunatic (a very neat application indeed) to identify tracks as you play them.
  3. Riva Free FLV Encoder works wonders, just change the output file extension to .mp3.
  4. You can either purchase Motorola Phone Tools or use some of the various 'p2k' tools available online. Installing the p2k drivers can be a bit complicated, so here's a tutorial. The p2k drivers and p2kman can be downloaded here. You can/should ignore any instructions related to flashing your phone.
  5. BES is probably the neatest freeware application for this purpose. There is also Threadmaster, but that doesn't have a GUI and hence can be difficult to configure.
  6. If you don't have permission to run executables you certainly don't have permission to run an IRC server on their machines, so don't. You bought web hosting, not the right to do anything you want on their network. If you want to start an IRC network then get a host that specifically deals with IRC, such as sh3lls.net.
  7. That's the same quote you posted before, but consider it settled.
  8. "Film" implies flexibility. Hard disk platters are not flexible (hence hard disk not floppy disk). They tend to be made of glass, actually. Most HDs have 3-5 platters, which certainly isn't "many". He did not say they were "coated" in metal, he said they had small "metal fragments" on them that flipped up and down (and even broke off independently), which is nonsense and horribly misleading even with an intended target of laymen. Oh, and just to be clear: I did not call him "stupid."
  9. Please me that was a joke (if it wasn't, lookup "Hard Disk" on Wikipedia).
  10. Are you sure you know the difference between PHP and HTML? You'll be downloading the (probably) HTML output of the PHP script, not the PHP code itself, which is only passed to the browser if the webserver is setup incorrectly (or doesn't have PHP installed at all).
  11. You could restate it 100 times, but it would still be wrong. The wheels will be spinning twice as fast as they otherwise would, but the plane would still move forward and take off.
  12. But if the treadmill matches it's speed, it won't be going forward. Therefore, the wings will not be exerted Bernoulli force, and lift can not happen. The jets only make the craft move forward, they do jack squat in regards to actually making it fly. The treadmill only exerts force on the wheels, which spin freely. The plane will move forward and take off with the wheels spinning twice as fast as they would on a runway.
  13. Make sure your ethernet connection is enabled and set to defaults (in Control Panel -> Network Connections), then try following this tutorial. Note that you will not need the PPPOE connection installed on your computer, the connection to your ISP will be managed by the router.
  14. Another possibility is Sticky Keys. Make sure it is turned off in Control Panel -> Accessibility Options.
  15. You edited in the fact it was running Windows 2000 *after* complaining about not receiving help. Linux installation disks are not exactly hard to come by and don't require a sticker on the side of your PC. You were also given a direct link to a startup editor which I'm willing to bet you didn't even look at. If you want further help I suggest you start being a little more polite and attempt to help yourself rather than expecting other people to tell you precisely how to remove a mystery piece of software you have posted virtually no information about. Google is your friend also, I doubt (actually, I guarantee) you're not the only person ever to have had this issue. Hint: "logon warning"
  16. Way to be ungrateful. There is no single checkbox that will turn off all such warnings on any computer so don't expect one. You hadn't even stated what operating system, let alone what software it came with. It's good to see Linux is finally reaching *cough* mainstream users.
  17. Exactly, you can't "bind a virus" to a .txt file because ascii text files are not executable in any way shape or form. JPG files aren't executable, but have carried viruses. WMV files aren't executable, but have carried viruses. WMF files aren't executable, but have carried viruses. ANI files aren't executable, but have carried viruses. You may spot a pattern... If there was a flaw in the program associated with .txt files then a virus would be possible. It just so happens that text editors tend not to be amazingly complicated and so such a flaw is unlikely. There is no real distinction between ASCII/binary files - ASCII is just a map which assigns numbers to human-readable characters. Every file is ultimately stored as 1s and 0s. A file does not have to contain contain human-readable text to have a .txt extension, either. Edit: I should also point out that ASCII isn't the only encoding used in .txt files.
  18. All file types, including mp3 and wmv, *can* contain viruses *if* the software reading them has flaws in it. I am not aware of any mp3-borne viruses thus far, although there was an exploit involving WMV files in 2005 and also seperate exploit last year involving WMF files. The method a virus uses to get on your computer does not affect the end result. Running a decent anti-virus program and keeping Windows updated should protect you from currently-known exploits.
  19. Have you updated your BIOS since you last used the onboard graphics? The only other possibility I can think of is a damaged port/chip/monitor/etc.
  20. Does it show the usual BIOS screen? If not then it won't be a driver issue. If it loads into Windows and the screen goes black you can try booting into safemode and uninstalling the ATI/Omega drivers.
  21. It pops up every time the applet is re-downloaded. Clearing your Temporary Internet Files will cause this to happen.
  22. That's due to the applet's digital signature having expired and/or you choosing not to trust the applet. Clear your Temporary Internet Files and go back to the chat page, the applet should download again and you should be able to choose to trust it.
  23. :-w In Internet Explorer? Tools -> Internet Options -> Content -> AutoComplete [settings] -> Uncheck [x] Forms. For other browsers just look through the Options pages.
