  1. Heh. What sort of proxy is it? HTTP, Socks or something else?
  2. Are you sure he deleted mspaint[Caution: ExecutableFile] and not just the shortcut? Try typing "mspaint" in the Start -> Run box. You can also try Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Windows Components. You may need to uninstall Paint and then reinstall it. Failing those you can probably find a download site using Google.
  3. Those prices aren't that suprising. I personally find it more interesting that PC World (UK) and others are still selling Windows XP for ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã199 (near enough $400).
  4. Does it give a more specific name for the virus? What is the name of the process using the memory in Task Manager? Try to post a HiJackThis log, if you can.
  5. According to every source I could find, all you need for XBox Live is broadband and an ethernet cable, the only barriers being wireless and satellite connections that will mess up your connection stability and latency. ISPs do not need to provide specific support for Live, since Live is designed to work with any connection that is fast enough. Furthermore, Google thinks AOL Silver is compatible with XBox Live. Edit: One other thing I should mention is that ISPs firewalls can block the ports used by XBox Live, but this is quite rare and you can quite easily check broadband packages for this using Google (as above).
  6. Norton LiveUpdate can probably be found in your Start Menu if you can't find it on the desktop. ..and (as much as I dislike Norton) do not take Darrel104's advice seriously and uninstall it. If Norton fails you try browser-integrated virus scanners: Panda Activescan BitDefender TrendMicro Housecall Removal instructions can usually be found by searching Google for the virus' name.
  7. Since you have neglected to say anything about the AV-in port at all (other than that fact it exists) I doubt anyone is going to be able to tell you for sure where you can get a cable for it. Either go down to your local electronics store and ask someone there (take the player with you), or tell us what the port looks like (better yet, give a photo and/or the make+model of DVD player).
  8. You can't code a shoutbox in HTML alone as HTML can't write to files/databases and hence can't store information input by visitors. You'll need a PHP (or Perl/ASP/etc.) host if you want to code your own shoutbox. Also note that PHP and HTML are not mutually exclusive. I'd recommend just using a shoutbox from another website.
  9. I am aware that iTunes converts WMAs, but it doesn't convert protected WMAs, which is what I was trying to tell you before. Even if they're not protected WMAs you're going to need to find something the files have in common if you're going to get anywhere. Also make sure you're on the latest version of iTunes.
  10. Have you made sure your music is not in either protected WMA format or some other format that iTunes does not support? If you find that your files are protected WMAs then you can remove the protection by burning them to a disk with Windows Media Player and ripping them off again (using iTunes would be easiest). Alternatively there are programs around that will convert them, just Google. If you still need help after this then providing more information on the songs in question will help people help you.
  11. Immunisation/vaccination is where pathogens (albeit weakened ones) are given to people so that their immune system learns to defend against them. They don't weaken the immune system, they do exactly the opposite. The diseases that immunizations target are generally those that overwhelm even strong immune systems (i.e. can kill otherwise healthy people). These aren't bugs that take you out of school for a few days. In short, if you don't get them, you're daft (and are, infact, risking other people's health as well as your own). Without them, diseases like polio would still be rampant.
  12. Have you actually checked for yourself yet? 90% of computers say "Press to enter SETUP" when they are turned on. By far the most common key for desktop computers is Del(ete).
  13. You didn't mention your operating system, so I'll assume you're on XP. Depending on the operating system you can set file permissions so that only certain accounts can read/write/execute/etc. On XP Professional you can access this functionality by disabling "Simple File Sharing" in Tools -> Folder Options within Explorer. On XP Home you must boot into Safe Mode and logon to the Administrator account. Simply go to the Properties of a file or folder to set its permissions (under the Security tab). For both of these I would recommend using the Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit, which lets you put a whole range of restrictions on to different accounts with little to no fuss. Edit: I should also point out that it would not be wise to change the permissions on system files.
  14. Goto Device Manager (Start -> Run -> devmgmt.msc), right-click your sound card, goto Properties and ensure there are no conflicts listed under the "Resources" tab. Edit: And make sure your audio drivers are up-to-date, of course.
  15. So what if Hitler was nominated? In a time when Hitler was a figure of adoration in Germany it's hardly suprising that there was someone who wanted to nominate him. He didn't win it, and even the nomination was retracted. Out of 781 awarded prizes, 7 have been declined, 4 of which are commonly listed as people who have been forced to decline them (by governments, etc). So we get 3 people who have actually chosen to decline them. Out of 781. 0.38%. Loads?
  16. I didn't know of any embed tag :? For the thing you want, you need to use the tag .This can be dangerous if the wrong people use it so I recommend turning it on for specific forums which you only admins can post in. Just a thought. By the way, I have never heard of the embed tag but if it does exist then I am sorry. is an BBCode tag for using HTML in a forum post (on Invision forms anyway) is an HTML tag for embedding various objects (sounds, videos, flash, etc.) into a webpage Sorry, that was my mistake. I thought he wanted to make it in a post. Apoligies #-o He does. He'd have to do: (or similar)

  18. Homeless people don't always bring it on themselves, it's nowhere near as clear-cut as that. People become homeless for many reasons, as much as you may not like to hear that whilst you're busy feeling superior (sat, as you probably are, behind the computer your parents bought you). Some are victims of violent relationships, others have lost supporting family members and some fall ill themselves and can't pay the rent. None of these people brought it upon themselves. Even those who did "bring it on themselves" don't necessarily deserve to be homeless. It's not that difficult to get addicted to drugs/alcohol, and even less difficult to get that one loan too many and lose your home. If you think someone's entire life should be written off for relatively small mistakes, then all I can say is that I hope it happens to you (if only because it would save me filtering through your nonsense on these forums). [/anger] All that being said, giving money directly to homeless people is reasonably daft for reasons that should be obvious.
  19. Are you running Windows XP? If so then try the Shared Computer Toolkit from Microsoft. As well as giving you a large amount of software restrictions it also includes Windows Disk Protection, which undoes changes your to hard drive each time you restart the computer.
  20. A quick search on Google suggests that these files appear when a Java application crashes. Suggestions: - Download all available Windows updates - Update to the latest version of Sun Java Some more information would be helpful, such as where the file is, your Operating System, if you're using any Java applications and so on. - Java.com post mentioning this file. - Thread on DB Forums with various suggestions
  21. It does it faster the second time because it's already done most of it the first time. The problem is caused by programs writing to the disk while the defrag is running, hence Mercifull's advice. The % appears to be an accurate representation of how much of the disk has been defragmented.
  22. You probably have a a video card that supports multiple monitors but only have one monitor plugged in. Right-click your desktop, click Properties and go to the Settings tab. Select the invisible monitor, disable "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" and make sure the correct monitor is set as the primary monitor. Basically the same as the above, but you never said if you'd tried that or not.
  23. Yes it is the same thing. It's a program called Paint created by MicroSoft, hence "MS Paint".
  24. It's called MS Paint, not mcpaint. It can normally be found in Start -> Programs -> Accessories or Start -> Run -> mspaint -> OK. If you can't find it using either way then you will need to install it from the Windows Components section of Add/Remove Programs.
