  1. Well, I've done all of them and only started playing 20 months ago so many of them were done with the absolute minimum stats (and resources) necessary. This, I admit, has clouded my view of what is and what is not annoying, but I do have to say: One Small Favour - annoying? No way. That was fun. MEP2 was tough and annoying, but i do love that whole Tirannwn story line, so did not mind too much - I wanted it to be tough to keep as many out as possible. Sheep herder - others have said this was so annoying they put it off for a while - me too! :wall: However, it you want annoying. Really frustratingly, "Whop yr [wagon] and send you home, Ooh I'm poisoned (again), Yeah now you need another set of false teeth, No his aunt has seen you (again), Mind that trap!" mind-bogglingly rancid, my vote goes to the aptly named..... Monkey Madness #-o
  2. Everyone loves talking about themselves, so this is a great post. So, my turn, here goes... I sat there at the screen name prompt, and all of the LOTR names I could think of were either gone or not allowed. My mind went blank! I've read many hundreds of great novels and just couldn't think of a name. I then resorted to my youth and tried MattTheMod from the social 'tribe' with which I associated - not knowing what a Mod was in the game. Anyway this was not allowed. I did not want numbers, I wanted something clever and (hopefully) unique. From watching my son play I could see the pseudo-medieval theme and all I could think of at the time related to where I live. Bletchley is derived from the Saxon "Blecca's Ley". A ley is a clearing in the forest and Blecca was (one would suppose) the name of the leader of the tribe or family that settled there. So Blecca it was. BTW it is annoying that the guy near the sand pit in Zanaris has a similar name and yes, my came first!
  3. Hey Harrington, As it is such an attractive place; well constructed; with a thriving marketplace, a bank and now with the commuter link to Keldagrim, have you considered Dorgesh-kaan as an alternative location? (If you are not excited by this thought then please re-read my earlier comments regarding the location within Keldagrim - coastline, the Wildy and all that - do you agree and if so, then how about a graphical update?) Keep up the good work!
  4. I am beginning to understand Artificial_Doom_Flavor's viewpoint. I was ignorant of these arrangements between PKers and now see that they make sense. (Respect gained). Sausageman's original complaint though, surely, was with regard to the verbal complaints and other actions when these agreements are broken or thought to be broken. So, in order to enlighten me further (and this is a genuine request for information - no sarcasm intended), can Artificial_Doom_Flavor or someone with similar views tell me: if a non-PKer (such as an Abyss Runecrafter) comes into sight during one of these honour sessions does the honour-code extend to that one? If you answer YES: then fine - I walk away content. If you answer NO: then tell me - where is the honour in that?
  5. I can see that idea causing a great deal of debate and were it to happen I think that the scenes at Edgeville would make the next God Wars look like a tea party. What would you call such a clan?
  6. :P =D> Go Go Estarayella!! What a great plan - I'd love to see that (having been Abyss PK'ed too many times)
  7. EDIT - sorry guys I misread a post and have now scrubbed my hasty reply
  8. I enjoyed the article though without much understanding never having pked and I never will. Some of the debate though...what a load of pony! A pker is a murderer - where is there any honour in that? [No, do not reply - that was rhetorical] Some of the replies put me in mind of the Black Knight in Monty Python's 'Holy Grail' - they would reduce us all to skilless, weaponless, limbless bleeding idiots (oh, but with loads of loot). - Magic?-BAD; Prayer?-BAD; Agility?-BAD; Too much Strength?-BAD; Too much Defence?-BAD. Yeah, this reply is biased - i h8 all pkers.
  9. R U N E S C A P E <> C H R O N I C L E 5th April 2007 Special Edition TIP IT CREW ARRESTED AND CHARGED In a dramatic dawn raid this morning, the VGSP (Varrock Guard Secret Police) raided several locations over RuneScape and arrested five memebers of the notorious Tip-It Crew Gang. The gang members, famous for their daring exploits, were later charged with breaking-and-entering; theft; and crimes against comedy - contrary to the RuneScape Lore. An unnamed, but shabbily dressed, spokesman for the VGSP gave a statement to the Chronicle earlier today, saying: 'We have been watching these gangsters for quite a while now and it was only a matter of time before we tracked them down...they have been charged in connection with data theft from a secret installation. I cannot say anymore until the matter is tried in court, but I can tell you that an incriminating piece of evidence was left at the scene of the crime.' Chronicle sources within the legal profession have revealed that so-called 'DNA evidence' has been used, in conjunction with the mysterious Vyrewatch (some sort of blood specialist organisation) to identify a small drop of blood left at the site - believed to have resulted from misuse of a thumbdrive espionage device. The arrested Tip-It crew members could face jail sentences of up to 3 hours, if found guilty. C H R O N I C L E <> E D I T O R I A L Tip-It crew, as you languish in your jail cells, answer me this - Are you trying to ruin this great game? Using your RuneScape-given skills and equipment to raid chez-Andy? What a disgrace. Do you not realise that those people at Jagex can read! They will see what you have done and all of those great updates that you described will now be cancelled. :wall:  :x ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Seriously though guys - great article, loved it - i almost REALLY did lol. Must ask though - why did you not take imp boxes and simply tele all the incriminating stuff to your swiss bank accounts?
  10. Well... there's a river flowing through the place, so it's not that illogical. Besides, it could be deep underground inside of a mountain lol. The existence of trees and fact flooring turns from stone/dirt into sand says otherwise. Plus even if that could happen vital floor is keldagrim is in the icey mountain regions Thoose trees and ground types wouldn't exsist that far north PLUS the eastern side of keldagrim would be facing towards wilderness, there is no coean there if u look at world map. I like the whole idea the keldagrim thing just seems obsurd. Perhaps guild building inside the city itself, bwith its own private cart track tht leads to a hidden forest in mountainy areas dwarves found. There you get no outdoor/indoor issues and still have the same features Please see my post in this regard....(It's just up the previous page). I think that I show here that the beach (and therefore: The Guild) could be on northern coast. And the question of flora? - Well the micro-climate could be explained by heat from magma chamber or volcanic vents - thereby allowing exotic trees etc.
  11. I'm glad this post is still active as it is interesting, exciting and well-informed (is the cheque in the post? ) However, I have carefully mapped out the location of Keldagrim and consequently have to point out one serious misgiving with the proposed location: The key clue as to where Keldagrim lies is obtained from the ice troll cave north-west of the Ice Gate (as used in Troll Romance quest). From here you can 'see' through the rock to the south-west corner of Keldagrim. The cave entrance is at 11 degrees 56 minutes East Keldagrim is approximately 122 RS squares east to west, which is roughly 3 minutes 54 seconds, so... This places Keldagrim between: Trollweis Mountain in the east; Trollheim in the south; the Ice Path to the north; and the wilderness in the east (around the Forgotten Cemetery). Therefore, and regrettably, I have to inform you that your proposed beach would be in the Wildy! Between the cemetery and the Chaos Alter. All is not lost however. The RS map has a blanked-out area north of Ice Path just waiting for an update. Keldagrim River flows from beneath the tarn north of the Troll Stronghold (a lake with no obvious outfall - therefore feeding an underground stream?) and exits Keldagrim flowing northwards, towards the sea. So may I suggest that the guild be placed a short boat ride north along the river instead? Maybe we can have Ice Dragons?
  12. Keldagrim location looking good dude. Please remember to take out that funny bit west of the mine carts though
  13. Excellent! :D This is very exciting and I shall follow its development closely. BTW, I'm not nit-picking, but.... Well, think of Zanaris (not too long, that place is crazy) trees grow there.
  14. I've taken the liberty of transplanting your proposed Guild to Keldagrim, with the dragons in a dungeon beneath. I have left the grass green so it stands out (of course I'm not lazy). What do you think? (NB If using these images has upset anyone, or broken any rules, then I am sorry for that)
  15. Count me in. Great post and well reasoned. Couple of comments: I hoped I'd be the first to suggest this as I think it a grand idea. :( Keldagrim would tie in the dragons too. Dwarves and dragons tend to occupy roughly the same space after all - maybe a mini-dungeon beneath the guild? As for the tree 'problem'...well the dwarves do have an excellent transportation system in place - mining trucks, and then there's the river too: that must go somewhere surely? Your idea could incorporate an at-surface dwarf station that buys logs off players and transports them underground. Now this would need some extra reasoning as dwarves tend to build from stone rather than timber, but [garden tool]-hum. I would also like to see player-owned market stalls in the guild forecourt (open to non-guild members) where we could sell those surplus bits of furniture. As for glass - well, there is the possibility of forging obsidian glass from magma deep underground (fanciful), or just using wood ash (medieval glass used potash which is derived from wood ash [rather than the in-game soda-ash, which is not really used for glass-making] ). So (in order to avoid upsetting the balance with rarity of seaweed) maybe guild includes method of extracting potash from wood ash? Alternatively, maybe a potash mine at the guild? (Yes they do exist in the real world, there is one in Thailand methinks). Or soda-ash mine to keep it simple. You asked: planking experience to wc or con. Con - definitely. Any road up - thanks dude...great post, keep at it!
  16. Someone with no skills at all ;) Cute for the logic, but I'm going to risk being cheesey: A Saradomin skiller will raise those skills that are necessary to face the challenges ahead. [Please note: I do not include myself in this category]
  17. Although not a follower of Guthix, (or any of the gods for that matter: they give me what I need but they are, I guess all former D&D player characters, or some such.. *shut up and get on with it*), I do follow the same path as this article lays out. So thank you Ard. It is warming to know that others value skill balance. I do find repetition repetition repetition repetition boring, and work on groups of skills at a time to raise them. Right now I am based in Al-Kharid, stealing from the Enchanter's garden (Thieving and Farming) mixed in with a farming round to gather herbs and white berries (Herblore and Farming). I'll get bored of this soon and go back to my Slayer tasks, probably using Ranging skills, or maybe the Shade Temple (Crafting, Firemaking, Prayer, Combat and the often necessary cash). I understand why others would want to pure or skill and respect that. Let them get on with it. For me (and others, I am happy to say) though, Questing and skill balance is what it is all about. Oh, and the standard deviation of my skill levels? - 7.3 - nowhere near as good as Ard_Choille's 5.9, so something else to aim at :)
  18. Interesting Ed, though you should read Boromir's comments. On the matter of losing gear during random events whilst hunting, I would note the following: As an incentive to raise my level, I have been regularly checking it before and after logging on. I have noticed that my level has, on several occasions, risen whilst I have been logged-off. I reason that this must be due to Jagex banning scripters. So, whilst I agree that there have been many many random events during huinting and that it is annoying to lose four magic boxes to help Pete sort his coffins (again!) it is all valuable in the on-going fight against cheats.
  19. In my experience there are three types of beggars and each type should be treated accordingly. (Thus avoiding some of the blanket remedies suggested earlier): 1) Players in genuine need, who are in mortal danger or 'stuck' somehwere and who beg for help 2) Players who beg for guidance (such as, "Please take me to Catherby") 3) Lazy gits who want something for nothing. (I think that this is the class that most posts have been referring to) How to deal with them? 1) Help them and expect nothing back. 2) Use discernment and help those genuine in their need. Rebuke the purely lazy and point out the existance of the KBase. 3) The remedy here is simple:- "BEG OFF!" :) btw - regarding an earlier post about teleporting beggars to Waterbirth. Isn't it true that they can only be teleported there if they have done Relleka Trials Quest? Can't see a beggar bothering with that.
  20. I enjoyed the article. It's stirred a lively debate too - thank you. I would not like to see Cooking split into two skills. I think too that RScape have the right idea in gradually improving the rewards for pies, pizzas etc. to redress the balance away from fish, but remember that fishing is related to an adventurer-type existance, not the settled lifestyle of farmers and bakers. A guild is an association of people of the same skill or craft, formed to protect mutual interests and maintain standards of workmanship and ethical conduct. So I agree that the cooking guild needs a serious overhaul. I would like to see different floors - accessible with higher levels - wherein you can learn/cook some new foodstuffs: items that further redress the balance the article describes. The ability would be exclusive to the guild (and maybe POHs) and some of the ingredients could be grown/bought at the guild too. Someone else mentioned herb-like foods. Maybe the guild could have a grudge against Herblorists and so ban the use of Herbs within the guild, but promote their own style of beneficial foods (rather like the contest here in the UK at the end of the C19th, between the quacks and the herblorists over medicine - which the quacks won, incidentally, later forming the British Medical Council) Anyway, happy cooking!
  21. Once i read this i had to get outa bed and write more... Do you realize how many members are there? tell u truth i dont either but when we have; and ill check this now, 61 give or take servers with 1000 members in each do the math... thats alot 1000 x 5 x 61 and the money comes rolling in.... you right tho about we pay for them... but without them we'd be nothing (high lvls) who does all that work pickin flax, new members (this part didnt come out as planned) and who mines all the ess for us when we're to lazy to, free (this did but with the new puure ess not sure anymore)... One thing you didnt mention krytie was what about the non members who never come members... you said put a cap on them as in what? telling them to pay or the stop playing? you cant do that cuz this game is so good! Like i said in the post above we members jsut hit our 100th quest and already one or two already came out so 102 vs. the boring (checking how many now) 18 what is that... Well, wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runescape) says: ...nearly nine million active free players and 800,000 paying members...
  22. I agree with this post. I have been playing for a year and have done all of the quests. I completed Devious Minds on 6th April - the last quest then available to me- having done them all inside 9 months and with a maximum combat level of 83 (rather lower for MEP2, but cannot remember what for sure). I did all of the hard quests with low to medium levels and without fancy armour, weapons and friends. This is not a virtue - it's just the way I enjoyed it. I love hard quests. The harder the better. Yes I fell of those handholds, what? thirty or forty times. But I carried on and completed MEP2 and was proud to have done so. I love that parts of runescape and some equipment are for elite players. Something to aim for and then to enjoy. Oh and by the way - IT'S BORING to keep ranting on about 'poor editors articles'. Please, either put-up (interesting contributions) or shut up. :boohoo:
  23. craigevil wrote: ..and i agree. I liked the article and agree that prayers need high level spicing-up. However, for the integrity of the game - PLEASE, no more armour types! I mean to say: in Middle English myth (as detailed by Tolkein) Adamantite is 'an imagined hard substance'. You must have seen LoTR and noticed how good a Mithril mail is. In RS, however, we have Rune, Dragon and Barrows (whatever are they made from?) armour, which are all better than these. On top of this we have granite and crystal waiting in the wings! Instead of this, how about magical enchanting of armour to raise stats? Such an improvement would enable only higher level players to wear the best stuff and would remove the need to add yet more types. Bottom line...good article...yes more high level prayers...no more armour...and YES - we ALL need something to aim at otherwise it's not a game, it's just hard work.
  24. There have been mixed comments in reply to this article: some people agree with the sentiment, whilst others found it fairly boring. I am firmly in the former camp. I dig quests and all they entail and found the article enjoyable and reassuring. I have been playing for 11 months now and had completed all the quests there were after about 8 months I was that keen on them. I saw (and still see) others of similar levels and below who were/are much richer (in GP terms) than me and realised that one of RuneScape's great strengths is that it caters for all sorts of tastes - Purers. mad-rush Levellers, Adventurers, Merchanters and even (spit) PKers - what a great game. I too look forward to the Moon Clan quest and hope that the new fairy quest might rid us of those annoying episodes in Zanaris. Thanks Mr Editor!
