  1. You'll rarely be able to run a windows machine for more than a few days without incurring at least a few minor problems from keeping it on that long. Other oses that are designed for that sort of thing (linux, probably windows server) can handle months easily.

  2. Well. The official beta is really nice. Very basic, but it works well. The thing I did notice was that the voice chat didn't suck like most of the other networks. It was actually much clearer than a phone. Also, it's nice that it works with all major multi-network im clients like gaim :)

  3. Dual booting should do what you want assuming I understand you correctly. With dual booting, you have 2 OSes on 2 different harddrives or partitions. So, when you turn on your computer, you pick your particular OS and you kind of have your own copy of the computer. First, how many harddrives do you have, and how many copies of windows? I'm not that familiar with the windows licencing stuff but I think you'll need 2 copies of windows to dual boot. If this sounds good, we can guide you through the process, and I'm sure there's a good tutorial out there.

hehe, where abouts is the write-protection switch?

lol how are we supposed to know? you havn't told us what mp3 player you have :P

look in your manual and/or take a close look at the player for any switches and buttons

    He gave the site. http://cnmemory.de

They apparently have downloadable PDFs to look at. Additionally, it appears that it just acts like a removable drive, where you copy and paste MP3s from Explorer, like a Creative MuVo. (Except it uses more generic drivers).

It also may just be that your MP3 files are damaged, if you got them off of KaZaa or a similar P2P service. I have a damaged MP3 of Bachman Turner Overdrive's "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" and it works fine in Winamp, since Winamp pwns, and the fact that the computer has processing power to spare to try and repair and subsequently play the MP3 file on the fly. But with an MP3 player, damaged files just don't play (in my experience, anyway.) Or, it could be that the bitrate is so low that it doesn't play at the correct speed. My MP3 player only does 32 Kbps 22Khz MP3s and up, so when I tried to play a 24Kbps, 11Khz mp3, it played slowly, and detected the length incorrectly.

It could also be that your mp3s are all incorrectly encoded using VBR (Variable Bit Rate). And just so you know, VBR sucks. I have another MP3 ("White Wedding") that is VBR, and Winamp incorrectly detects the length and my MP3 player doesn't play it correctly.

So it sounds like MP3 corruption may be your problem. Get DBPowerAMP and rip a CD, then try putting those on your MP3 player. If those work, then your MP3s are mildly corrupted, and you should get them from somewhere that is reputable, like MP3Search, a russian music site. And before anybody screams "OMFGWTF!!11111 russhien muzak is teh ill3gal!" read this, and you'll see that it is.

Actually, VBR is superior to flat rate encoding and it makes much more sense. When you need higher bitrate, it's supplied and when you don't the bitrate drops. If you encode an mp3 with a bad encoder, you can have problems with any type of encoding including VBR, but with a decent encoder, VBR is the best possible encoding (for size and quality). I find that a lot of p2p networks (especially bittorrent) are flooded with very LOW quality VBR files. VBR can be encoded at different qualities like any other mp3, and if done at a reasonable quality, it's great. Most of my mp3s are VBR (many encoded by myself with LAME) and I've neevr had a problem with any of my 4 (all different brands) mp3 players (plus the mp3 deck in my car and winamp) ever having issues with playing them or displaying their correct length.

  5. k i formatted and re-installed the older version of win XP... I started to update my windows... got to sp2 to instal then BAM it starting to bluescreen me again. So now the problem lies within SP2. :S

Did you install windows and then IMMEDIATELY go to windows update without doing anything else (short of setting up internet access). If you do it that way, then you shouldn't have a problem...

  6. Okay, I see AOL and Runescape in the topic and it sounds like you just messed your computer up for life (AOL).

    Here's what you do...

You download the RS client from the main site, then you can run it like normal.

If you can't get anything other than AOL, your RS days *may* be over.

How about helping him instead of bashing AOL? Spam isn't appreciated...

  7.

If you're talking to me, improve your english and read the post again becasue i'm obviously not talking to you.

Now if the poster could, as I requested, add some useful information as per the stickie I sugested, someone might be able to help.

  8. Sort of like abandonware. If you stopped selling it 8 years ago, and there's no way for someone to buy it legally and in any way give you any money or benefit, then you have no right to stop people from pirating it. It's not completel legal, but the few gaming companies who cared removed their software from the abandonware sites in a peaceful manner.

  9. That is BS about not worrying about the case. If you want a high end PC to overheat, then by all means get some generic POS.

Cliffs: NEVER cheap out on the case. Like putting weatherboard on a * 20mil mansion...

    I agree 100%!!!

If the case isn't designed properly, the fans won't do much as far as cooling. I got a cheap case and the 2 front fan vents don't lead outside the case! *smacks head* and the rear slots are so badly placed, the fan probably generates more heat than it removes (well... thats an exageration but still). It's not necessary to get a few hundred dollar case, but do make sure it's high quality.

  10.

And this isnt related to piracy in what way? :-/

Bittorrent is the one p2p standard that can claim to have legit uses without bending the truth at all. You should really know this... quite popular way for sites with very little bandwidth to host files...

I do know this, bus as i suspected he's using it to download anime cartoons ;)

You dont download work stuff to home computer, theres serious security implications there. Especially using bit torrent when in theory anyone could download it if they knew the torrent location.

Its also a common misconception that unlisensed fansubbed anime is legal to download, you are wrong. Contrary to your belief, its still illegal. ;)

See, he still has at least one legit use!

  11. calc.org and ticalc.org

all you'll ever need. I have days worth of games in mine. good way to get through boring classes

over here ti-89's are very popular. my old highschool participated in a ton of math competitions that allowed ti-89s. many of those had questions that could easily be solved with the equation solver, so if you didn't have an 89 you were at a big disadvantage...
