ok I bought this laptop and I want to re install windows. The only problem is that I don't have a copy, just whats on the computer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Microsoft needs to be stopped. I am wasting time trying to figure out where to find something that I purchased. WTH.

It's the OEM you bought the laptop from that should be cursed this time, not Microsoft. It is the distributor's job to give you the CD.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Call/email whichever company you bought the laptop from and ask them for a re-installation CD. Most of them will send them out for free. HP did for my laptop after a simple support email asking for one and I've had people with Dells get the same thing.

If you have your own license number just dont have the CD then you can just use a friends cd to install it.

ya but the only thing is you have to go threw the hassle of activating it and when i did i had to call Microsoft get them to deactivate the key from the old comp then reactivate for the same comp just a new install took at least 3hours or so

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

but then again it was worth it

Calling MS isnt that big a hassle, only took me a few minutes to activate.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

remember that if the cd only has service pack 1 then DONT connect to the internet without a firewall. otherwise you'll get hit by the blaster worm and you'll probably be better off reinstalling again rather than trying to fix it.

Mercifull, meant if the laptop has a product key on it, as using the key from another computer is both illegal and silly. Silly as you still need a OS for the old/other pc. Illegal as Microsoft generate the key code (the code you dont normally see) based on the computer hardware. Using the same product key more then once (if its a single computer code) will display the conterfit software notice and really annoy you.

 

 

 

Either go linux or buy windows. Although who ever sold it to you should supply you with windows if the laptop stated it came with windows.

Like I said in my last reply to this, contact the manufacturer, tell them you need to reinstall windows and that you don't have any restore discs for it. They will more than likely send you a set for free.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Shunning the simplest method of fixing this isn't going to get you very far.

Surely you have at least one friend thats got a Windows CD? Otherwise the only solution is to call up the company you bought your computer from. Its quite simple.
