Marco
Nothing to do with getting Xp or the best way to go to level 'x'. Just wondering what I should bear in mind when building new rooms in my house. I've heard a lot of people saying they've wasted millions of Gp building and filling a room only to find they've messed up the plans somehow and need to re-arrange their house. Are there any rules on where to place certain rooms which I need to know? And if anyone's got a picture of a decent house plan then it'd be nice if you could post it. :
Syd
You should make chapel, portal and maybe study next to portal. That will save you alot of time laters. :

Marco
I know there are some house designers out there (like Runehq's and the one you posted above) but it doesn't really help out much until I know what rooms should be in what places in the first place. :| But thank you for posting that one, I'll use it when I figure out this first part. Just need some help on the general placement of the rooms.
shurikennin
if you are barrowing i suggest the portal next to the chapel ,the portal room and the quest hall close toit Dude, you're an idiot #-o Dude, your feeble attempt at an insult is hilarious. ... rhan_wolf
Well i just started making my house, and im pretty sure that untill you get to a fairly high lvl you wont really lose that much money by destroying the rooms youve already made, as they dont caontain anything that valuable. If you have already gotten to a medium to high lvl i dont know what to say, except make the chapel close to your portal. ------------------------sword metal.com

Jake_Corsair
Someone should just post a picture of the most functional house for others to copy then we wont waste money furnishing til we get it right the first time. lol Actually there is a thread that has that...I'll see if I can find it again. EDIT: Found it here But like others have said, put the rooms you'll use most nearest to your portal. For Barrowing - you'll want your chapel and Kharyll(sp) portal room close. If you do a lot of abyss runecrafting and want to tele to house to use a glory instead of carrying one - place a quest hall near the portal. I also placed my costume room and another portal room next to my entrance portal. Most other rooms won't require a "lot" of running back and forth too, so placing them further away won't matter too much. Take a look through the Knowledge Base, and see what rooms you'll actually use a lot. If Jagex ever made a perfect update, there would be players complaining about nothing to complain about.[hide=My Stats][/hide]
mbrun
The best design is not always the best looking (symetrically). I have a design with the following in mind: Most of basic rooms on the main floor. Portal Chamber, chapel, study, quest hall, skill halls all within one room of the garden/exit portal. Portal Chamber with Canafis bar teleport next to Chapel. Dining room and kitchen near workshop for quick access to servant (tea, supplies, entertaining. Games room and combat rooms near each other Study near portal so friends can make tele tablets quickly. Quest hall near garden/exit portal for quick tele to Edgeville. Will try to post pic when i get to my home pc. Total cost for 20 rooms: 832k gp Throne room, 2 combat rooms, games room, 3 portal chambers, quest hall, parlour, formal garden, 2 bedrooms, costume room, study, garden, skill hall, workshop, dining room, kitchen, chapel. Barrows Drops: Guthan's platelegs and War Spear, Dharok's plate body and Great Axe, Verac's Flail, Verac's Helm x 2, Ahrim's top, Dharok's plate legs Dragon Drops: Medium Helm x 4, Shield Left Half, plate legs x 2, skirt x 2. mchainmail
also, depending on where the doors are on the chapel can change if the altar faces you as you walk in or if you see it's side.
Marco
Okay, so I see it's best to have a Chapel and Portal rooms as close to the entrance as possible. I don't quite understand one thing about the Skill Halls though.. Taking Axe Man Jack's house as an example; Why the 3 Skill Halls in a row going north? I though Skill Halls were only there to show off items, and had no real use so why have 3? :-s
mchainmail
Skill halls have all 4 sides "open" allowing you to access the adjacent rooms more easily.
