Ctrl+W is CLOSE tab. Ctrl+Shift+W is CLOSE window.

 

 

 

Ctrl+T is OPEN new tab. Ctrl+N is OPEN new window.

Okay, you know the shortcut to open a new window in your browser (which is also usually Ctrl+T anyway). Not everyone has your browser, and the majority of the people who will already know the shortcuct.
