I would think the purpose is irrelevant, runescape rules clearly state

"This includes automation tools, macros, bots, or auto-typers."

Pretty definite no methinks

And rules change/interpreted so find out and pm me in tipit when u do lol.

Many people do it without asking, your a true player and ask before doing it.

It is unfourtianly illegal and you must type untill you have carpotunnel to get rc levels <.<

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

If you are talking about what I think you are, where you record key presses and then press the macro button to repeat them, then I am pretty sure it is allowed, as long as you don't spam, manually press the button, and you are still at the computer.

No What you have described would definitely be considered illegal.

Jagex says

I think it is fairly explicit and indicates that anything with a "macro" button would (Could?) be deemed illegal for sure

no it is not illegal, Jagex cannot take legal action against you for macroing, but they reserve the right to ban you/ warn you/ suspend you because it is against there rules

Jagex can only legally charge you if you stole confedential information, destroyed a server or w/e
