Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Has anyone else heard about this upcoming game? Apparantly the player controls an assassin under the command of Darth Vader to destroy a bunch of Jedi Knights, taking place inbetween episodes III and IV. Here are a couple of bullets about the game:

 

 

 

During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.

 

 

 

Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible:

 

The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls - he'll Force push enemies through walls.

 

The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside - he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb.

 

 

 

Decisions made by players throughout the game will determine the path of the story, including multiple endings that will rock Star Wars continuity as they know it.

 

 

 

The Force Unleashed is LucasArts' first internally developed title for next-generation consoles

 

As to the last point, I wonder if that means you can do some lightsabering on the wiimote? It seems like when they talk about taking advantage of next-gen consoles, its purely cosmetic but who knows. I think it's slated for a spring 08 release.

I can just picture that 'lightsaber kid' when talking about those movement-sensitive controls for console games.. that would be hilarious.

 

 

 

I'm a bit disappointed that the game is console-only. I've wanted a replacement for Jedi Academy for a long time; even though it is somewhat new, it really didn't add that much fresh content to the game. I'd like to see something on a totally different engine, with more maneuverability and control. The game itself sounds pretty cool, focusing more around force powers than slashing up people. Sounds a bit lame, "lore" wise, though - sounds like the guy is nearly as powerful as the Emperor. Some apprentice that can force grip someone and then make them explode? The only person we saw do that (and the person didn't explode..) was Dooku, and he had been a Jedi for ~60 some years.

 

 

 

Lore aside, I'd like to play it sometime. I still wish they'd release an FPS/RPG-type game for PC sometime, preferably with multiplayer content. I never had more fun in a game than in JK2 and Jedi Academy - force jumping with someone gripped and throwng them into a pit? What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon...
