gokillu
Hi, for some reason my computer won't let me download anything, at all. It just happened recently where whenever i try to download anything my computer pulls up this "Internet explorer encountered a problem and needs to close" screen and the interent doesn't download, and instead closes. I don't think its the firewall seeing as how it used to let me download stuff, and this all started like 2 weeks ago when i've had the same Mcaffee system guard for over a year at least. Can somebody help me troubleshoot please? Anything is appreciated. If you need system specs you will need to tell me how to find them. THanks! zonda
Have you changed anything that could be causing the problem? What version of windows are you running? Is your windows updated? What version of internet explorer are you using? ...

You should be able to download it again from the Microsoft website. I'd like to ask, however, if you have any other browsers installed on your computer? zonda
Go in Internet Explorer, click "help" and then about. Let me know what version your running. Obviously your computer can download some stuff, otherwise you wouldn't be able to view this page. Try downloading "HiJackThis" (It should be in one of the stickies around here, if not run a search for it) Then run a scan and post it here, its pretty simple and selfexplanitory. Can you still access the MS website to download windows updates? ...

zonda
Get rid of McAfee.. #-o I suggest using AVG Virus Scan. google it. This won`t solve your problem but do it anyway :(. good idea, get rid of the perfectly fine antivirus that is paid for and go download something else. Great advice, I commend you nearly as much as those who have the answer to all problems: reformat. Now back to the problem, gokillu is it fixed? ... mastermule52
Get rid of McAfee.. #-o I suggest using AVG Virus Scan. google it. This won`t solve your problem but do it anyway :(. They should pay users to use McAfee, not the other way around. AVG is definitely the way to go. But don't uninstall it if it isn't your computer. ;-) And for sure don't uninstall anything until you get the other installed, or at LEAST downloaded. mastermule52
Of course, why must forums always be filled with people who hate on things because its the cool thing to do. OMG WINDOWS IS GHEY OMG MAC IS GHEY OMG LINUX IS GHEY I only speak from what I have experienced. This is that I have yet to find someone who is satisfied with their service they receive from McAfee. I don't "hate on it" because "it's cool." For the record, I don't personally use AVG. However, it is free, and it is fairly low hassle. I know it's non-free version is not worth the money, either. Windows is not "ghey," it certainly has it's purposes. Like any OS, it has it's upsides and downsides. Same with Mac, same with Linux. You needn't flame me because we disagree. :-) ----------- Back on topic, I also was wondering if you're actually ABLE to update, or if that crashes it too? I use McAfee (dads in the army so we get it for free) and I've never had a problem with it. Go in Internet Explorer, click "help" and then about. Let me know what version your running. Can you still access the MS website to download windows updates? not to be a bummer but didn't he say he can't download anything? (other than the obvious, of course.) I'm not sure how he'd get HiJackThis. Do you have another PC or know someone with one where you could possibly bring over a CD and write Hijackthis and perhaps even firefox on it? Only reason I state Firefox is to see if the problem is with IE only or just in general.
Ashlyn_Hart
Have you checked for viruses? You say you have McAfee, but have you made sure it's still working? Do a manual virus scan, it might help. Also, if you ever get back to where you can download stuff again, I highly recommend d/l Ad Aware. It's a free spyware killer. I do it at least twice a month. Gets rid of cookies too. I'm a married mother that plays RuneScape. Got a problem with that?
