If you want a barrows set effect, you need the weapon that corrosponds with the armor. If you're getting a set with a different weapon, you're better off getting a whip and rune defender. Depending on what your doing with it, you might want to get different sets. Guthans is good for long term training, and Veracs is good for KQ hunting.

If you can afford it go for guthans. I just got mine today, and I am loving it. You don't need any food and you don't have to bank half as much when training.

You'll have to provide us with more detail into what you're looking for. If you're going for Range, you'll need Karils. If you want mage bonuses, you'll want Ahrims. As for melee.. well that's completely based on what you're looking for.

If you want cheap and high defense, go with Torags armour. Skip the hammers, because they pretty much stink.

If you want big damage, go for Dharoks; however, you'll need to learn how to stay alive with it at low HP. You'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

If you want to minimize your food usage and don't care about cost; Guthans of course! For Guthans, however, I'd suggest doubling up and having possibly Rune/Dragon/Torags armour to go with it, and just strap on Guthans when it's time to heal.

If you plan on doing any serious Barrowing or KQ slaying, go for Veracs. It hits right through prayer with it's special effect.

If you're trying to get high strength, go for Dharok's. Only use it in a safe place though >_>.

Just imagine hitting a 40 and getting 320 xp for it.

Also good for staking.
