runescape on ps3?

Featured Replies

This will prob. get me flamed into next week but oh well. I hope this is the right place for it, if not please move it.

Anyways, i bought a ps3, and then my laptop broke. Im saving to fix it or get a new one but kinda drained due to buying the ps3. I dont know much about computers or that sort of thing, just a warning lol. I have heard its possible to play rune on a ps3, but the current os doesn't support it. I read somewhere that yellow dog linix works, but you have to know linix commands. I have never used linix before at all, infact nothing other than windows. So i was wondering if someone knows a way to get rune to run on a ps3, or maybe a little help with yellow dog. Maybe even someone here that plays rune on there 3 :-k Thanks in advance

P.S. before you flame me about having a ps3 and wanting to play rune on it, there is no games for ps3 worth buying atm, and looks like it will be a few months wait for a decent game. So i thought i might as well use the ps3 for something lol

Flaming is against the rules. People wont flame you for no reason :)

To answer your question, I think Runescape would look really bad on a PSP. Runescape has way to much details to display on a PSP, you would never be able to do anything. (I meen, think of clicking the 'inventory' button, which is quite small on a computer screen. What would the size be on a PSP?)

I dont think it is worth it. Even if you would download all the hosts and programs to run Runescape, it would be useless.

On top of that, you dont have a mouse with you, you only have the Left,right,above,under,L1,R1,and some other twist buttons, Id say dont try it.

PS3, not a PSP woop.

I don't know if the PS3 actually supports java or not, I'm leaning on it doesn't.

If it doesn't than it would be impossible.

In order to run any Java application (like RuneScape) it needs to be run on a JVM (Java Virtual Machine.)

Works like this:

Normal games:

GAME <==> Video Drivers / OS <==> GPU/GRAM

Java programs:

GAME <==> JVM <=(OS)=> GPU/GRAM

. . . . . . . . . . | | . . . . . . . . . . . . | |

. . . . . . . . . . L_=> Drivers <==̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâù_|

The game only interacts with the JVM. Now, as Java becomes more advanced they are beginning to interface with the drivers and via JVM, but they tend to stay away from that in an effort to achieve universalism (being able to run on any machine.)

So, the JVM on Windows is different than the JVM for Linux. But if you have an OS that already interfaces with the GPU and a JVM (like many Linux distro's do) then you CAN run Java applets, so you could run RuneScape.

So yes, putting a Linux distro on it will make it possible to run RuneScape, just know that it may be a pain in the [neck] to get it working right.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the replies. If its as hard as it sounds i might just skip the idea. I heard that sony might be having an update that would make it able to run on the ps3, not because of rune but because of other programs. So ill prob. cross my fingers on that for now as i really don't want the head ache of linix lol
