June 20, 200719 yr When a teacher can't even give a crying student an empathic hug or even a pat on the shoulder because they might lose their job on account of paranoiac parents and administration, you know there's something terribly wrong with the system. I disagree. When the risk of paedophilia is such that restricting physical contact between students and teachers occurs, there's something terribly wrong with the system.
June 20, 200719 yr I disagree. When the risk of paedophilia is such that restricting physical contact between students and teachers occurs, there's something terribly wrong with the system. Is it such a high risk, though, seeing as this contact should be in view of witnesses? There are regulations in place saying that a teacher must not be alone with a student without another teacher present or readily accessible, and without their head of department's permission - and that, at least, makes sense. The other does sound like a lot of overreaction, as far as I'm concerned. Varrock Library: Shattered Sky | Silent Thunder | The Emperor's FinestAstri @ MythWeavers
June 20, 200719 yr The need for regulations like that is exactly my point. It can happen. Anyways, youngers students are willing to break rules if a teacher allows it and the threat of being fired is probably not enough to deter possible paedophiles from breaking a few rules to seduce a child.

June 20, 200719 yr Meh, I've been working as a cub scout leader for two years now, and some of the panic is pretty ridiculous. One afternoon there were only two leaders around and one of the kids got a busted lip. We had to take all 20 kids into the kitchen because rules state that a leader can't be alone with a kid to avoid suspicions, and we couldn't let them play on unsupervised either. Oh, and for the record, we occasionally play the exact same game described in the original post, only with scarfs.
