So, you want to kill a Mith Dragon AND finish Otto's Tasks?

Introduction

Mithril Dragons along with Barbarian Training was added July 3rd 2007. These Dragons are level 304 and use a combination of attack styles. In this guide I will show you how to kill these beasts and finishing Otto's tasks.

Using verac will no longer work now.

Requirements

Skill Requirements to begin (The higher the combat the better)

  •
    [*:1medrvtd] Level 21 Firemaking OR

[*:1medrvtd] Level 48 Fishing and level 15 Strength and Agility OR

[*:1medrvtd] Level 55 Fishing and level 35 Strength

You must learn from Otto skills of Barbarians to be able to get into the dungeon.

Here is what you will learn.

  1.
    [*:1medrvtd]Fishing without a harpoon

    [*:1medrvtd]Burn logs without a tinderbox

    [*:1medrvtd]Fish using a Barbarian Rod

[*:1medrvtd]Put parts of fish into potions that will heal you when drank

[*:1medrvtd]Make a 1-handed spear. Also called a Hasta. (must complete Tai Bwo Wanni Trio Quest)

How to get access to dungeon/finishing tasks.

Before you head off to the Grotto here are some things you will want to take.

These items are only to get into the dungeon. These are all the items needed to finish all the tasks up to Funeral Pyre Ships.

  •
    [*:1medrvtd] Camelot teleports

    [*:1medrvtd] Woodcutting Axe

[*:1medrvtd] Any kind of strung bow.

    [*:1medrvtd] About 50 Fishing Bait

[*:1medrvtd] Attack potion that is 2-dose

    [*:1medrvtd] An Oak log

    [*:1medrvtd] Knife

After you have all those items follow the map to get to Otto's Grotto.

map1zu1.png

When you first talk to Otto he will say "Good day, you seem a hearty warrior. Maybe even some barbarian blood in that body of yours"

Then tell Otto " You think so?" Otto then will ask you if you are ready to learn our more secret tribal feats for yourself.

Your player will automatically respond that it sounds interesting and asks what sort of skills would there be.

Otto will supply you knowledge in the ways of firemaking, special rod fishing tricks, and a selection of spear skills.

Your player will ask if there are more advanced stages to judge by Otto's description.

Otto will talk about he will eventually teach you about more advanced fire making techniques and the rod fishing skills are but a preliminary to our special potions and brews. Then will tell you those secrets must, however, wait until you have learned of the more basic skills.

Now ask Otto about harpoons, fishing rods, and fire making. I will tell you here about each of the 3.

Harpoons: Otto will tell you about harpooning without using a weak harpoon. You will use your fingers as bait and then grab the fish right out of the water. This will work with Tuna, Swordfish, and Sharks.

Fishing Rods: Here you will use a special Barbarian Rod. It can be found by searching the bed in Otto's Grotto. Then walk outside and make sure you have some bait with you and catch fish there.

Firemaking: You will learn how to burn logs without using a tinderbox. To do this you will use a strung bow. Lighting the logs is just like it is with a tinderbox, just use your logs with your strung bow and your player will light them on fire. To complete light 1 oak log.

Take your fish you got from harpooning and rod fishing and talk to Otto again. Otto will talk about using the salmon that you caught and that when you use a knife on the fish you will get caviar or roe. This can be put into 2-dose potions and when drank you get the effect of the potion and you will be healed! Roe goes into basic potions and caviar will work in any potion.

Otto then asks for an attack potion with roe in it. If you brought an attack potion with you then good. If not go make one and drink one dose of it so it will be 2-doses. Then use a knife on the salmon and get roe. Put that into the attack potion and go speak to Otto again.

On all of these tasks if you have done it right you will get a message looking like this.

f_Message1m_a0571f7.png

Now you should learn about sacrificing the spirits. Now you have 2 options you can continue on with this or you can go fight Mith dragons!

Sacrificing Spirit: After talking to Otto walk over to the dock and jump into the whirlpool. Walk down the stairs and search the cavern for barbarians. Kill one. You should get mangled bones. If you don't keep killing until you get the bones. Then teleport out of there. Now go to the bank and grab a strung bow, an axe, your bones, and an oak log. Go back to Otto and along the Lake shore look for a "construct pyre spot". Build it and then a lvl 166 spirit will attack you. Kill it and then you will be done.

If you are a lower level you can get the bones by searching corpses on the floor.

When fighting the spirit protect from melee is advised.

Alternative: You can used chewed bones which are a rare drop which are dropped by Mith Dragons but not by green dragons. You do the same exact thing but, you don't have to fight the level 166 spirit.

Hastas:

Talk to Otto about barbarian spears. He will tell you to get a metal bar and log of the same level, and use them with the anvil behind his house. Make sure you take a hammer with you. You will then make a spear from using the bar on the anvil. Now, speak to Otto again and then ask about one-handed spears A.K.A. Hastas.

You must complete Tai Bwo Wanni Trio quest for Otto to teach you about Hastas. To make the Hasta grab the same items as you used for the spear. Use your bar on the anvil behind OttoÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s house and select the Hasta you want to make.

Here is a chart on Hastas.

Quickest way to Access the Ancient Cavern

Totalpwnage told me that you can get into the cavern with only doing the firemaking part of Otto's Tasks.

I just tried yesterday, and I only needed to do the firemaking thing to go down in the whirlpool. Just do the firemaking, and talk to the guy about the next part in firemaking. After that, it will allow you to go down into the whirlpool if you finish off the conversation.

1. Talk to Otto

2. Ask about Firemaking

3. Make your fire without a tinderbox

4. Talk to Otto again and talk to him about the next part in Firemaking

Requirements For Mith Dragons

  •
[*:1medrvtd]75+ Mage. Preferably 80 or above if you are using god spells + charge

    [*:1medrvtd]55 Slayer (optional)

[*:1medrvtd]70+ Defense (for Ahrim armor. Also optional)

    [*:1medrvtd]50+ Prayer

[*:1medrvtd]70+ HP ( you can die easily if you make a mistake)

[*:1medrvtd]80+ in Attack, Strength, and Defense. ( Only if your meleeing)

    [*:1medrvtd]70+ Range

What to wear/Inventory/Fighting the Dragon

[hide=God spell/ Fire Wave/Slayer Dart]

Your best bet would be to use Claws of Guthix spell because it lowers defense. It will help you much more if you can use Charge here. When you jump in drink a dose of antifire potion, run over to Mith Dragons, flip on protect from range and cast away.

Ahrim is the best armor to use. It is better than 3rd age in attack AND defense bonuses. If you can not afford use Mystic.

f_3rdpack5m_f739b67.png

f_toragm_31c22c6.png

Basically.. put slayer dart on auto-cast and jump into the whirlpool. Before you walk up the stairs turn on mage protection prayer and drink a dose of antifire potion. Using Slayer Dart be prepared to splash A LOT.

You can use Verac instead of the Torag since you will get a better prayer bonus.[/hide]

[hide=Melee]

Using melee you will want a combination of mage and range defense. The best armor for this is Karil or Black Dragon Hide. When fighting these you will want to melee protect because thats the dragon's strongest attack. It helps to pot-up before jumping into the whirlpool so you aren't drinking your potions while the dragon is attacking you.

f_3rdpack2m_99b1ba7.png

f_3rdpack3m_81e5403.png[/hide]

[hide=Range]

You will want 500+ Diamond, Ruby, or Onyx Bolts ( If you can afford Onyx). Make sure your bolts are enchanted. Mith Dragons are immune to poison so emerald bolts poison won't work.

Zamorak Mitre would be a good alternative because of a good prayer and magic bonus.

f_3rdpacm_9779e66.png

f_3rdpack4m_5c7a312.png

When fighting you will want to use either protect from range or mage. Using range pots will be effective.[/hide]

[hide=Pure Range]

Helm: Zammy Mitre

Amulet: Amulet of Fury

Cape: Saradomin Mage Arena Cape

Arrows: Ruby Bolts (e)

Weapon: Rune Crossbow

Body: Guthix Robe Top

Shield: Anti-dragon shield (Did I even need to say that?)

Legs: Black D'hide chaps

Gloves: Black D'hide Vambs

Boots: Ghostly Boots

Ring: Ring of Wealth or Ring of Life

Diamond Bolts (e)

1 Antifire Potion

1 Range Potion

3 Prayer Potions

22 Sharks

50 Airs

20 Laws

As a pure, I was able to kill 2-3 dragons a trip. I used ruby bolts until it was down to about half hp, and then I switched to diamond. If I was low on sharks, about 4 sharks left, I'd just switch to diamond.

From what Totalpwnage told me you can kill 2-3 a trip

I have not tried this method yet so if you try it and have good results please tell me.[/hide]

Getting there

Before you leave the bank make sure you have everything and especially make sure you have your anti-dragon shield equipped

f_Map2m_15ceaf2.png

After you jump into the Whirlpool follow this map.

Weapon: Rune dart(p)(14), Adamant dart(p)(20), Rune battleaxe, Rune spear, Rune javelin(8), Rune mace, Rune knife(8), Rune 2h sword

Armour: Rune med helm, Rune full helm, Dragon med helm, Dragon full helm

Conclusion

Well I hoped you liked my guide. I will add more strategies to kill these beasts. If you think something needs to be corrected just tell me and I will fix it.

Notes

  •
[*:1medrvtd]Mithril Dragons are immune to poison.

[*:1medrvtd]Using Verac will not work because you will be hit by dragonbreath.

[*:1medrvtd]Always use a Ring of Life. You never know when you will lag. I've already been saved before by this.

[*:1medrvtd]If you are ranging or maging stand about 3-4 steps back from the dragon so you will avoid being hit by his melee attack.

Yes and no. If your in the safespot they won't come up to you and melee. On the downside they can range and mage you. So if using torag you just need protect from mage. Your range bonus will be over 300.

ok. using the safespot closest to ladder you can use full ahrims or whatever you want. standing right in the middle of the safespot the dragon ignores you and just walks around. so in that case you can use whatever and basically stay there as long as you have runes

mystics + firewave + range pray works a lot better than that verac set. With mystics I could do easily a lot more than in veracs: in veracs I was barely able to kill 1.

I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.

why would you use firewave with range prayer? if your in the safespot nearest the door and stand in the middle you won't get damaged.

Are you saying that in those 2 safespots, there is 100% no way to get damaged by mithril dragons?
